Series Compensated Step-down AC Voltage Regulator using AC Chopper with Transformer

  • This paper describes a step-down AC voltage regulator using an AC chopper and auxiliary transformer, which is a series connected to the main input. The detail design of the AC regulator, logic and PWM pattern of the AC chopper is described and the three-phase AC regulator using two single­phase AC choppers with a three transformer configuration is proposed for three-phase application. The proposed three-phase system has the advantages of lower system cost due to reduced switch number and gate driver circuit as well as advantages of decreased size and weight because it uses a series compensated scheme. The proposed AC regulator has many benefits such as fast voltage control, high efficiency and simple control logic. Experimental results indicate that it can be used as a step-down AC voltage regulator for power saving purposes very efficiently.

  • The conventional high frequency phase-shifted full bridge dc/dc converter has a disadvantage that a circulating current flows through transformer and switching devices during the freewheeling interval. Due to this circulating current, RMS current stress, conduction losses of transformer and switching devices are increased. To alleviate this problem, this paper provides a circulating current free type high frequency soft switching phase-shifted full bridge (FB) dc/dc converter with energy recovery snubber (ERS) attached at the secondary side of transformer. The energy recovery snubber (ERS) adopted in this study is consisted of three fast recovery diode(Ds1, DS2, Ds3), two resonant capacitor (Cs1, Cs2)

  • This paper is purpose to understand the dissipation factor properties of the oil-filled large transformer according to the oil filtering. In order to know the insulation characteristic change by insulating oil filtering, we carried out the insulation diagnostic test for the same transformer before oil filtering and after. The insulation diagnosis tests are consist of the megger, the polarization index, the AC current test, the dissipation factor test and the partial discharge test, Especially we took notice of dissipation factor change, we analyzed and made a comparison of the two cases test result.

  • The residual flux(${\psi}_r$) in transformer's iron cores cause the distortion of short-circuit current occasionally. And some considerable distortion effect on the validation of test results. To prevent this situation, there needs some suitable control of residual flux through the pretest. This paper deals with the how to control the residual flux in pretest and the comparison between the two test results which were obtained by different test method.

  • This paper describes the design and analysis of an integrated transformer magnetic core which comprises of two different power cores with PFC inductor and LLC resonant transformer magnetic cores. The equivalent magnetic circuit modeling approach is employed to analyze the variations in coupling coefficient and inductance in terms of air gaps under the operations of the respective power core. Simulation and experimental studies are performed with a fabricated prototype integrated core and their results are discussed.

  • This paper describes the test results of a single phase 3kVA high temperature superconducting power transformer. The tapes are made with Bi-2223 and have silver alloy as the matrix. Four double pancake windings are used. Among them two double pancake windings are connected in series for high voltage winding and the others are connected in parallel for low voltage winding. The rated voltage and current of primary winding and secondary winding are 220/110V. 13.7/27.3A. Fundamental characteristics are obtained through short circuit and no load test. The over load capability and characteristics are investigated.

  • A novel multi-section power divider configuration is proposed to obtain wide-band frequency performance up to microwave frequency region. Design procedures for the proposed microwave broadband power divider are composed of a planar multi-section three-ports hybrid and a waveguide transformer design procedures. The multi-section power divider is based on design theory of the optimum quarter-wave transformer. Furthermore, in order to obtain the broadband isolation performance between the two adjacent output ports, the odd mode equivalent circuit should be matched by using the lossy element such as resistor. The derived design formula for calculating these odd mode matching elements is based on the singly terminated filter design theory. The waveguide transformer section is designed to suppress the propagation of the higher order modes such as waveguide modes due to employing the metallic electric wall. Simulation and experiment show excellent performance of multi section power divider.

  • We have developed two absolute evaluation technology of inductor using current transformer (CT) comparator. One is the method that the reactance of inductor is obtained by analysing the equivalent circuit of CT with inductor connected to series at secondary terminal of CT. The other is the method that the reactance of inductor is obtained by comparing phase displacement of current flowing on inductor by using CT comparator. These technologies have the advantage to apply up to rated current and voltage of inductor. The method was applied to inductors under test in the range of $100 {\mu}H{\sim}1\;H$. The inductance of the inductor under test obtained in this study are consistent with those measured by LCR meter using the same inductor within an expanded uncertainty (k = 2) in the overall range of inductance.

  • In this paper two kinds of techniques were compared for localization of PD(partial discharge) in power transformer and more useful method was suggested. Both of them, the time of arrival and the energy content method, were tested in 154kV single phase experimental transformer using UHF signal measurement. The former was using the difference of arrival time of recorded signals from four UHF sensors, the latter was based on the energy content in frequency spectra of signals detected at all sensors.

Input-Series Multiple-Output Auxiliary Power Supply Scheme Based on Transformer-Integration for High-Input-Voltage Applications

  • In this paper, an input-series auxiliary power supply scheme is proposed, which is suitable for high input voltage and multiple-output applications. The power supply scheme is based on a two-transistor forward topology, all of the series modules have a common duty ratio, all the switches are turned on and off simultaneously, and the whole circuit has a single power transformer. It does not require an additional controller but still achieves efficient input voltage sharing (IVS) for each series module through its inherent transformer-integration strategy. The IVS process of this power supply scheme is analyzed in detail and the design considerations for the related parameters are given. Finally, a 100W multiple-output auxiliary power supply prototype is built, and the experimental results verify the feasibility of the proposed scheme and the validity of the theoretical analysis.
