This study analyzed the output precision of 3D printing methods. The inner impeller of the centrifugal compressor was printed in as a sheet with 100% packing density using two methods: field deposition modelling and stereolithography. Dimensional differences between the initial CAD and printed models were evaluated using a 3D scanner. To investigate the dimensional characteristics of the 3D printed impeller, 3D dimension analysis and point dimension analysis were performed. The point dimension analysis was divided into 3D and 2D for comparative analysis.
This paper is considered with the problem of embedding complete binary trees into 3-dimensional meshes using dimension-ordered routing with primary concern of minimizing link congestion. The authors showed that a complete binary tree with $2^P-1$ nodes can be embedded into a 3-dimensional mesh with optimum size, $2^P$ nodes, if the link congestion is two[14], (More precisely, the link congestion of each dimension is two, two, and one if the dimension-ordered routing is used, and two, one, and one if the dimension-ordered routing is not imposed.) In this paper, we present a scheme to find an embedding of a complete binary tree into a 3-dimensional mesh of size no larger than 1.27 times the optimum with link congestion one while using dimension-ordered routing.
Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) has been successfully applied for dimension reduction in face recognition. However, LDA requires the transformation of a face image to a one-dimensional vector and this process can cause the correlation information among neighboring pixels to be disregarded. On the other hand, 2D-LDA uses 2D images directly without a transformation process and it has been shown to be superior to the traditional LDA. Nevertheless, there are some problems in 2D-LDA. First, it is difficult to determine the optimal number of feature vectors in a reduced dimensional space. Second, the size of rectangular windows used in 2D-LDA makes strong impacts on classification accuracies but there is no reliable way to determine an optimal window size. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to overcome those problems in 2D-LDA. We adopt an ensemble approach which combines several classifiers obtained by utilizing various window sizes. And a practical method to determine the number of feature vectors is also presented. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can overcome the difficulties with choosing an optimal window size and the number of feature vectors.

The two-dimensional (2D) Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) is used widely in image and video processing systems. The perception of human visualization permits us to design approximate rather than exact DCT. In this paper, we propose a digital implementation of 16-point approximate 2D DCT architecture based on one-dimensional (1D) DCT and Modified Gate Diffusion Input (MGDI) technique. The 8-point 1D Approximate DCT architecture requires only 12 additions for realization in digital VLSI. Additions can be performed using the proposed 8 transistor (8T) MGDI Full Adder which reduces 2 transistors than the existing 10 transistor (10T) MGDI Full Adder. The Approximate MGDI 2D DCT using 8T MGDI Full adders is simulated in Tanner SPICE for $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process technology at 100MHZ.The simulation result shows that 13.9% of area and 15.08 % of power is reduced in the 8-point approximate 2D DCT, 10.63 % of area and 15.48% of power is reduced in case of 16-point approximate 2D DCT using 8 Transistor MGDI Full Adder than 10 Transistor MGDI Full Adder. The proposed architecture enhances results in terms of hardware complexity, regularity and modularity with a little compromise in accuracy.

This study investigated how spatial dimension information and dimensional consistency between learning and testing phase would influence the target search performance. The participants learned spatial layouts of Lego blocks shown in either two- (2D) or three-dimension (3D) and were tested with the rotated stimuli ($0^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, $180^{\circ}$, or $270^{\circ}$ from the initial view) in consistent or inconsistent dimension. Significantly better performance was observed when initial learning display appeared in 2D than in 3D. Particularly, the participants showed difficulties in flexible usage of spatial information presented in 3D especially if the dimensional information in the testing phase also was 3D and required mental rotation. The present study indicates that spatial map presented in 2D may be more useful than 3D in driving situations in which acquired spatial information from navigating device, such as GPS, and location of driver continuously changes.

