The process simulations are made on the IGCC power plant using heavy residue oil from refinery process. In order to model combined power block of IGCC, the present study employs the gas turbine of MS7001FA model integrated with ASU (Air Separation Unit), and considers the air extraction from gas turbine and the combustor dilution by returned nitrogen from ASU. The exhaust gas energy of gas turbine is recovered through the bottoming cycle with triple pressure HRSG (Heat Recovery Steam Generator). Clean syngas fuel of the gas turbine is assumed to be produced through Shell gasification of Visbreaker residue oil and Sulfinol-SCOT-Claus gas cleanup processes. The process optimization results show that the best efficiency of IGCC plant is achieved at 20% air extraction condition in the case without nitrogen dilution of gas turbine combustor find at the 40% with nitrogen dilution. Nitrogen dilution of combustor has very favorable and remarkable effect in reducing NOx emission level, while shifting the operation point of gas turbine to near surge point.
The global performance of the 5MW OC4 semisubmersible floating wind turbine in random waves was numerically simulated by using the turbine-floater-mooring fully coupled and time-domain dynamic analysis program FAST-CHARM3D. There have been many papers regarding floating offshore wind turbines but the effects of second-order wave-body interactions on their global performance have rarely been studied. The second-order wave forces are actually small compared to the first-order wave forces, but its effect cannot be ignored when the natural frequencies of a floating system are outside the wave-frequency range. In the case of semi-submersible platform, second-order difference-frequency wave-diffraction forces and moments become important since surge/sway and pitch/roll natural frequencies are lower than those of typical incident waves. The computational effort related to the full second-order diffraction calculation is typically very heavy, so in many cases, the simplified approach called Newman's approximation or first-order-wave-force-only are used. However, it needs to be justified against more complete solutions with full QTF (quadratic transfer function), which is a main subject of the present study. The numerically simulated results for the 5MW OC4 semisubmersible floating wind turbine by FAST-CHARM3D are also extensively compared with the DeepCWind model test results by Technip/NREL/UMaine. The predicted motions and mooring tensions for two white-noise input-wave spectra agree well against the measure values. In this paper, the numerical static-offset and free-decay tests are also conducted to verify the system stiffness, damping, and natural frequencies against the experimental results. They also agree well to verify that the dynamic system modeling is correct to the details. The performance of the simplified approaches instead of using the full QTF are also tested.

Recently, turbines operating in hydro power plants are required to undergo renovation and modernization due to their age exceeding 30 years. In the process of renovation or modernization, a performance test of the scaled-down model is necessary to verify the performance of the real-size model. This model test method, with criteria that is similar to that of a real turbine, is the most economical and important method. Furthermore, the shapes of the runner and guide vane can be modified or replaced easily. However, during the process of modernization, the components with the spiral casing and draft tube are impossible to repair or replace because of the buried ground. Thus, in this study, numerical analysis is conducted to investigate the hydraulic performance based on the difference between the two-dimensional computer-aided design (CAD) shape and the real three-dimensional scan shape of the spiral casing and draft tube.

Experiments have been performed to investigate the effect of secondary venturi tip angle on flow and spray characteristics in gas turbine combustor with a swirl cup assembly. Three variations of secondary venturi tip angle are made: converging, straight and diverging angles. It is found that the variation of venturi tip angle results in the significant changes of flow and spray characteristics in gas turbine combustors, such as the size and location of recirculation zones. drop size and mass distribution affecting combustion efficiency and NOx emissions. In diverge case, central toroidal recirculation zone(CTRZ) exists near the exit, which is known to be beneficial for flame stability. But in converge case, the finest SMD distribution and uniform mass distribution are found and CTRZ is longer than other cases. Consequently, high combustion efficiency and low pollutant emission are expected in converge case.
In this study, we used finite element analysis to conduct a containment capability evaluation of a turbine case. When analyzing the impact behavior of structures subjected to impact loads, it is important to consider the strain rate, as it affects the increase in flow stress. Therefore, we applied three material models (Cowper-Symonds, Johnson-Cook, and Modified Johnson-Cook) for the impact analysis. To validate these material models, we performed an impact test on an aluminum 6061 plate. By comparing and analyzing the experimental and analytical results, we determined that the Modified Johnson-Cook material model exhibited the least error. As a result, we applied this material model to evaluate the containment capability of the turbine case. This evaluation involved determining the occurrence of penetration, as well as the stress and strain induced at the collision area due to the initial velocity of the blade.
The present study has been carried out to analyze the flow characteristics of a heat recovery steam generator with the change of inlet flow conditions by using numerical flow analysis. The inlet of HRSG corresponds the outlet of gas turbine exit and the flow after gas turbine has strong swirl flow and turbulence. The inlet flow condition of HRSG should be included the exit flow characteristics of gas turbine. The present numerical analysis adopted the flow analysis result of gas turbine exit flow as a inlet flow condition of HRSG analysis. The computational flow analysis result of gas turbine exit shows that the maximum axial velocity appears near circular duct wall and the maximum turbulent kinetic energy and dissipation rate exist relatively higher gradient region of axial velocity. The comparison of flow analysis will be executed with change of inlet turbulent flow condition. The first case is using the inlet turbulent properties from the result of computational analysis of gas turbine exit flow, and the second case is using the assumed turbulent intensity with the magnitude proportional to the velocity magnitude and length scale. The computational results of flow characteristics for two cases show great difference especially in the velocity field and turbulent properties. The main conclusion of the present study is that the flow inlet condition of HRSG should be included the turbulent properties for the accurate computational result of flow analysis.

