  • In this paper, a compact S type resonator is presented, where the proposed resonator is surface micromachined over transmission lines or other resonators, in order to obtain a wide range of possible electromagnetic couplings. The structure has been applied in two compact, bandstop and bandpass filters with moderate fractional bandwidths (FBW) of 20% and 25% respectively. The bandstop filter presented, was designed by the combination of two design methods in order to obtain the proposed fractional bandwidth, where traditionally, coupled resonator bandstop filters have been used for narrow stopbands. The bandpass filter illustrates the use of the proposed suspended resonator structure to obtain a wide range of electric type coupling coefficients, and external quality factors for the filter. This paper describes the design methodology, concepts and fabrication method proposed for the design of these filters.

  • Indigo crop, Persicaria tinctoria H. Gross is an annual plant containing natural colorant, the blue dye indigo, and local cultivars had been cultivated to produce natural indigo for textile dyeing in Korea since ancient times. Naju No. 2 is a new mass-selected line from the mother population, Naju Local cultivar. In this study, two breeding lines of Naju Local and Naju No. 2, have been cultivated in four different locations, the South regions of Korea, to compare plant growth and yield characteristics between two lines. Naju No. 2 was higher in plant height, and Naju Local has more 1st branches. Naju No. 2 has larger leaf area and higher width/length ratio of leaf, showing the round leaf type as morphological stable character without regional differences. Though there was considerable regional variation in fresh and dry top weight of harvested plant, the significant difference of plant weight between two lines were not shown. The ratio of leaf to total shoot of dry weight of Naju No. 2 was higher than one of Naju Local, indicating that Naju No. 2 has better yielding of colorant which is synthesized mostly in leaf. Naju No. 2 contained more Niram (crude indigo extract) and indigo, and showed much blueness at dyeing of silk using fresh leaves than Naju Local. We concluded that a new line, Naju No. 2 could be a superior cultivar due to having higher leaf yield and better quality of natural colorant than Naju local cultivar.

  • Hyoscyamine and scopolamine are two most common tropane alkaloids found in the Solanaceae. The pEB expression vector carrying Nspmt gene was transformed to Agrobacterium rhizogenes. The growth of transgenic hairy roots were approximately to 80% of the wild type root. Transgenic hairy roots are less developed on only their branch roots than those of the wild type root. The extracts from Nspmt transgenic hairy root lines, 3 and 5 contained between 3.52 and 4.23 mg/g dry weight as hyoscyamine and did between 5.23 to 6.40 mg/g dry weight as scopolamine. These results showed that the overexpression of the pmt gene enhanced tropane alkaloids production of S. parviflora transformed roots and this improvement affected both hyoscyamine and scopolamine production.

  • This study was conducted to investigate how to enhance resistance to oxidative stress in petunia progeny obtained by a crossing between transgenic plants, MnSOD (SOD2) ($T_4$) and NDPK2 ($T_2$), to develop transgenic petunia much more resistant to environmental stress. At the treatment of MV 200 ${\mu}M$, the progeny was significantly less damaged than its parental plants (SOD2- or NDPK2-transgenic lines) as well as wild type plants, implying its resistance to oxidative stress was enhanced compare to that of SOD2- or NDPK2- transgenic plants. In an expression of 11 quantitative traits, the progeny remained similar to control plants, although it infrequently displayed slightly longer or wider than either parental or wild type plants. In the expression of 6 qualitative traits, there was no significant difference between parental or non-transgenic control plants.

  • This paper presents a calculation method of an induced voltage on telecommunication lines using primitive impedance matrix. The advantages of the method are using actual neutral current value and not using screening factor for considering the overhead ground wire and neutral wire. To verify the effectiveness and accuracy of the method, case studies are performed with EMTP (Electro-Magnatic Transient Program).

