The nonlinear dynamic characteristic of a straight tube conveying fluid with constraints and an attached mass on the tube is examined in this study. An experimental apparatus composed of an elastomer tube conveying water which has an attached mass and constraints is made and comparisons are done between the theoretical results from non-linear equation of motion of piping system and experimental results. And the results show that the tube is destabilized as the mass of the attached mass increases, and stabilized as the position of the attached mass close to the fixed end. In case of a small end-mass, the system shows rich and different types of periodic solutions. For a constant end-mass, the system undergoes a series of bifurcations after the first Hopf bifurcation, as the flow velocity increases, which causes chaotic motion of the tube eventually.

This research is to review the possibility of reducing the noise radiated from the tube exit by controling the sound reflection coefficient at the inclined exit. The sound reflection coefficient at the inclined exit of flanged tube was measured by both transfer function method and standing wave ratio method. Accuracy on the sound reflection coefficient measured by transfer function method was verified through comparison with sound reflection coefficient measured by standing ratio method. The flanged tube had lower sound reflection coefficient than the tube which have no flange. Also the sound reflection coefficient was decreased in accordance with increasing the inclined angle of unflanged tube.
When the tube contacted to support, anti-vibration bar of the steam generator in nuclear power plant, the contact area is worn out by their relative displacement and contact force. Connors and Au-Yang found the relation between tube worn displacement and volume, or normal work rate at given gap size. The present analysis is obtained the relation between tube worn displacement and normal work rate at various gap size modifying Au-Yang's result. The results are compared with Connors and Yettisir and Pettigrew's results. The comparison shows that Yettisir and Pettigrew result is fairly good agreement with Connors and present results with gap clearance, 0.015in.

It is necessary to determine the vibration source and its transmission paths in order to develop a low-noise compressor. Through the use of multiple-input/single-output(MISO) mode1, the transmission paths of vibration within a reciprocating compressor have been investigated. In order to identify the transmission path, we measure the accelerations of the block and transverse vibrations of the line discharge tube. As outputs, vibrations of compressor shell were measured at three positions; cylinder head, one near the suction line, and the top of upper shell. The partial coherence function and transfer function are obtained ken the measured data, and the results are observed in order to determine vibration source and its influence on the shell vibration.

Flow-Induced Vibration of steam generator tubes may result in fretting wear damage at the tube-to-support locations. KSNP(Korean Standard Nuclear Power plant) steam generators experienced fretting wear in the upper part of U-bend above the central cavity region of steam generators. This region has conditions susceptible to the flow-induced vibration, such as high flow velocity, high void fraction, and longer unsupported span. To improve its performance, APR1400 steam generator is designed with additional supports in this region to reduce unsupported span and to reduce peak velocity in the central cavity region. In this paper, we examined its performance improvement using ATHOS code. The thermal-hydraulic condition in the region of secondary side of APR1400 steam generator is obtained using the ATHOS3 code. The effective mass for modal analysis is calculated using the void fraction, enthalpy, and operating pressure information from ATHOS3 code result. With the effective mass distribution along the tube, natural frequency and mode shape is obtained using ANSYS code. Finally, stability ratios and real mean squared displacements for selected tubes of the APR1400 steam generator are computed. From these results, the current design of the APR1400 steam generator are examined.

In the present paper, the phenomena of abnormal noise and vibration due to acoustic resonance of CFBC(Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion) boiler was presented. The acoustic resonance which occurred in the gas path of CFBC boiler system was caused by coincidence of vortex shedding frequency of tube bank and acoustic natural frequency of duct and hopper. And, the phenomena of beating arose from the interference of two closed resonant waves at 66.4Hz and 70.8Hz. There are two control methods for acoustic resonance in this system. The first method is to change the vortex shedding frequency from the structural alterations on the tube bank. And the second method is to change the acoustic natural frequency of the gas path with the installation of anti-noise baffles. The second one which is relatively easy to apply, was adapted in this study. As a result, the noise and vibration level have been decreased by 41dB and 94% at 66.4Hz, respectively. And the improvement of noise and vibration at 70.8Hz was identified by sensory evaluation.
Tubes in heat exchanger of fuel rods in reactor core are supported at intemediate point by support p0lates or springs. Current practice is, in case of heat exchanger, to allow clearance between tube and support plate for design and manufacturing consideration. And in case of fuel rod the clearance in support point can be generated due to the support spring force relaxation. Flow-induced vibration of a tube can cause it to impact or rub against support plate or against adjacent tubes and can result in fretting-wear. The tube-to- support dynamic interaction is used to relate experimental wear data from single-span test rigs to real multi-span heat exchanger configurations. The dynamic interaction cna be measured during experimental wear tests. However, the dynamic interaction is difficult to measure in real heat exchangers and, therefore, analytical techniques are required to estimate this interaction. This paper describels the nonlinear impact model of DAGS(Dynamic Analysis of Gapped Structure) code which simulates the tube response to external sinusodial or step excitation and predicts tube motion and tube-to-support dynamic interaction. Three experimental measurements-two single span rods excited by sinusodial force and a two span rod impacted by a steel ball are compared from the simulation nonlinear model of DAGS code. The simulation results from DAGS code are in good agreement with measurements. Therefore, the developed model of DAGS code is good analytical tool for estimating tube-to-support dynamic interaction in real heat exchangers.
Fluidelastic instability is a key issue in steam generator tube bundles subjected in cross-flow. With a low flow velocity, a large amplitude vibration of the tube observed by many researchers. However, the mechanism of this vibration is seldom analyzed. In this paper, the mechanism of cross-flow effects on fluidelastic instability of tube bundles was investigated. Analysis reveals that when the system reaches the critical state, there would be two forms, with two critical velocities, and thus two expressions for the critical velocities were obtained. Fluidelastic instability experiment and numerical analysis were conducted to obtain the critical velocity. And, if system damping is small, with increases of the flow velocity, the stability behavior of tube array changes. At a certain flow velocity, the stability of tube array reaches the first critical state, a dynamic bifurcation occurs. The tube array returns to a stable state with continues to increase the flow velocity. At another certain flow velocity, the stability of tube array reaches the second critical state, another dynamic bifurcation occurs. However, if system damping is big, there is only one critical state with increases the flow velocity. Compared the results of experiments to numerical analysis, it shows a good agreement.

Heat exchanger tube array in a heat recovery steam generator is exposed to the hot exhaust gas flow and it could cause the flow induced vibration, which could damage the heat exchanger tube array. It is needed to establish the characteristics of flow induced vibration in the tube array for the structural safe operation of the heat exchanger. Several researches for the flow induced vibration of typical heat exchangers had been conducted and the nondimensional PSD(Power Spectral Density) function with the Strouhal number, fD/U, had been derived by experimental method. The present study examined the results of the previous experimental researches for the nondimensional PSD characteristics by CFD analysis and the basis for the application of flow induced vibration to the heat recovery steam generator tube array would be prepared from the present CFD analysis. For the previous mentioned purpose, the present CFD analysis introduced circular cylinder tube array and calculated with the unsteady laminar flow for the tube array. The characteristics of lift fluctuation over the cylinder tube array was investigated. The derived nondimensional PSD was compared with the results of the previous experimental researches and the characteristics of lift PSD for circular cylinder tube array was established from the present CFD study.
