This study investigated the behavior of out-of-plane skewed moment connections that were designed as IMFs, as per the Korean standards. A total of 14 finite element models were constructed with the consideration of two types (single- and double-sided connections) and four levels of skew angle (0°, 10°, 20°, and 30°). The results indicated that the skewed connections considered in this study met the acceptance criteria for IMFs given by the codes. However, the load-carrying capacities of skewed connections were decreased as the skew angle increased. For the connection with a skew angle of 30°, the peak load was noted to be 13% less and the energy dissipation capacity could be 26% less than that of non-skewed connection. In addition, because of the skewed nature, the stress distribution in the skewed beam flange near the connection was asymmetric and the stresses were concentrated on the beam inner flange. Column twisting induced by the skewed configuration was very small and negligible in the beam and column combination considered in this study.

In the present study, we have developed a flapping wing using a smart material to mimic the nature's flyers, birds. The wing consists of composite frames, a flexible PVC film and a surface actuator, and the main wing motions are flapping, twisting and camber motions. To change the camber, a Macro-Fiber Composite(MFC) is used as the surface actuator, and it's structural response is analyzed by the use of piezoelectric-thermal analogy. To measure the lift and thrust simultaneously, a test stand consisting of two load cells is manufactured. Some aerodynamic tests are performed for the wing in a subsonic wind tunnel to evaluate the dynamic characteristics. Experimental results show that the main lift is mostly affected by the forward velocity and the pitch angle, but the thrust is mostly affected by the flapping frequency. The effect of the camber generated by the MFC actuator can produce the sufficient lift increment of up to 24.4% in static condition and 20.8% in dynamic condition.

In this paper, warpage magnitude and shape of printed-circuit board in case that properties of core and thickness of solder resist are varied are investigated. The cause of warpage is coefficient of thermal expansion differences of stacked materials. Therefore, we need small difference of coefficient of thermal expansion that laminated material, and need to decrease asymmetric of top side and bottom side in structure shape. Also, we can control occurrence of warpage heightening hardness of core in laminated material. Composite material that make core are exploited in connection with the structural bending twisting coupling resulting from directional properties of fiber reinforced composite materials and from ply stacking sequence. If we use such characteristic, we can control warpage with change of material properties. In this paper, warpage of two layer stacked chip scale package is investigated, and evaluate improvement result using an experiment and finite element method tool.
This paper presents a new, effective torsional constant for thin-waled open beams under concentrated and uniformly distributed torques. The proposed constant can be used directly, instead of the St. Venant torsional constant, for any generic comemrcial finite-element program, without modifying the algorithm. The derived torsional constant accounts for both the pure torsion and the warping torsion, and is equal to the St. Venant torsion constant times a correction factor. It is also shown, in the case of the St. Venant torsion, that the derived constant is identical to the torsional constant. The derived effective torsional constant is different from the one given by Elhelbawey et al. The pure torsional shear stress, the warping shear stress, and the warping normal stress were also determine d, using the maximum twisting angle. The accuracy of the proposed torsional constant was validated by comparing the numerical results with the closed-form solutions or other numerical results available in the literature.

Due to single symmetry of cross section, T-shaped members are likely to buckle in a flexural-torsional mode when they are subjected to axial compression. Therefore, the flexural-torsional buckling can be regarded as a governing mode of global buckling. An experimental program has been carried out to investigate the flexural-torsional buckling behavior of pultruded T-shaped members. Two types of pultruded members were tested in the experiment, and they were made of either E-glass/vinylester or E-glass/polyester. Lay-up and thickness of reinforcing layers, volume fractions of each constituents in layers, mechanical properties were experimentally determined. Two sets of knife edge fixure were used to simulate simple support condition for flexure and twisting, and the lateral displacements and the angle of twist were measured using three potentiometers. Every specimen buckled in a flexural-torsional mode, and most of the specimens showed post-buckling strength.
The purpose of this study is to prove the kinematical characteristics of Deff motion, the high bar performance, in terms of flying phases so that we can provide basic sources for improving gymnastic performance. To do this, we selected and analyzed the performance of two athletes who did Deff motion in the high bar competition of male artistic gymnastic in the 22nd Universiade 2003 Daegu. We drew the conclusions from the kinematical factors that were came out through analyzing three-dimensional cinematography of the athletes' movements, by using a high speed video camera. To make a successful performance, a performer releases the bar at a height of a high bar vertically and at a height of 82cm horizontally, and the flying performance should be made without moving forward, as maintaining the proper balance, in order to rise over 118cm high during the flying phase. When the performer is releasing the bar, an increase of the vertical speed in the center of the body and extension of a knee joint and a hip joint contribute to increasing a flying height. And when the moving body is twisted, leaning to left side is caused by the winding movement of a knee joint, which causes an unstable bar grasp. To grasp the bar stably, just before releasing the performer should gain propulsive force from twisting rotation through increasing the speed of shoulder rotation. And before the peak point, the performer should make sure of a body rotation distance over $164^{\circ}$ so that he or she can do an aerial rotary performance smoothly. When grasping the high bar, the center of the body should be above the bar and the angle of shoulder rotation should be maintained close to $540^{\circ}$ simultaneously. he high point performance(S1) has more speed on an ascending phase and less speed on a descending phase than the low point performance (S2). At the peak point, both the rotation angle of the body and that of the shoulder in high point performance are big as well. In conclusion, it is shown that a performer can make a jump toward the high bar easily with the body straight because the performer can hold the upper part of the body erect early in a descending phase.

