In the beam-like ship vibration analysis. three-dimensional correction factor(J-factor) can be calculated by considering the three-dimensional effect of the two-dimensional added mass. However, existing method is time-consuming with low accuracy in respect of global vibration analyses for vessels with large breadth. In this paper, to improve the demerit of the previous method, a new method of the beam-like ship vibration analysis is introduced In this method. the three-dimensional fluid added mass of surrounding water is calculated directly by solving the velocity potential problem using the Boundary Element Method (BEM). Then the three-dimensional added mass is evaluated as the lumped mass for each strip. Also, the beam-like ship vibration analysis for the structural beam model if performed with the lumped mass considered. It was verified that this new method is useful for the beam-like ship vibration analysis by comparing results obtained from both the existing method and the new method with experimental measurements for the open top container model.
This study is attempted to realize an improved computation performance by combining the MPI (Message Passing Interface) Technique, a standard model of the parallel programming in the distributed memory environment, with the DHM(Diffusion Hydrodynamic Model), a inundation analysis model. With parallelizing inundation model, it compared with the existing calculation method about the results of applications to complicate and required long computing time problems. In addition, it attempted to prove the capability to estimate inundation extent, depth and speed-up computing time due to the flooding in protected lowlands and to validate the applicability of the parallel model to the actual flooding analysis by simulating based on various inundation scenarios. To verify the model developed in this study, it was applied to a hypothetical two-dimensional protected land and a real flooding case, and then actually verified the applicability of this model. As a result of this application, this model shows that the improvement effectiveness of calculation time is better up to the maximum of about 41% to 48% in using multi cores than a single core based on the same accuracy. The flood analysis model using the parallel technique in this study can be used for calculating flooding water depth, flooding areas, propagation speed of flooding waves, etc. with a shorter runtime with applying multi cores, and is expected to be actually used for promptly predicting real time flood forecasting and for drawing flood risk maps etc.

This study performed 2-D(two-dimensional) hydrodynamic analysis using EFDC in the Nakdong River. For the simulation of the flood season and non-flood season, the measured data including water level, weir outflow and tributary inflow were used, and the accuracy and applicability of the model were verified by comparing the measured water level and computed one. In addition, statistical quantitative assessment of the model performance was performed by estimating PBIAS, RSR, and RMSE for the computed water level. Then, the average velocity for each section between weirs was calculated by applying constant discharge conditions, and it was compared and verified with the measured velocity by Hydrological Survey Center. In this study, a simple method for estimating the arrival time was proposed, and it is expected that it will be practically applicable in field practices such as flood forecasting and warning.
The three-dimensional eco-hydrodynamic model was applied to estimate the autochthonous COD caused by production of phytoplankton in Jinhae Bay. A residual current was simulated, using a hydrodynamic model, to have a sightly complicated pattern in the inner part of the bay, ranging from 0.001 to 5 cm/s. In the outer part of the bay, the simulated current flowed out to the south sea with a southward flow at a maximum of 25 cm/s. The results of the ecological model simulation of COD levels showed high concentrations, exceeding 4 mg/L, in the inner bay of Masan, an area of wastewater discharge, and lower levels, approaching less than 1 mg/L, closer to the outer part of the bay. The simulation results of Autochthonous COD by two methods using ecological modeling, showed high ratio over 70% of total COD. Therefore, it is more important to consider nutrients than organic matters in the region for control COD standard.
Large artificial dam reservoirs and associated downstream ecosystems are under increased pressure from long-term negative impacts of turbid flood runoff. Despite various emerging issues of reservoir turbidity flow, turbidity modeling studies have been rare due to lack of experimental data that can support scientific interpretation. Modeling suspended sediment (SS) dynamics, and therefore turbidity ($C_T$), requires provision of constitutive relationships ($SS-C_T$) and accounting for deposition of different SS size fractions/types distribution in order to display this complicated dynamic behavior. This study explored the performance of a coupled two-dimensional (2D) hydrodynamic and particle dynamics model that simulates the fate and transport of a turbid density flow in a negatively buoyant density flow regime. Multiple groups of suspended sediment (SS), classified by the particle size and their site-specific $SS-C_T$ relationships, were used for the conversion between field measurements ($C_T$) and model state variables (SS). The 2D model showed, in overall, good performance in reproducing the reservoir thermal structure, flood propagation dynamics and the magnitude and distribution of turbidity in the stratified reservoir. Some significant errors were noticed in the transitional zone due to the inherent lateral averaging assumption of the 2D hydrodynamic model, and in the lacustrine zone possibly due to long-term decay of particulate organic matters induced during flood runoffs.
From the environmental aspects, primary productivity of phytoplankton plays the most improtant role in enhancement of marine culture oyster production. This study may be divided into two branches; one is estimation of maximum oyster meat production per unit facility(Carrying Capacity) under the present enviromental conditions in Kamak Bay, the other is improvement of carrying from increase of primary productivity by changing the environmental conditions that cause not ot form an unfavorable environment such as the formation of oxygen deficient water mass using the eco-hydrodynamic model. By simulation of three-dimensional hydrdynamic model and ecosystem model, the comparison between observed and computed data showed good agreement. The results of sensitivity analysis showed that phytoplankton maximum growth rate was the most important parameter for phytoplankton and dissolved oxygen. The estimation of mean primary productivity of Wonpo, Kamak, Pyongsa, and Kunnae culture grounds in Kamak Bay during culturing period were 3.73gC/$m^2$/d, 2.12gC/$m^2$/d, 1.98gC/$m^2$/d, and 1.26gC/$m^2$/d, respectively. Under condition not ot form the oxygen deficient water mass, four times increasing of pollutants loading as much as the present loading from river increased mean primary productivity of whole culture grounds to 4.02gC/$m^2$/d. Sediment N, P fluxes that allowed for 35% increasing from the present conditions increased mean primary productivity of whole culture grounds to 3.65gC/$m^2$/d. Finally, ten times increasing of boundary loadings from the present conditions increased mean primary productivity of whole culture grounds to 3.95gC/$m^2$/d. The maximum oyster meat production per year and that of unit facility in actual oyster culture grounds under the present conditions were 6,929ton and 0.93ton, respectively. This 0.93ton/unit facility is considered to be the carrying capacity in study area, and if the primary productivity is increased by changing the environmental conditions, oyster production can be increased.

