Plant Community Structure of Chuwang Valley in Chuwangsan National Park (주왕산국립공원 주왕계곡의 식물군집구조)

  • To investigate the forest structure of Chuwang valley of Chuwangsan National Park, thirty plots were set up and surveyed. Importance values, DBH class distribution, species diversity indices, DCA Ordination, CCA ordiantion and TWINSPAN classification were used for vegetational structure analysis. Pinus densiflora Quercus serata, Q. mongolica, Q. variabilis were appeared to be dominant species in thirty plots. According to the analysis of classification by TWINSPAN, the thirty plots divided four groups. Groups were Q. mongolica-P. densiflora-Carpinus laxiflora community(I), P. densiflora-Q. variabilis community(II), Q. serrata-Q. variabilis community(III), broad-leaved mixed community(IV) Species diversity(H') of investigated area was calculated 1.17~l.32. The successional trend was seemed to be from P. densiflora to Q. spp. in the canopy layer.

Vegetation structure of Mountain Ridge from Jeongryeongchi to Bokseongijae in the Baekdudaegan. (백두대간 정령치-복성이재 구간의 능선부 식생구조)

  • To investigate the vegetation structure of mountain ridge from Jeongryongchi to Bokseongiiae in Baetdudaegan, thirty few sites(size 500$m^2$) were set up and surveyed. By using TWINSPAN and DCA technique, the Plants community was divided into four groups, those are Pinus densiflora - P. rigida community, P. denisiflora community, P. densiflora -Larix leptolepis community, Quercus mongolica cummunity. P densiflora is turned out as a dominant woody species in the ridge area. Diversity index of the species in ridge area which is semi mountainous one, is lower than one of mountainous ridge area.

Vegetation Types and Diversity Patterns of Pinus densiflora Forests in South Korea (우리나라 소나무림의 식생형과 종다양성 패턴)

  • Pine (Pinus densiflora) forests of 315 sites were classified by applying the phytosociological method, TWINSPAN and DCA (detrended correspondence analysis). The floristic composition and diversity patterns of the vegetation types analyzed and documented. The vegetation types were classified 8 groups including 4 groups of Quercus mongolica type and 4 groups of Quercus serrata-Smilax china type. Taxonomically, Compositae was the most diverse family (21 genus, 45 species) and followed in order of Liliaceae (18 genus, 34 species), Rosaceae (17 genus, 34 species), and Leguminosae (15 genus, 25 species). The patterns of species richness, diveristy and evenness were significantly different among the vegetation types. In altitudinal pattern of species diversity, species richness monotonically decreased but species evenness increased with increasing altitude.

A Study on Effects of Artificial Structures on Bryophyte Diversity in Urban Greenery

  • It is important to consider urban parks and greenery not only from the viewpoint of amenity or aesthetics but also from the viewpoint of biodiversity. In this study, we focused on bryophytes (mosses), and analyzed how existence of artificial structures in urban greeney, such as concrete curbs and stone walls, affect species diversity of bryophytes. Kyoto Gyoen in Kyoto City, western Japan, was selected as the study site. In consideration of kinds of substrates on which bryophytes grow, microhabitats of Kyoto Gyoen were divided into ten types including concrete curbs and stone walls. In each type of microhabitats, we selected the area where bryophyte diversity was highest, and established a quadrat for bryophyte flora survey. Our results showed that the number of bryophyte species and growth forms and the value of diversity indices on concrete curbs or stone walls were higher than the averages of those. The bryophyte species were divided into the four groups by TWINSPAN as follows: Group A (epiphyte species), Group B (rocky species), Group C (roadsides, grassland or forest species), and Group D (waterside species). Bryophytes classified into Group B (rocky species) were mainly recorded on concrete curbs or stone walls. It was considered that the existence of artificial structures (concrete curbs and stone walls) provided favorite habitats for the bryophytes classified into Group B (rocky species), which mainly grows on concrete or rocks, and enhanced species diversity of bryophytes in Kyoto Gyoen.

The Characteristics of the Bird Communities by Land-use Types - The Case Study of Siheung City, Korea - (토지이용유형별 야생조류 군집구조 특성 분석 - 시흥시를 사례로 -)

  • To analyze the bird communities by the land use type, we surveyed 43 plots in Siheung City, Korea from Mar. 2009 to Feb. 2010 and classified the community by TWINSPAN and DCA. Classification result by TWINSPAN was classified into 4 communities. In the first division, waterbirds, such as spot-billed duck(Anas poecilorhyncha) and great egret(Egretta alba) operated as the differential species. In the second and third division, little grebe(Tachybaptus ruficollis) and eurasian sparrow(Passer montanus) were operated as the differential species. The relationship between land use types and classified bird communities, all plots of community I were located in the forest. Community II plots were contained all urban and several semi-natural land use types. Community III contains stream and rice paddy. Plots in the reservoir were classified community IV. The stream and rice paddy were classified into different communities, which were colsely related with the size of wetland paddy. Community III had the highest species diversity index and community II had lowest. Community III also had the highest maximum species diversity index and evenness index. The result of this study, small stream and small rice paddy located within the city have insignificant characteristics as the habitat for birds. Management size of semi-natural land use for wildbird habitat in the urban area should be considered for showing their habitat characteristics. If the classification of biotope type based on the scale of rice paddy and urban park and the type of landuse type in the riverside then we should be consider the standard of minium area.