Vacuum circuit breaker(VCB) is now emerging as an alternative of gas circuit breaker(GCB) which uses SF6 gas as insulating material whose dielectric strength is outstanding. But we have to reduce SF6 gas because SF6 gas is one of greenhouse gas and efforts to reduce greenhouse gas are now trend of the world. Therefore, we can say VCB is the optimal alternative of GCB because vacuum is environmentally friendly. The vacuum interrupter is the core part of VCB to interrupt arcing current. There are mainly two methods to extinguish arc. One is radial magnetic field (RMF) method and the other is axial magnetic field (AMF) method. We deals with RMF method in this paper. Compared with AMP, RMF arc quenching method has different principle to extinguish arc. In case of RMF method, pinch effect is much larger than AMF method. Because of pinch effect RMF type contact electrodes have the single large spot which is severly damaged and melted while AMF type contact electrodes have small and multiple spots which are slightly damaged and melted. To prevent contact electrode being damaged and melted from high temperature-arc, RMF method uses Lorentz force to move arc. In this paper we calculated and compared the arc driving force of two cases and we analyzed the force acting on each part of arc by means of commercial finite element method software Maxwell 3D. They have 3petals and we considered two cases. One is the case when fixed(upper) and movable(lower) contacts are in mirror arrangement (Case 1). The other is the case when one of two contacts (movable contact) is revolved at maximum angle as possible as it can be (Case 2). And at each case above, we analyzed arc driving force at two positions, position 1 is the closest to the center of contact and position 2 is near the edge of petal on fixed contact. As a result we could find that Case 2 generated stronger arc driving force than Case 1 at position 1. But at position 2 Case 1 generated stronger arc driving force than Case 2. This simulation method can contribute to optimizing spiral-type electrode designs in a view of arc driving force.
The purpose of this study is to closely examine kinematic characteristics by jump phase of Li Xiaopeng motion in horse vaulting and provide the training data. In doing so, as a result of analyzing kinematic variables through 3-dimensional cinematographic using the high-speed video camera to Li Xiaopeng motion first performed at the men's vault competition at the 14th Busan Asian Games, the following conclusion was obtained. 1. It was indicated that at the post-flight, the increase of flight time and height and twisting rotational velocity has a decisive effect on the increase of twist displacement. And Li Xiaopeng motion showed longer flight time and higher flight height than Ropez motion with the same twist displacement of entire movement. Also the rotational displacement of the trunk at peak of COG was much short of $360^{\circ}$(one rotation) but twist displacement showed $606^{\circ}$. Likewise, Li Xiaopeng motion was indicated to concentrate on twist movement in the early flight. 2. It was indicated that at the landing, Li Xiaopeng motion gets the hip to move back, the trunk to stand up and the horizontal velocity of COG to slow down. This is thought to be the performance of sufficient landing, resulting from large security of rotational displacement of airborne and twist displacement. 3. It was indicated that at the board contact, Li Xiaopeng motion made a rapid rotation uprighting the trunk to recover slowing velocity caused by jumping with the horse in the back, and has already twisted the trunk nearly close to $40^{\circ}$ at board contact. Under the premise that elasticity is generated without the change of the feet contacting the board, it will give an aid to the rotation and twist of pre-flight. Thus, in the round-oH phase, the tap of waist according to the fraction and extension of hip joint and arm push is thought to be very important. 4. It was indicated that at the pre-flight, Li Xiaopeng motion showed bigger movement than the techniques of precedented studies rushing to the horse, and overcomes the concern of relatively low power of jump through the rapid rotation of the trunk. Li Xiaopeng motion secured much twist distance, increased rotational distance with the trunk bent forward, resulting in the effect of rushing to the horse. 5. At horse contact, Li Xiaopeng motion makes a short-time contact, and maintains horse take-off angle close to vertical, contributing to the increase of post-flight time and height. This is thought to be resulted from rapid move toward movement direction along with the rotational velocity of trunk rapidly earned prior to horse contact, and little shave of rotation axis according to twist motion because of effective twist in the same direction.