The effect of cutted pin in front of pin-fin array was analyzed for increasing the cooling performance of gas turbine blade. The numerical simulations were conducted to figure out the flow and thermal characteristics. The base case which is staggered pin-fin array, cut pin case 1 which has X2/Dp=1.25 cut pin and cut pin case 2 which has X3/Dp=1.75 cut pin were compared. The results showed that cut pin increases the strength of the horseshoe vortex which occurred at the leading edge of pin-fin array. Furthermore, the wake effect is reduced at the trailing edge of pin-fin array. As a result, the heat transfer distribution on the endwall increases. However, the friction factor increases owing to the installation of cut pin, but the thermal performance factor is increased maximum 23.8% in cut pin case 2. Therefore, installation of cut pin will be helpful for increasing the cooling performance of pin-fin array of gas turbine blade.
In this study, we investigate the wake characteristics in two cases which are laminar inflow and turbulent inflow. To solve the flow with wind turbines and its wake, we use large eddy simulation (LES) technique with actuator line method (ALM) and turbulent inflow of Turbsim. Turbulent inflow which contains the characteristic of the stable atmospheric boundary layer is used. We perform the quantitative analysis of velocity deficit and turbulence intensity in two cases. Time series of velocity deficit at the first, the second column in two cases are compared to observe the performance of wind turbine. The performance in the first column in laminar inflow is overestimated compared to that in turbulent inflow. And we observe that wake in the case with turbulent inflow drive to the span-wise direction and wake recovery in turbulent inflow is more effective. In quadrant analysis of Reynolds stress, the ejection and the sweep motion in turbulent inflow case are bigger than those in laminar inflow case.

The various film cooling hole shapes have been proposed for effective external cooling of gas turbine blade. In this study, the film cooling effectiveness by three different hole shapes (cylindrical hole, $15^{\circ}$ angle anti-vortex hole, 30-7-7 fan-shaped hole) were examined experimentally. Pressure Sensitive Paint (PSP) technique was used to measure the film cooling effectiveness. The coolant to mainstream density ratio was 1.0 and three blowing ratios of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 were considered. Results clearly showed that the effect of hole shape on the distribution of film cooling effectiveness. For the cylindrical hole case, the film cooling effectiveness decreased remarkably as the blowing ratio increased due to the jet lift off. Because of large hole exit area and low coolant momentum, the 30-7-7 fan-shaped hole case showed the highest film cooling effectiveness at all blowing ratio, followed by the anti-vortex hole case.
Experimental data are presented which describe the effects of a combustor-level high free-stream turbulence on the near-wall flow structure and heat/mass transfer on the endwall of a linear high-turning turbine rotor cascade. The end wall flow structure is visualized by employing the partial- and total-coverage oil-film technique, and heat/mass transfer rate is measured by the naphthalene sublimation method. A turbulence generator is designed to provide a highly-turbulent flow which has free-stream turbulence intensity and integral length scale of 14.7% and 80mm, respectively, at the cascade entrance. The surface flow visualizations show that the high free-stream turbulence has little effect on the attachment line, but alters the separation line noticeably. Under high free-stream turbulence, the incoming near-wall flow upstream of the adjacent separation lines collides more obliquely with the suction surface. A weaker lift-up force arising from this more oblique collision results in the narrower suction-side corner vortex area in the high turbulence case. The high free-stream turbulence enhances the heat/mass transfer in the central area of the turbine passage, but only a slight augmentation is found in the end wall regions adjacent to the leading and trailing edges. Therefore, the high free-stream turbulence makes the end wall heat load more uniform. It is also observed that the heat/mass transfers along the locus of the pressure-side leg of the leading-edge horseshoe vortex and along the suction-side corner are influenced most strongly by the high free-stream turbulence. In this study, the end wall surface is classified into seven different regions based on the local heat/mass transfer distribution, and the effects of the high free-stream turbulence on the local heat/mass transfer in each region are discussed in detail.
