Numerical Evaluation of the Strut Interference and the 3-Run Image method for Wind Tunnel Tests

  • In order to correct the strut interference in wind tunnel tests, image methods are conventionally used. Because of their excessive extra runs, some alternatives have been tried to reduce the extra runs. In this study, these alternatives were reviewed and checked by the strut interference evaluation with the panel code, CMARC. The present work shows that the strut interference is free from neither model configuration nor model attitude. This dependency makes the alternatives to the image method unfeasible. The 3-run image method was also evaluated. It worked well even for the exaggerated windshield. At this point, reducing the image runs by neglecting parameters affecting minor influence would be best.

Real-time Image Scanning System for Detecting Tunnel Cracks Using Linescan Cameras

  • In this paper, real-time image scanning system using linescan cameras is designed. The system is specially designed to diagnose and analyse the conditions of tunnels such as crack widths through the captured images. The system consists of two major parts, the image acquisition system and the image merging system. To save scanned image data into storage media in real-time, the image acquisition system has been designed with two different control and management modules. The control modules are in charge of controlling the hardware device and the management modules handle system resources so that the scanned images are safely saved to the magnetic storage devices. The system can be mounted to various kinds of vehicles. After taking images, the image merging system generates extended images by combining saved images. Several tests are conducted in laboratory as well as in the field. In the laboratory simulation, both systems are tested several times and upgraded. In the field-testing, the image acquisition system is mounted to a specially designed vehicle and images of the interior surface of the tunnel are captured. The system is successfully tested in a real tunnel with a vehicle at the speed of 20 km/h. The captured images of the tunnel condition including cracks are vivid enough for an expert to diagnose the state of the tunnel using images instead of seeing through his/her eyes.

Wind Tunnel Testing Productivity at KARI LSWT

  • Productivity enhancement program of wind tunnel testing has begun at Korea Aerospace Research Institute Low Speed Wind Tunnel (KARI LSWT). A previous test record of a canard airplane model was adopted to examine the current status of wind tunnel testing efficiency. The time consumed to perform testing activities from the model preparation to data collection was broken down and the results were compared with those of the recent Boeing low speed test result. The efforts to improve the wind tunnel productivity consisted of the installation of mini crane underneath of test section, fabricating lift device for image fairings, model configuration changing rigs and the modifications of external balance system. Time reductions for changing strut interface platform and installation of image fairings. These effects showed more than 70% improvement over the previous test time. Integration of the new and modified systems will improve productivity of wind tunnel testing in KARI LSWT.

Wind Tunnel Test of MRP Model using External Balance

  • A comparative wind tunnel testing of an airplane model was performed at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute Low Speed Wind tunnel(KARI LSWT). The model used for the comparative test was a seaplane model from the Glenn L. Martin Wind(GLM) Tunnel of University of Maryland, U.S.A. The 6-component external balance used in force and moment measurement is pyramidal type, which is a precision device that has strain gauge-type load cell inside of balance and the virtual center of the balance coincides with the tunnel centerline. Image method is adopted to eliminate the tare and interference of the model support, and to correct the flow angularity to the model also. Test results from KARI LSWT were compared with the results from GLM tunnel.

  • 최근, 국내의 도심지와 수도권을 잇는 급행철도 사업, 간선도로 및 고속도로의 지중화 사업 등과 같이 교통 인프라 건설이 활발하게 추진되고 있으며 국토의 효율적인 활용을 위하여 지하 터널 및 산 터널의 시공이 활발해지고 있다. 터널 시공이 늘어남에 따라 콘크리트 구조물의 노후화로 인한 안전진단, 유지보수 및 관리의 필요성도 증대되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 인력에 의한 외관조사의 단점을 해결하고 터널 안전점검의 자동화를 위하여 터널 스캐닝영상을 통한 안전점검을 제시한다. 터널 스캐닝영상을 통한 안전점검은 기존 인력에 의한 외관조사에 비해 조사기간과 인력을 크게 줄일 수 있으며 조사자의 안전사고와 교통체증에 따른 사회적 비용을 절감할 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 터널 스캐닝영상 기반 안전점검을 위해서는 터널 스캐닝영상의 접합을 통하여 평면전개 이미지를 생성하는 것이 핵심이다. 본 연구에서는 터널 스캐닝영상 기반 안전점검의 필수기술인 터널 스캐닝 다중 촬영 영상 접합에 적합한 알고리즘에 대한 성능평가를 진행하였다. 터널이미지 접합에 유리한 알고리즘을 찾기 위하여 OpenCV에서 제공하는 특징점 검출 및 매칭 알고리즘 중 실수기술자와 높은 정확도를 갖는 SIFT, 이진기술자를 갖고 연산속도가 빠른 ORB, BRISK 총 3가지 알고리즘을 비교 분석하고자 한다. 터널이미지는 크게 콘크리트부, 조명부와 타일부로 나누어 터널이미지의 특성을 반영하였다. 터널이미지 접합에 유리한 알고리즘은 특징점 검출 개수, 연산속도, 특징점 매칭의 정확성, 영상접합 결과를 종합하여 판별하였다. 접합성능은 SIFT알고리즘이 가장 좋았으며 ORB, BRISK도 짧은 연산시간과 준수한 성능을 보였다. 연산시간보다 정확도가 중요시되는 정밀한 평면전개 이미지 생성에 SIFT가 활용될 수 있고 ORB와 BRISK도 준수한 접합결과를 보여줘 대용량 영상에서 빠른 영상처리 속도가 요구되는 작업이 필요할 경우 사용될 수 있는 가능성을 확인했다.