This paper is the forth and fifth one of the study on balanced type oscillating mole drainer. In the light of the results from previous reports about the model tests, some design criteria were established and a prototype machine was set up for experimental purpose. Motion characteristics and functionof the each parts of the machine were checked and analyzed. After that, performance tests of the prototype machine were carried out in thefield. Obtained results are summarized as follows ; 1. Ten centimeter of the bullet diameter was determined so as to be able to attach it to the tractors with capacity of 30 PS to 40 PS. 2. To maintain the balance between the moments of the front shank and rear shank, the oscillating amplitude of the rear bullet was determined to be larger than that of the front bullet. At the same time , the oscillating direction of the rear bullet was designed with the inclines of ten to thirty degrees. 3. An octagonal dynamo transduced was developed for measuring the compressive force of the upper link is measuring the draft force of the machine. Acceptable linear relationship between forces and strain responses from O.D.T. was obtained. 4. Analysing the balancing mechanism of the acting part of the machine , it was found that the total draft force of the machine was equal to the difference between the sum of the draft force produced from the right and left side bending moments of the lower drawber and the compressive force on the upper link. 5. There are acceptable linear relationship between the strain and twisting moment by driving shaft, and between strain and shank moment. Above results enable us to carry out the field experiment with prototype machine. 6. When the test machine was used in the field, it was possible to reduce the oscillating acceleration by forty percent in average as compared it with the single bullet mole drainer. 7. When the test machine was used under the oscillating condition, the dratt torce was reduced by 27 percent to 59 percent as compared it with the test machine under non-oscillating condition, while the draft force was increased by 7 percent to 20 percent as compared it with the mole drainer having oscillating single bullet. The reasoning behind this fact was considered as the resistance force due to the rear shank and bullet. 8. As the amplitude and frequency of the bullet were increased, the torque was increased accordingly. This tendency could be varied with the various characteristics of the given soils. And the larger frequency and amplitute, the more increasing oscil\ulcornerlating power but decreasing draft brce were needed, and draft force was increased as the velocity was increased.9. When the amplitude of the rear bullet was designed to be larger than that of the front bullet, the minimum value of the moment was lowered and oscillating acceleration was reduced. And when the oscillating direction of the rear bullet was declined back\ulcornerwards, oscillating acceleration was increased along with the increasing angle of decli\ulcornernation. When the test machine was operated in high speed, the difference between maximum moments and minimum ones became narrow. This varying magnitude of moments appeared on the moment oscillogram seems to be correlated to the oscillating acceleration and draft force. 10. From the analysis of variance, it was found that those factors such as frequency, amplitude, and operating velocity significantly affected in the oscillating acceleration, the draft resistance, the torque, the moment, and the total power required. And interaction between frequency and amplitude affected in the oscillating acceleration. 11. Within the given situation of this study, the most preferable operating conditions of the test machine were 7 Hz in oscillating frequency, 0.54 m/sec in operating velocity, and 39.1 mm in oscillating amplitude of front and rear bullets. However, it is necessary to select the proper frequency and magnitude of oscillation depending on the soil properties of the field in which the mole drainer is practiced by use of a bal1nced type oscillating mole drainer. 12. It is recommended that a comparative study of the mole drainers would be performed in the near future using two separate balanced oscillating bullet with the one which is operated by oscillating the movable bullet in a single cylinder or other balanced type which may be single oscillating bullet with spring, damper or balancing weight, and that of thing. To expand the applicability of the balanced type oscillating mole drainer in practical use, it is suggested to develop a new mechanism which perform mole drain with vinyl pipe or filling material such as rice hull.
Despite that it is relatively difficult to compare the movements in eastern and western dancing, this study approached hand-foot coordination movements, which involve lifting both an arm and a leg to stand on one foot, from a figurative point of view. In ballet, arabesque, developpe, and attitude were recognized as the example hand-foot coordination movements, and in Korean Dance, Oesawi, Gyeopsawi, and Meongseokmari of Mask Dance were classified into the hand-foot coordination movements. The figurative characteristics of these dances were approached from the aspects of racial traits, philosophies of dancing, and forms of movements. The following summarizes the findings about hand-foot coordination movements of this study. First, in relation to human physiology, eastern and western races have different traits. The forms of dancing have developed differently according to the builds and figures of dancers. Ballet is an elegant form of dancing using long legs and arms and its arabesque, developpe, and attitude movements emphasize stretching the body for an elegant and beautiful presentation. On the other hand, Korea was an agricultural society and lived closer to the land. As its people developed petite figures, its dancing movements, especially the hand-foot coordination movements, involved 'twisting' and 'walking down and up.' Second, despite that the hand-foot coordination movements are identical for east and west, ballet aims at the heaven and Korean Dance aims at the land according to the differences in the views of nature. Although the principle of hand-foot coordination movements is about aiming at the land, western philosophies and aesthetics pursue the heaven. Third, in ballet, the focus of beauty is the presentation of beautiful movements. Therefore, the hand-foot coordination movements precisely control the position and angle of arms and legs for the perfect balance of the body. On the other hand, the hand-foot coordination movements of Korean Dance are mostly rooted from natural daily movements and movements that enhance the efficiency of labor. Therefore, it is considered beautiful techniques even if the body looks rather unbalanced.
