  • The WDSS improves defensive capacity against web application layer DDoS attack by using web cache server and L7 switch which are added on the DDoS shelter system. When web DDoS attack occurs, security agents divert traffic from backbone network to sub-network of the WDSS and then DDoS protection device and L7 switch block abnormal packets. In the meantime, web cache server responds only to requests of normal clients and maintains stable web service. In this way, the WDSS can counteract the web DDoS attack which generates small traffic and depletes server-client session resource. Furthermore, the WDSS does not require IP tunneling because it is not necessary to retransfer the normal requests to original web server. In this paper, we validate operation of the WDSS and verify defensive capability against web application layer DDoS attacks. In order to do this, we built the WDSS on backbone network of an ISP. And we performed web DDoS tests by using a testing system that consists of zombie PCs. The tests were performed by three types and various amounts of web DDoS attacks. Test results suggest that the WDSS can detect small traffic of the web DDoS attacks which do not have repeat flow whereas the formal DDoS shelter system cannot.

  • This study analyzed the effect of related party transactions on the corporate value of Korean firms using panel data regression analysis. We tested the efficient transaction hypothesis and conflict of interests hypothesis which concern related party transactions. Five types of related party transactions were considered, including long term supply contracts, assets and business transfers, affiliate loans, equity investment, and credit offerings. If related party transactions were conducted for the purpose of enhancing corporate efficiency, results would have a positive effect on firm value. If related party transactions were conducted for the purpose of private profits of the controlling shareholders, the results would show a negative effect on firm value. Results were as follows. Firstly, it is confirmed that affiliate loans, equity investment, and credit offerings had negative effects on firm value. This implies that these types of related party transactions used by controlling shareholders for the purpose of their private profit, which supports the conflict of interests hypothesis. Secondly, it was found that long term supply contracts and assets and business transfers had no effect on firm value.

  • This study relates to the effect from enforcement of regulations in 2014 against controlling shareholder expropriation in Korean corporations. The relationship change between related party transactions (RPTs) and the corporate values of listed Korean corporations is analyzed for the five-year period before and after enforcement of the regulations (2009-2013 and 2014-2018). Three types of RPTs regarding long-term supply contracts, loans, and credit were adopted for analysis. Following are the results of a regression analysis with panel data that consist of 6,534 firm-year observations. First shown is that the enforcement of regulations affects the relationship between RPTs and corporate value. Specifically, for all corporations, the result implies that the purpose of expropriation is weakened, and the efficiency and transparency of transactions in corporations are enhanced due to enforcement of the regulations. Secondly, the extent to which the regulations exert influence on designated and non-designated corporations differs. Regulation enforcement seems to be more influential on non-designated corporations than on designated ones for the efficiency and transparency of transactions in the long-term contract type of RPT.

  • With the increase in infrastructure needs and tunnel construction, more complicated geometries have come to light, especially in cross tunnel design and construction. The major factors to influence existing tunnels are spacing between tunnels, relative position, size of the new tunnel, construction techniques, topographic and geologic conditions, structure, and alternative construction. In this study, settlement from an excavation for a new tunnel near an existing tunnel, settlement from a change in position of the new tunnel relative to an existing tunnel, and the distribution of deformations of the existing tunnel as a result of excavating the cross-location are analyzed through laboratory model tests. As the results, in condition of the new tunnels go through below the existing tunnel, not only analysed through the standard of the diameter of the tunnel, so it would need to set up to strengthen the field within each side of the 1D, but also determined the part of the cross in the existing and the new tunnel, should implement the reinforcement from the part of new tunnel to the existing tunneling influence of excavation.

  • Difficult ground conditions (e.g., fault zone and mixed grounds) are highly probable to appear in subsea and urban tunnels because of the shallow working depth and alluvial characteristics. TBM usually experienced decrease of penetration rate and increase of downtime when it meets these difficult ground conditions. The problems are usually caused by the adverse geological conditions, and it is preferable to determine the optimal operational parameters of TBM based on the previous operational data obtained while excavating a preceding tunnel. This study carried out for efficient TBM excavation in fault zone and mixed grounds. TBM excavation data from the tunnel site in Singapore and the characteristics of the TBM excavation data was analyzed. The key operational parameters (i.e., thrust, torque, and RPM), penetration rate, and downtime were highly influenced by the presence of fault zones and mixed grounds, and the features was discussed. It is expected that the results and main discussions will be useful information for future tunneling projects in similar geological conditions.

  • The soil tests have been performed on the specimens obtained from about 1,150 sites including landslides and non-landslides areas in natural terrains for last 10 years. Based on the results of those tests, the average soil properties are estimated and the simple equations for estimating permeability are proposed according to geologic conditions. The average permeability in Granite and Mudstone sites is higher than other sites and the content of silt and clay in Mudstone and Gneiss sites is higher than other sites. The correlation analysis and the regression analysis were performed to estimate the coefficient of permeability according to geological conditions. As the result of the correlation analysis, the coefficient of permeability is selected as a dependent variable, and the silt and clay contents, the water contents and the dry unit weights are selected as independent variables. As the result of the regression analysis, the silt and clay contents and the void ratio were involved commonly in the linear regression equations according to geological conditions. To verify the proposed the linear regression equations, the measured result of the coefficient of permeability at other sites was compared with the result predicted with the proposed equations. As the result of comparison, there were a little bit different between them for some data. However the difference was relatively small. Therefore, the linear regression equations for estimating the coefficient of permeability according to geological conditions may be applied to Korean soils. However, these equations should be verified and corrected continuously to improve the accuracy.

  • Uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of rock is one of the important factors to determine the advance speed during shield TBM tunnel excavation. UCS can be obtained through the Geotechnical Data Report (GDR), and it is difficult to measure UCS for all tunneling alignment. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to predict UCS by utilizing TBM machine driving data and machine learning technique. Several machine learning techniques were compared to predict UCS, and it was confirmed the stacking model has the most successful prediction performance. TBM machine data and UCS used in the analysis were obtained from the excavation of rock strata with slurry shield TBMs. The data were divided into 8:2 for training and test and pre-processed including feature selection, scaling, and outlier removal. After completing the hyper-parameter tuning, the stacking model was evaluated with the root-mean-square error (RMSE) and the determination coefficient (R2), and it was found to be 5.556 and 0.943, respectively. Based on the results, the sacking models are considered useful in predicting rock strength with TBM excavation data.

  • Using a first-principles total-energy method, we investigate structural and energy changes on Ag/Si(111)$\sqrt{3}{\times}\sqrt{3}$($\sqrt{3}-Ag$ hereafter) as the number of the additional Ag adatoms increases. The Ag coverage varies from 0.02 to 0.14 ML. Most Ag adatoms occupy the ST site, which is the center of small triangles of the substrate Ag layer that is composed of small and large triangles. One of the interesting adsorption features is that the adatoms immerse below the substrate layer. The total energy calculations show that the clusters become the most stable when the number of Ag atoms is three. This three-Ag cluster becomes the building block of the $\sqrt{21}{\times}\sqrt{21}$ phase that shows a large surface conductivity. The simulated STM images show that the adatoms look dark in filled-state images while bright in empty-state images. This suggests that the adatoms donate their charge to the substrate. The simulated STM images agree well with the experimental images.

  • High-k dielectric materials such as $HfO_2$, $ZrO_2$ and $Al_2O_3$ increase gate capacitance and reduce gate leakage current in MOSFET structures. This behavior suggests that high-k materials will be promise candidates to substitute as a tunnel barrier. Furthermore, stack structure of low-k and high-k tunnel barrier named variable oxide thickness (VARIOT) is more efficient.[1] In this study, we fabricated the $WSi_2$ nanocrystals nonvolatile memory device with $SiO_2/HfO_2/Al_2O_3$ tunnel layer. The $WSi_2$ nano-floating gate capacitors were fabricated on p-type Si (100) wafers. After wafer cleaning, the phosphorus in-situ doped poly-Si layer with a thickness of 100 nm was deposited on isolated active region to confine source and drain. Then, on the gate region defined by using reactive ion etching, the barrier engineered multi-stack tunnel layers of $SiO_2/HfO_2/Al_2O_3$ (2 nm/1 nm/3 nm) were deposited the gate region on Si substrate by using atomic layer deposition. To fabricate $WSi_2$ nanocrystals, the ultrathin $WSi_2$ film with a thickness of 3-4 nm was deposited on the multi-stack tunnel layer by using direct current magnetron sputtering system [2]. Subsequently, the first post annealing process was carried out at $900^{\circ}C$ for 1 min by using rapid thermal annealing system in nitrogen gas ambient. The 15-nm-thick $SiO_2$ control layer was deposited by using ultra-high vacuum magnetron sputtering. For $SiO_2$ layer density, the second post annealing process was carried out at $900^{\circ}C$ for 30 seconds by using rapid thermal annealing system in nitrogen gas ambient. The aluminum gate electrodes of 200-nm thickness were formed by thermal evaporation. The electrical properties of devices were measured by using a HP 4156A precision semiconductor parameter analyzer with HP 41501A pulse generator, an Agillent 81104A 80MHz pulse/pattern generator and an Agillent E5250A low leakage switch mainframe. We will discuss the electrical properties for application next generation non-volatile memory device.

  • Tunneling-induced displacement in a jointed rock mass is an important factor to control tunnel stability and to secure a demanded space and construction quality. The magnitude of the inducible displacements is significantly affected by an elastic modulus and therefore, in a rock mass where a joint controls tunnel behavior, it is very important to estimate an elastic modulus of jointed rock mass reliably. Elastic modulus of jointed rock mass is affected by many factors such as rock type, joint condition, and loading condition. Nevertheless, most existing studies were focused on rough empirical relationships based on compressive loading conditions, which are different from tunnel excavation loading conditions, without a systematic approach of rock, joint, and loading conditions together. Therefore, this study considered rock and joint conditions systematically to estimate an elastic modulus of jointed rock mass under tunnel excavation loading. The controlled factors considered in this study are rock types and joint conditions (joint shear strength, joint inclination angle, number of joint sets, and joint spacing). Numerical parametric studies have been carried out with a consideration of different rock and joint conditions; the results have been compared with existing empirical relationships; and charts of elastic modulus change of different rock and joint conditions have been provided. The results are expected to have a great practical use for estimating the convergence induced by tunnel excavation in jointed rockmass.