In this paper, a self-organization framework for swarm systems in three dimensions is presented. The framework uses artificial potential functions(APFs) to direct the robots toward the goal as well as to keep them in a swarm system. This research extends conventional APFs used for self-organizations in two dimension environment to three dimensions. In three dimension environment, the ground potential for the boundary surfaces that commonly appear in three dimension environments is proposed. Accordingly, the comparison between the paths without and with the ground potentials shows the necessity and effect of ground potentials. Extensive simulations are given to show the effectiveness of the extended potentials and various properties in three dimension environments.
A simple and versatile method of fabricating color patterns in two-dimension (2D) and three-dimension (3D) was developed using the selective-wettability approach. Red, green, and blue color elements are sequentially formed on a single substrate in a pattern-by-pattern and/or pattern-on-pattern fashion, through a simple coating process. Either 2D or 3D structures in an array format are produced by controlling the thickness of the hydrophobic layer (HL) coating a substrate within the framework of wetting transition. Moreover, it was demonstrated that the stacked geometry of two successive patterns can be easily tailored for various types of color arrays, with the pattern fidelity of a few tens of nanometers in terms of only a parameter of the HL thickness.
We have estimated the fractal dimension of the molecular clouds in the Antigalactic Center based on the $^{12}CO$ (J = 1- 0) and $^{13}CO$ (J = 1- 0) database obtained using the 14m telescope at Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory. Using a developed code within IRAF, we were able to identify slice-clouds, and determined the dispersions of two spatial coordinates as well as perimeters and areas. The fractal dimension of the target region was estimated to be D = 1.34 for low resolution $^{12}CO$ (J = 1 - 0) database, and D = 1.4 for higher resolution $^{12}CO$ (J = 1 - 0) and $^{13}CO$ (J = 1 - 0) database, where $P {\propto} A^{D/2}$. The sampling rate (spatial resolution) of observed data must be an important parameter when estimating fractal dimension. Our database with higher resolution of 1 arcminute, which is corresponding to 0.2 pc at a distance of 1.1 kpc, gives us the same estimate of fractal dimension to that of local dark clouds. Fractal dimension is apparently invariant when varying the threshold temperatures applied to cloud identification. According to the dispersion pattern of longitudes and latitudes of identified slice-clouds, there is no preference of elongation direction.

In this paper, various of pilot-assisted channel estimation techniques for 3GPP LTE downlink are tested under multipath Rayleigh fading channel. At first, the conventional channel estimation techniques are applied with linear zero-forcing (ZF) equalizer, such as one dimensional least square (1-D LS) linear interpolation, two dimensional (2-D) wiener filter, the time and frequency dimension separate wiener filter and maximum likelihood estimator (MLE). Considering the practical implementation, we proposed two channel estimation techniques by combining time-dimension wiener filter and MLE in two manners, which showed a good tradeoff between system performance and complexity when comparing with conventional techniques. The nonlinear decision feedback equalizer (DFE) which can show a better performance than linear ZF equalizer is also implemented for mitigating inter-carrier interference (ICI) in our system. The complexity of these algorithms are calculated in terms of the number of complex multiplications (CMs) and the performances are evaluated by showing the bit error rate (BER).

Moire topography method isa well-known non-contacting 3-D measurement method as afast non-contact test for three-dimension shape measuring method. Recently, it's important to study the automatic three-dimension measurement by moire topography because it is frequently applied to the reverse engineering , the medical , the entertainment fields. Three-dimension measurement using projection of moire topography is very attractive because of its high measuring speed and high sensitivity. In this paper, the classical moire method is computerized-so called digital moire when a virtual grating pattern is projected on a surface, the captured image by the CCD camera has three-dimension information of the objects. The moire image can be obtained through a simple image processing and a reference grating pattern. and it provides similar results without physical grating pattern. digital projection moire topography turn out to be very effective for the three-dimension measurement of objects. Using different N-bucket algorithm method of digital projection moire topography is tested to measuring object with the 2-ambiguity problem. Experimental results prove that the proposed scheme is capable of finding measurement errors that decreased more by using the four-three step algorithm method instead of the same step in the phase shifting of different pitch.