어안렌즈 카메라를 이용한 터널 모자이크 영상 제작 (Tunnel Mosaic Images Using Fisheye Lens Camera)

  • 최근 각종 건설현장에서 최신측량기술을 이용한 다양한 정보 취득을 통해 시공성 및 안전성을 높이는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 디지털 영상은 영상 취득이 간편할 뿐만 아니라 영상으로부터 다양한 정보를 취득할 수 있기 때문에 최근 영상처리기술의 발전과 더불어 많은 활용성이 기대되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 터널과 같은 지하공간의 경우 일반렌즈로는 영상 촬영이 어려운 단점을 극복하기 위하여 어안렌즈를 활용한 영상 취득을 제안하였으며, 터널벽면을 모자이크 영상으로 매핑하는 프로그램을 개발하였다. 터널벽면에 대한 모자이크영상은 터널현장에서 절리면의 검출과 콘크리트 라이닝의 균열, 누수, 백화, 박리 등의 이상을 검측하고 분석하는데 활용될 수 있다.

Wind Tunnel Test of a Canard Airplane

  • A low speed wind tunnel test was conducted for a canard airplane model in KARI LSWT. The purpose of the presented paper is to investigate the proper testing approach to correct tare precisely and the interference effects for the canard models which has 21% of canard-to-wing area ratio. Most of tests were performed with image system installation for various elevator deflection conditions at the flexed canard incidence angles. To evaluate the effectiveness of the image system, the obtained correction quantity at an zero elevator setting condition with image system was applied to the rest of elevator deflections and compared with the acquired results for all elevator deflections with image system. Test result showed that the amount of correction quantities were strongly dependent on the elevator deflections, and the difference in aerodynamic coefficients for two approaches was gradually amplified as the elevator deflection angles increased. An adoption of the image system was strongly recommended for the higher canard-to -wing area ratio model, if a proper level of accuracy was required.

터널 막장면 고해상도 DEM(Digital Elevation Model) 생성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Developing a High-Resolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of a Tunnel Face)

  • Using high resolution stereoscopic imaging system three digital elevation model of tunnel face is acquired. The images oriented within a given tunnel coordinate system are brought into a stereoscopic vision system enabling three dimensional inspection and evaluation. The possibilities for the prediction ahead and outside of tunnel face have been improved by the digital vision system with 3D model. Interpolated image structures of rock mass between subsequent stereo images will enable to model the rock mass surrounding the opening within a short time at site. The models shall be used as input to numerical simulations on site, comparison of expected and encountered geological conditions, and for the interpretation of geotechnical monitoring results.

영상처리기법을 이용한 무인전투기 와류 궤적 계측에 관한 연구 (A Study on the measurement for Vortex trajectory over an UCAV using image processing methods)

  • 현재 국방과학연구소 수동 시험에서 생성된 영상데이터는 수작업에 의해 분석되어지고 있다. 이러한 방법은 관측자에 따라 정확성과 분석소요시간이 상이할 수 있다 . 본 논문에서는 개선된 영상데이터 처리와 분석을 위해 MATLAB을 기반으로 한 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 이 알고리즘은 왜곡 보정 , 그레이 레벨 변환, 노이즈 제거, 이진화를 하는 영상 전처리 과정, 와류 궤적을 계측하는 영상 분석 과정으로 구성되어 있다 . 수동 시험에서 획득된 영상데이터를 이용하여 테스트 한 결과 제안된 알고리즘은 기존 영상데이터 분석 방법에 비해 정확성과 실행속도가 향상되었다.

PIV 기법을 이용한 캐비테이션 터널에서의 Honeycomb 난류 계측 (Measurement of Honeycomb Turbulence in a Cavitation Tunnel Using Particle Image Velocimetry Method)

  • The two dimensional PIV (particle image velocimetry) measurement technique is applied to water flow in a narrow cavitation tunnel. The nearly homogeneous and isotropic turbulent flows are generated by the honeycomb installed in the tunnel and visualized with a PIV technique. The velocities in the measurement plane at the tunnel centerline 184cm downward from the honeycomb were measured and calculated by an image correlation technique. The turbulent properties are evaluated and each term in the turbulent kinetic energy equation is calculated for the conditions with different internal pressures. Lowering the internal pressure gives an effect on the turbulent flow due to growing bubbles which are resolved in the water. The turbulent kinetic energy in the measurement plane is decayed much slower than those of other research results carried out with wind tunnels. With decreasing the tunnel internal pressures the turbulent intensities are increased about 1.5 times and the anisotropic tendency is also increased.
