  • The purpose of this paper is to explain the making procedure and the usage of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve for interpretation of radiographic images. The conventional radiograms obtained after the creation of the lesions in the acrylic plates and were enhanced in color. The observer were informed of which tooth to examine, the 'a priori' probability of a lesion present and the approximate diameter of the lesions. The two groups of films were interpreted separately by the same observer using the same rating scale. The following rating scale was used: A; definitely no lesion, B; probably no lesion, C; not sure, D; probably a lesion, and E; definitely a lesion. In analysis, for each observer the diagnostic results in terms of true positive (TP) and false positive (FP) decisions were plotted on a graph. The lowest point on the graph represents the TP and FP when only decisions designated as E according to the rating scale are included. The next point shows the TP and FP values when diagnoses designated as D are added and so forth. By connecting such plot points, a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves is obtained. The area under the curve represents the diagnostic accuracy resulting from a diagnostic performance at pure chance level and a value of 1.0 at perfect performance. This method has been known as an useful method to detect the minute difference for each radiographic technic, each observer and for the different lesion depths.

  • Purpose : It is important to reduce radiation dose associated with computed tomography (CT) scanning to as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). With Dose Modulation Technic, user select a desired image quality and the system adapts tube current to obtain the desired image quality with greater radiation dose efficiency. In this paper, we presents a comprehensive description of fundamentals, clinical applications and radiation dose benefits of Dose Modulation Technic depending on Body Mass Index(BMI). Materials and Methods : In this study, 149 patients were examined(The mean age : $58{\pm}12.4$ years old). Biograph True Point 40 (Siemens, USA) and Gemini TF 64 (Philips. Cleveland) were used for equipment. When we used Care Dose 4D (Siemens, USA) and D-dom (Philips, Cleveland), we measured dose reduction and Computed Tomography Dose Index (CTDI) depending on BMI. Then we analyze data using SPSS Ver.18. Results : When we used Care Dose 4D, p-value is considered statistically significant by groups with the result that we compared Care Dose 4D with D-dom. On the other hand, p-value isn't considered statistically significant by groups using D-dom. Conclusion : Dose modulation based on the projection angle didn't affect degree of obesity. And When using Care Dose 4D, dose reduction rate in the normal patients were higher than the obese. In this study, there are errors on somato type. So I think more research have to be done. Then application of Dose Modulation technic can help in maintaining acceptable image quality while reducing radiation dose by 20-60% in most instances.

  • The TADF properties for carbazol-dicyanobenzene, carbazol-diphenyl sulfone, carbazol-benzonitrile derivatives as OLED candidate materials are theoretically investigated using density functional theory (DFT) with $6-31G^{**}$, cc-pVDZ, and cc-pVTZ basis sets. The optimized geometries, harmonic vibrational frequencies, and HOMO-LUMO energy separations are predicted at the B3LYP/$6-31G^{**}$ level of theory. The harmonic vibrational frequencies of the molecules considered in this study show all real numbers implying true minima. The time dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations have been also applied to investigate the absorption and emission wavelength (${\lambda}_{max}$), energy differences (${\Delta}E_{ST}$) between excited singlet ($S_1$) and triplet ($T_1$) states of candidate materials.

  • These experiments were conducted to evaluate the feeding value of rice protein concentrate (RPC) in weaning pigs. In expt. I, a 5-week feeding trial was conducted with 126 pigs (L${\times}$Y${\times}$D; 21 d-old; 5.32${\pm}$0.34 kg). Treatments were spray-dried plasma protein (SDPP; control), soy protein concentrate (SPC) and RPC (phase 1), and dried porcine soluble (DPS; control), SPC and RPC (phase 2). An ileal digestibility trial was also conducted to compare digestibility of amino acids in the tested protein sources. In expt. II, 160 weaning pigs (L${\times}$Y${\times}$D; 21 d-old; 5.65${\pm}$0.35 kg) were used in a 5-week feeding trial to determine the optimal inclusion level of RPC in the diet. Treatments were control (9% SPC), and three levels of RPC instead of SPC in the diets (3, 6 and 9%). During phase 1, pigs fed SDPP showed better (p<0.05) ADG and FCR compared with those fed SPC or RPC, while there was no difference in ADFI among treatments. During phase 2, however, pigs fed DPS showed lower (p<0.05) ADG than those fed SPC or RPC. During the total period, there were no significant differences in ADG, ADFI and FCR among treatments. The apparent ileal digestibilities of his, lys, phe, thr and met were not different among the tested protein sources. The apparent ileal digestibilities of arg, ile, leu and val were lower (p<0.05) in RPC than SDPP. The true ileal digestibilities of arg and leu were lower (p<0.05) in RPC than SDPP and SPC. However, that of met was higher (p<0.05) in RPC than SDPP. In expt. II, there were no significant differences in ADG and FCR when SPC was substituted with RPC up to 9% during the total period. In conclusion, based on our experimental results, RPC would replace SPC in the complex prestarter diet, which is somewhat cheaper than SPC.

