  • The guard-ring type 3-terminal parallel plate electrodes proposed by ASTM D 150-81 and IEC 250 have been widely used for measurement of dielectric constants of solid dielectrics. However the method using this electrodes causes many uncertainty associated with the measurement errors of the diameter of the guarded electrode. the gap between guarded and guard-ring electrode. the distance of two active electrodes(the thickness of specimen), the roughness and contamination of surface of electrode and specimen. close adherence grade of electrode and specimen. In this paper. a new electrode system of cross capacitance type based on Thompson-Lampard theorem is designed and is employed for the measurement of dielectric constant. The results of simulation of guard-ring electrode and cross capacitance electrode using FEM program show that distance measurement between two electrodes in guard-ring electrode produces large uncertainty. on the other hand this effect in cross capacitance electrode is negligible. Furthermore. the air gap effects in the cross capacitance electrode is 5.6 times less sensitive than that in guard-ring electrode by assuming air gap of $50{\mu}m$.

  • Grounding electrodes as discharge paths to the earth are normally used to ensure the safety of human body and facilities from the over-voltages in distribution power system, and each grounding mode has a prescribed ground resistance value respectively which is applied by the utilities. As the various electrodes for distribution power system are recently developing to improve the performance of them and resolve the problem of space restriction, it is necessary to measure and investigate the safety of human body of developed electrodes. Therefore, in this paper, we provide briefly a technical comparison of two standards, i.e. IEEE Std 80 and the IEC 479-1, and describe the configuration of safety measurement system which can measure the step voltage and the touch voltage of grounding electrodes based on IEEE Std 80.

  • Reference electrodes are generally implemented for the purpose of monitoring the cathodic protection potentials of buried or immersed metallic structures. In the market, many types of reference electrodes are available for this purpose, such as saturated calomel, silver/silver chloride and copper/copper sulfate. These electrodes contain a porous ceramic junction plate situated in the cylindrical body bottom to permit ionic flux between the internal electrolyte (of the reference electrode) and the external electrolyte. In this work, the copper/copper sulfate reference electrode was modified by replacing the porous ceramic junction plate for a metallic platinum wire. The main purpose of this modification was to avoid the ion copper transport from coming from the inner reference electrode solution into the surrounding electrolyte, and to mitigate the copper plating on the coupon surfaces. Lab tests were performed in order to compare the performance of the two mentioned reference electrodes. We verified that the experimental errors associated with the measurements conducted with developed reference electrode would be negligible, as the platinum surface area exposed to the surrounding electrolyte and/or to the reference electrolyte are maintained as small as possible.

  • Vertically-aligned $TiO_2$ nanotube electrodes have attracted considerable attention for applications in solar cells, catalysts, and sensors, because of their ideal structure for electron transport and electrolyte diffusion. Here, we prepare vertically-aligned $TiO_2$ nanotube electrodes using a two-step anodization process. The prepared $TiO_2$ nanotube electrodes exhibit uniform pore structures with an inner diameter of ~80-90 nm and wall thickness of ~20-25 nm. In addition, they exhibit an anatase crystal phase after a high-temperature annealing. The annealed $TiO_2$ nanotube electrodes are applied in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) as photoanodes. The fabricated DSSC exhibits conversion efficiencies of 3.46 and 2.15% with liquid- and gel-type electrolytes, respectively.

  • In this paper, new address electrode having separated dual electrodes is suggested to reduce addressing time in ac PDP. It had been found that both the formative and jitter width of the suggested electrode are improved by $10{\sim}20$ % compared with the conventional one on IMID 04'. So we experiment other several kinds of the separated electrodes, and the change in discharge characteristics is analyzed by using a two-dimensional fluid simulation. The key feature of the suggested structure is that the distribution of Xe and Ne ion is controllable during the address periods without significant increases in the capacitive load of the address electrodes.

  • Design and test results of a VRAG(Vacuum Rotary Arc Gap) switch were presented. To control the damage of electrodes caused by the vacuum arc, Lorentz's force by the radial magnetic field between spiral electrodes was used to rotate the vacuum uc. VRAG switch electrodes were made of the material of CuCr and OFHC. Gap distance between two spiral type electrodes for the rotation of the arc discharge is 8, 10, 12mm. In the cathode, one trigger electrode was inserted into each spiral wing. Normal operation of the VRAG switch was confirmed with 10.6[$mutextrm{s}$]of trigger delay and 2~3[$mutextrm{s}$] of the jitter time. The speed of the vacuum arc was measured to be 0.6 ~ 1[km/s] by a motion analyzer.

  • A modified driving waveform is proposed to improve the address discharge characteristics using wall charge on the common electrodes in plasma display panel. In the driving scheme of plasma display, after a reset period, the negative charge are accumulated on two front electrodes and positive wall charge are accumulated on the address electrode. As the address discharge during an address period is produced when the scan and address pulses are applied at the same time, negative charge on the scan electrodes and positive charge on the address electrodes are mainly used. On the other hand, as the voltage are only maintained without applying the waveform during an address period on the common electrodes, the wall charge is not used on the common electrodes. In this paper, the address discharge characteristics are investigated with changing pulse applying time and applied voltage amplitude on the common electrodes and consequently the producing time of an address discharge are shortened about 200 ns compared with the conventional driving waveform.

  • One of major errors in flow rate measurement for two-phase flow using an Electrical Capacitance Sensor (ECS) concerns sensor sensitivity under temperature raise. The thermal effect on electrical capacitance sensor (ECS) system for air-water two-phase flow monitoring include sensor sensitivity, capacitance measurements, capacitance change and node potential distribution is reported in this paper. The rules of 12-electrode sensor parameters such as capacitance, capacitance change, and change rate of capacitance and sensitivity map the basis of Air-water two-phase flow permittivity distribution and temperature raise are discussed by ANSYS and MATLAB, which are combined to simulate sensor characteristic. The cross-sectional void fraction as a function of temperature is determined from the scripting capabilities in ANSYS simulation. The results show that the temperature raise had a detrimental effect on the electrodes sensitivity and sensitive domain of electrodes. The FE results are in excellent agreement with an experimental result available in the literature, thus validating the accuracy and reliability of the proposed flow rate measurement system.

  • A three-electrode type reflective display (electronic paper) is designed to apply an independent electric field to each three electrodes of the cell including two electric-type of particles and electrically neutral color fluid, so single color realization is possible. In particular, the movement of particles and optical properties are decided by the electric field between two electrodes on the lower substrate. So, the effect of electric field by the distance between two electrodes on the lower substrate is studied with electrode spacing with $10{\mu}m$, $15{\mu}m$, $20{\mu}m$, and $25{\mu}m$. By our experimentation, the driving voltage induces more reliable movement of charged particles and the optical properties as compared with the threshold voltage. We ascertain the single color realization and non-inverted particle separation is possible. So the more desirable optical properties are observed in case of the short electrode like $10{\mu}m$.

  • An inhomogeneous hyperbolic electric field is established among two-dimensional quadrupole electrodes to which an ac voltage is applied. Conditions under which charged particles are focused into a narrow axis region of the plug laminar flow are discussed. The aerodynamic forces influence the behavior of the charged particles in the quadrupole electric field. We derived the dimensionless equations of motion of a charged particle in the alternating quadrupole electric field, and discussed particle trajectories and focusing performance in terms of two dimensionless parameters, which are functions of particle size, operating pressure, and the amplitude and frequency of applied AC voltage, with the results of numerical simulations and experiments.