In order to find out hydrodynamic changes due to huge complex constructions in the Keum River Estuary, two-dimensional finite element model is applied. Model results show that gate closing of the estuary dam yields tide amplifications at Kunsan Inner Port to 17 cm and 6 cm of M$_2$ and S$_2$, while 5 cm and 3 cm of amplification at Kunsan Outer Port. Tidal currents in the main channel due to stepwise flow-guide dikes construction have been simulated and show that dynamic equilibrium bottom shear stress is 0.4 N/m$\^$2/ on this Keum River Estuary. Sedimentation rates R have correlation with maximum bottom shear stress (equation omitted), R=-0.37-0.40 ln $\tau$.

To predict the oil spill dispersion phenomena in the ocean, the oil spill response model, which can be used for strategic purpose on the oil spill site, based on Lagrangian particle-tracking method was formulated and applied to the neighboring area with Pusan port where the oil spill incident occurred when the tanker ship No.1 Youil struck on a small rock near the Namhyungjeto on September 21, 1995. The real-time tidal currents to be required as input data of the oil spill model were obtained by the two-dimensional hydrodynamic model and the tide prediction model. Evaluation of tidal currents using observation data was successful. For wind data, other input data of oil spill model, observed data on the spot were used. To verify the oil spill model, the oil spill modelling results were compared with the field data obtained from the spill site. Compared the modelling results with the observation data, there exist some discrepancies but the general pattern of modelling results was similar to that of field observation. The modelling results on 7 days after spill occurred showed that the 40% of spilled oil is in floating, 36% in evaporated, 23% at shore, and 1% in out of boundary, respectively. According to the evaluation of weighting curves of effective components to the dispersion of oil, the winds make a 37% of contribution to the dispersion of oil, turbulent diffusion 39.5%, and tidal currents 23.5%, respectively. Provided the more accurate wind data are supported, more favorable results might be obtained.
Unlike land-based nuclear power plants, a marine or floating reactor is affected by external forces due to ocean conditions. These external forces can cause additional accelerations and affect each system and equipment of the marine reactor. Therefore, in designing a marine reactor and evaluating its performance and stability, a thermal hydraulic safety analysis code is necessary to consider the thermal hydrodynamic effects of ship motion. MARS, which is a reactor system analysis code, includes a dynamic motion model that can simulate the thermal-hydraulic phenomena under three-dimensional motion by calculating the body force term included in the momentum equation. In this study, it was verified that the dynamic motion model can simulate fluid motion with reasonable accuracy using conceptual problems. In addition, two modifications were made to the dynamic motion model; first, a user-supplied table to simulate a realistic ship motion was implemented, and second, the flow regime map determination algorithm was improved by calculating the volume inclination information at every time step if the dynamic motion model was activated. With these modifications, MARS could simulate the thermal-hydraulic phenomena under ocean motion more realistically.

This study presents the applicability of two-dimensional (2D) flood inundation model by applying to real irrigation reservoir failure with limited available data. The study area is Sandae Reservoir placed in Gyeongju and downstream area of it and the reservoir was failured by piping in 2013. The breach hydrograph was estimated from one-dimensional (1D) hydrodynamic model and the discharge was employed for upstream boundary of 2D flood inundation model. Topography of study area was generated by integrating digital contour map and satellite data, and Cartesian grids with 3m resolution to consider geometry of building, road and public stadium were used for 2D flood inundation analysis. The model validation was carried out by comparing predictions with field survey data including reservoir breach outflow, flood extent, flood height and arrival time, and identifying rational ranges with allowed error. In addition, the applicability of 2D model is examined using different simulation conditions involving grid size, building and roughness coefficient. This study is expected to contributed to analysis of irrigation reservoirs were at risk of a failure and setting up Emergency Action Plan (EAP) against irrigation reservoir failure.