  • This paper deals with the accurate estimation of 3- D pose (position and orientation) of a moving object with reference to the world frame (or robot base frame), based on a sequence of stereo images taken by cameras mounted on the end - effector of a robot manipulator. This work is an extension of the previous work[1]. Emphasis is given to the 3-D pose estimation relative to the world (or robot base) frame under the presence of not only the measurement noise in 2 - D images[ 1] but also the camera position errors due to the random noise involved in joint angles of a robot manipulator. To this end, a new set of discrete linear Kalman filter equations is derived, based on the following: 1) the orientation error of the object frame due to measurement noise in 2 - D images is modeled with reference to the camera frame by analyzing the noise propagation through 3- D reconstruction; 2) an extended Jacobian matrix is formulated by combining the result of 1) and the orientation error of the end-effector frame due to joint angle errors through robot differential kinematics; and 3) the rotational motion of an object, which is nonlinear in nature, is linearized based on quaternions. Motion parameters are computed from the estimated quaternions based on the iterated least-squares method. Simulation results show the significant reduction of estimation errors and also demonstrate an accurate convergence of the actual motion parameters to the true values.

  • In seismic reflection data processing, the crossdip correction effectively focuses the stacking energy near the sharp bends of a crooked survey line. Additionally, approximate 3-D information on the reflector (e.g., true crossdip angle and lateral continuity) are locally investigated as a by-product of the crossdip correction procedure. Improvement of the signal-to-noise ratio and estimation of reflector crossdip attitude are tested, in terms of both common midpoint bin direction and processing-line type, using synthetic seismic reflection data. To effectively image the reflection energy near bends in seismic survey lines, straight-line binning is preferred to slalom-line binning.

  • An X-band microwave photonic (MWP) filter using switch-based fiber-optic delay lines has been proposed and experimentally demonstrated. It is composed of two electro-optic modulators (EOMs) and $2{\times}2$ optical MEMS-switch-based fiber-optic delay lines. By changing time-delay difference and coefficients of each wavelength signal by using fiber-optic delay lines and an electro-optic modulator, respectively, a bandpass filter or a notch filter can be implemented. For an X-band MWP filter with four channel elements, fiber-optic delay lines with the unit time-delay of 50 ps have been experimentally realized and the frequency responses corresponding to the time-delays has been measured. The measured frequency response error at center frequency and the time-delay difference error were 180 MHz at 10 GHz and 3.2 ps, respectively, when the fiber-optic delay line has the time-delay difference of 50 ps.

  • Based on the shear failure mechanism, hydraulic fracturing criteria are extended to three dimensional stress state. According to the situation of the directions of borehole and major principal stress axes, three equations can be derived for three dimensional hydraulic fracturing problems. By comparing these equations, a single criterion is selected for hydraulic fracturing pressure in cohesive soils. The criterion is a function of maximum principal stress, minimum principal stress and soil parameters in UU conditions. The equation indicates that with any increase in maximim principal stress, hydraulic fracturing pressure decreases. In order to prove the integrity of the criteria, laboratory tests are performed on compacted cubical specimens using true a triaxial apparatus. The shape and direction of fractures are determined by injecting colored water after fracture initiation. It is found that the direction of fractures are perpendicular to the o1 plane.