Relationship between Tree Species Diversity and Carbon Stock Density in Moist Deciduous Forest of Western Himalayas, India

  • With the growing global concern about climate change, relationship between carbon stock density and tree species has become important for international climate change mitigation programmes. In this study, 150 Quadrats were laid down to assess the diversity, biomass and carbon stocks in each of the forest ranges (Barkot Range, Lachchiwala Range and Thano Range) of Dehra Dun Forest Division in Doon Valley, Western Himalaya, India. Community level carbon stock density was analyzed using Two Way Indicator Species Analysis. Species Richness and Shannon Weiner index was correlated with the carbon stocks of Doon Valley. Positive and weak relationship was found between the carbon stock density and Shannon Weiner Index, and between carbon stock density and Species Richness.

Altitudinal Vegetation Structure of Sunginbong in Ullungdo(Island) (울릉도 성인봉지역의 해발고별 식생구조)

  • Altitudinal changes in the vegetation of Sunginbong(984m) in UIlungdo (Island) were investigated by sample plots(forty l00$\m^2$) along elevation and analyzed by TWINSPAN and DCA techniques. In the results from the analysis of both techniques, altitudinal zonations were divided into 3 groups such as lower 300m area, 400~700m area, and above 800m area. DCA and similarity index analyses of elevational ranges showed discontinuities between lower and middle elevation areas. But there was a vegetation continuum between middle and high elevation areas. In the analysis of species diversity, there was no significant difference due to altitude except for maximum species diversity which was decreased with altitude. The mean tree density of canopy and understory layers in the middle elevation area showed the highest value, and the highest basal area was recorded at the lower elevation area.

Analysis of the Plant Community Structure in Gayasan National Park by the Ordination and Classification Technique (Ordination 및 Classification 방법에 의한 가야산지구의 식물군집구조분석)

  • A survey of Hongryu-Dong and Chi-in district. Gaya National Park, was conducted using 40 sample sites of 500$m^2$ size. TWINSPAN classification confirmed a complex pattern of both local and geographical variation in the vegetation: Dry and wet community types. Within dry community types, two floristic assocation of Pinus densiflora were defined according to local variation. Within wet community types. two floristic association were defined according to altitude. Those associations can be further subdivided floristically into eight subassociation. The vegetation pattern presented by DCA ordination corresponds to one of TWINSPAN at the first two division. The DCA ordination was successful in separating Pinus densiflora from broad leaf forest. Ordination of samples produced arrangements reflectly environmental gradient of soil. The correlation between the first axe of DCA and soil moisture, soil acid, altitude, maximum species diversity and species diversity was significantly negative. The similarity index between each community was very low level.

Studies on the Ehhancement of the Plant Species Diversity by the Urban Forest Management (도시림관리를 통한 식물 종다양성 증진에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to increase to increase the plant species diversity, which was based on the analysis of plant community structure and the survey of human's disturbance degree in Mt. Yongma and Mt. Acha urban nature park, Seoul. The plant community were divided into four groups by TWINSPAN and DCA. These groups were Pinus rigida-P. densiflora community, Quercus mongolica-Q.aliena-Q.accutissima community, Robinia pseudoacaia-Q.accutissima-Poplus${\times}$albaglandulosa community and R.pseudoacacia community. The successional trends of tree species seems to be from P.densiflora, P.rigida, Sorbus alniflora to Q.mongolica, Q.aliena and from P.${\times}$albaglandulosa, R.pseudoacacia, through Q.accutissima, to Q. mongolica, Q.aliena. The species diversity of plant community was high in natual plant community but was low in artificial planting community respectively. Number of species, number of species individuals, indices of species diversity was lowered and soil hardness was increased by the user's trampling, undercutting work and planting P.koraiensis after thinning. In the basis of study results, we proposed the management plan for the urban forest.

Vegetation Structure in Relation to Altitude from Jeongryeongchi to Gogiri Section in Baekdudaegan (백두대간 정령치-고기리 구간의 해발고에 따른 식생구조)

Similarity index analyses of elevational ranges showed discontinuities between above and lower elevation area. In the analysis of species diversity, there was no significant difference due to altitude.