  • It is important to classily fault types and discriminate fault section by any detecting technique for combined transmission lines. This paper proposes the technique to classify the fault types and fault section using neuro-fuzzy systems. Neuro-fuzzy systems are composed of two parts to perform different works. First, neuro-fuzzy system for fault type classification is performed with approximation coefficient of currents obtained by wavelet transform. Another neuro-fuzzy system discriminates the fault section between overhead and underground with detail coefficients of voltage and current. In this paper, neuro-fuzzy system shows the excellent results for classification of fault types and discrimination of fault section.

  • This paper investigates the ventilation characteristics in a two-dimensional underground network junction composed of four main lines interconnected by eight ramps. Simple one-dimensional models cannot be applied to network junctions since there are interferences of traffic piston effects in the main lines and at the ramps. A numerical algorithm was developed to analyze the pressure and airflow distributions iteratively. The Darcy-Weisbach equation was used to calculate the piston effects by traffic flows, and a Hardy Cross iteration was conducted for network analysis at the interconnected junction. The results show interesting ventilation characteristics and CO concentration distributions depending on system parameters such as vehicle speed, tunnel diameter, and other junction configurations.

  • A rose cultivar "Haedoji" developed at the Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research and Extention Services (JARES) is a standard type with deep Red flower. From 2000, two cultivars 'Vital' and 'Cardinal' were examined for horticultural characteristics and were included in cross-combination in 2003. Cultivar 'Vital', a vigorous standard type, first preference with red flower, was used as a mother plant and cultivar 'Cardinal', a red flower standard type with light color, was used as a pollen-donor plant. seventeen six breeding lines were selected in 2004 based on flower shape, flower color and abundance of petal numbers on the first selection. two breeding lines were selected in 2004 based on powderly mildew and vigor on the second selection. For three years, from 2005 till 2007, one breeding lines were selected and examined for their productivity, and then cultivar "Haedoji" was developed because of distinctive characters such as light red color flower, upright stem, long vase-life and Resistance to the Powderly Mildew. A standard type with intermediate sized flower, cultivar "Haedoji" shows in average 9.2 cm flower diameter, 62.0 cm flower stem length, and 9.5 days vase-life. The average productivity for three years was $167.3stems{\cdot}m^{-2}$ per year and increased 2% compare to cultivar 'Tiamo' with $163.9stems{\cdot}m^{-2}$ per year.

  • Marine sponges are known to produce a number of cytotoxic secondary metabolites. In the course of searching for cytotoxic metabolites from marine organisms, we have evaluated cytotoxic activities of six marine secondary metabolites isolated from various sponges. The cytotoxic compounds 1-6 were isolated by the application of various chromatographic methods, including column chromatography and HPLC. The molecular structures were mostly determined using mass spectrometry (MS) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy. Furanosestererpenes (compounds 1-3) from Psammocinia sp., cyclitol derivatives (compounds 4 and 5) from Sarcotragus sp., and bromotyrosine-type compound (6) from an association of two sponges Jaspis wondoensis and Poecillastra wondoensis were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against three cancer cell lines; Hep G2, HeLa, and MCF-7. All tested compounds exhibited cyctoxicity at concentrations ranging from $5\;\mug/mL\;to\;25\;\mug/mL.$ Particularly, among the tested compounds, compound 6 showed the highest potency displaying at least $80\%$ of cytotoxicity at $5\;\mug/mL$ level against all three cancer cell lines.

  • Bioassay-guided fractionation of Crataegus pinnatifida (Rosaceae) gave two cytotoxic ursane-type triterpenes which were identified as uvaol (1) and ursolic acid (2) by physicochemical and spectroscopic methods. 3-Oxo-ursolic acid (3) was synthesized from ursolic acid (2) by Jones method. The cytotoxic activities of these compounds were tested against murine L1210 and human cancer cell lines (A549, SK-OV-3, SK-MEL-2, XF498, and HCT15) in vitro. Compounds 1 and 2 showed moderate cytotoxicities against L1210, whereas they showed weak activities against human cancer cell lines. However compound 3 exhibited potent cytotoxic activities both in murine and in human cancer cell lines.
