Junctional Neurulation : A Junction between Primary and Secondary Neural Tubes

  • Recent case reports of junctional neural tube defect (JNTD) which is a peculiar type of spinal anomaly showing the functional disconnection of the primary and secondary neural tubes has risen interest in the process of junctional neurulation (the connection between the two neural tubes) during development. This article summarizes the clinical features of the JNTD and reviews the literature on the basic research on junctional neurulation.

An Experimental Study on a Bond Stress in Concrete Filled Circular Steel Tubular Column Strengthened by the Stiffener (스티프너로 보강한 콘크리트 충전 원형 강관기둥의 부착응력에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This paper is presented an experimental studies on bond stress between steel and concrete in concrete filled steel tubes. In the actual building frames, vertical dead and live loads on beams are usually transferred to columns by beam-to-column connections. In case when concrete filled steel tubes are used as columns of an actual building frame which has a simple connection, shear forces in the beam ends are not directly transferred to the concrete core but directly to the steel tube. Provided that the bond effect between steel tube and concrete core should not be expected, none of the end shear in the beams would be transferred to the concrete core but only to the steel tube. Therefore, it is important to investigate the bond strength between steel tube and concrete core in the absence of shear connectors.

  • During the last years hollow core insulators started their success story in the field of high voltage engineering for electrical apparatus, substituting porcelain insulators. The termination, also named top and bottom fittings are used for the connection to the rest of the electrical apparatus. The top and bottom flange are attached to the composite to transmit mechanical load and also ensure the gas tightness. They are bonded by epoxy glue with a glass transition temperature of about $130^{\circ}C$-$150^{\circ}C$ the glass reinforced epoxy tube of filament winding. This paper describes the results of a study on the bonded joints of fiber reinforced epoxy tube and cast aluminum. This suggests that surface roughness and glue types play an important role in evaluating of gas sealing capability on the flange and fiber reinforced epoxy tube in the composite hollow bushing.

  • Building foundations for Top-Down construction require a special setting, because the foundations have to be placed way before excavation for the substructure of main building, Usually, the foundation goes into the layer of rock and it is often called rock-pier foundation, Currently, a cage of steel reinforcing bars is inserted to the pre-excavated hole in the rock layer, hanging down from the wide flange steel column above. This paper presents a new method for connecting the prefounded column and the steel cage with a coupler for better connection between the two, The use of a circular Concrete Filled Tube (CFT) as a prefounded column makes it possible to have this type of connection. The details of the connection and application to a Top-Down construction site is also included in this paper.

At the result of the removal characteristic experiments of Escherichia coli using the discharge tube with $ZrO_2$ beads, because the electric field is also increased when input voltage is increased, the removal characteristic of Escherichia coli was appeared relation connection to input voltage. And if a passing number of test water in discharge tube with $ZrO_2$beads is increased, the removal ratio of Escherichia coli is to be increased because passing number of electric field section is increased. And if diameter of $ZrO_2$beads is increased, the removal time of Escherichia coli is to be decreased because dielectric polalization of $ZrO_2$beads. Also, the removal ratio of Escherichia coli of the discharge tube with $ZrO_2$beads. is appeared higher than the removal ratio of the discharge tube without $ZrO_2$beads. And a satulation punt of ozone and $H_2$ $O_2$generation density inner water was appeared near 60[min].

Seismic performance of the thin-walled square CFST columns with lining steel tubes

  • This paper proposes an innovative thin-walled square concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) column with an octagonal/circular lining steel tube, in which the outer steel tube and the inner liner are fabricated independently of each other and connected by slot-weld or self-tapping screw connections. Twelve thin-walled square CFST columns were tested under quasi-static loading, considering the parameters of liner type, connection type between the square tube and liner, yield strength of steel tube, and the axial load ratio. The seismic performance of the thin-walled square CFST columns is effectively improved by the octagonal and circular liners, and all the liner-stiffened specimens showed an excellent ductile behavior with the ultimate draft ratios being much larger than 1/50 and the ductility coefficients being generally higher than 4.0. The energy dissipation abilities of the specimens with circular liners and self-tapping screw connections were superior to those with octagonal liner and slot-weld connections. Based on the test results, both the finite element (FE) and simplified theoretical models were established, considering the post-buckling strength of the thin-walled square steel tube and the confinement effect of the liners, and the proposed models well predicted the hysteretic behavior of the liner-stiffened specimens.

Development of Hybrid FRP-Concrete Composite Pile Connection (하이브리드 FRP-Concrete 복합말뚝의 연결부의 개발)

  • Due to the advantageous mechanical properties of the fiber reinforced polymeric plastics(FRP), their application in the construction industries is ever increasing trend, as a substitute of structural steel which is highly vulnerable under hazardous environmental conditions (i.e., corrosion, humidity, etc.). In this study, hybrid FRP-concrete composite pile (HCFFT) connection is suggested. The HCFFT is consisted of pultruded FRP unit module, filament wound FRP which is in the outside of mandrel composed of circular shaped assembly of pultruded FRP unit modules, and concrete which is casted inside of the circular tube shaped hybrid FRP pile. Therefore, pultruded FRP can increase the flexural load carrying capacity, filament wound FRP and concrete filled inside can increase axial load carrying capacity. In the study, connection capacity of HCFFT(small and mid size) is investigated throughout experiments and finite element method. From the results of experiments, we suggested the connection methods about HCFFT pile connection.
