A fungal survey that targeted the tribe Arachnopezizeae (Hyaloscyphaceae, Helotiales) was conducted in Korea. One variety belonging to Proliferodiscus and one species belonging to Rodwayella are recorded for the first time from Korea. Proliferodiscus inspersus var. magniascus differs from P. earoleucus by its amyloid reaction in ascal apices and larger asci. Rodwayella citrinula is distinguished from other members of the genus by small ascospores and its occurrence on grasses. The descriptions, illustrations and cultural characteristics of the species are provided.

Thirty-six species of the tribe Tortricini (Tortricidae) in Northeast China are listed with available information. Among them, two species, Acleris hastina (Linnaeus) and A. laiordairana (Duponchel), are reported for the first time from China. Croesia crataegi (Kuznetsov) is newly recorded from Northeast China. Available information, including host plant, distributional range, and biological record, are enumerated.

The fly genus Orchisia Rondani belonging to the tribe Coenosiini of the family Muscidae, known to be distributed throughout old world, is newly recorded in Korean fauna, along with the type species O. costata (Meigen, 1826). This genus has been known to include only two species, O. costata and O. subcostata Cui, Xue et Liu, 1995. These flies can be readily distinguished by the other related taxa of the tribe Coenosiini in having prominent color pattern on wings. The Korean population has been observed on the grass vegetation at marsh area. Photographs of external features and male genitalic characters are provide.

Totem culture is a basic culture in all countries. A totem is any supposed entity that watches over or assists a group of people,such as a family,clan,or tribe.(Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary and Webster's New World College Dictionary, Fourth Edition).Totems support larger groups than an individual person. In kinship and descent,if the apical ancestor of a clan is nonhuman,it is called a totem. Normally this belief is accompanied by a totemic myth. And for the ages past,many totems for family. clan and tribe merged in one or two which comes to be a totem culture. We can know many things from the totem of our Ancestors.

Atimia nadezhdae Tsherepanov which belongs to tribe Atimiini LeConte (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae: Aseminae) is recognized in Korea for the first time. Diagnosis and photographs of adult and male genitalia of the species are provided herein.

Two popular ethnomedicines of the Onge, a Negrito tribe of Andaman Islands, were evaluated for analgesic and antiinflammatory activity. The methanol extract as well as the different fractions of methanol extract of both Alstonia macrophylla and Mallotus peltatus leaves were studied using Swiss albino mice and Wistar albino rats. Acetic acid induced writhing, Tail flick and Tail immersion; Carrageenin- and Dextran-induced paw oedema tests were used. Dose-dependent analgesic and antiinflammatory activity were demonstrated for both methanol leaf extracts as well as fractions. Results were highly comparable with that of the standard drug pethidine.

Seven species of the tribe Olethreutini belonging to the family Tortricidae are reported for the first time from Korea with their brief redescriptions and illusrations: Apotomis inundana ([Denis et Schiffermuller]), Eudemopsis tokui brief redescriptions tokui Kawabe, Hedya tsushimanensis Kawabe, Hedya vixinana (Regonot), Hystrichosolus spathanum Walsingham, Olethreutes lacunana ([Denis et Schiffermuller]), and Pristerognatha penthiana (Guenee).

The basic principles of tribo-systems and study method based on tribe-systems are introduced in the paper, Based on the viewpoint of tribe-systems, the experiment on tribology characteristics of friction lining material in multi-rope friction hoist is carried out. The research result shows: tribology characteristics of friction material are not its inherent characteristic but system characteristics of the tribo-systems, the“sliding-rope”of multi-rope friction hoist can be divided into“safety sliding-rope”and“fault sliding-rope”, study on friction material only based on characteristic of system where friction material exists possesses practical significance.

In the present paper, Genus Habronyx Foerster, Genus Habronyx Foerster, Genus Therion Curtis and Genus Heteropelma Wesmael of tribe Theriini were studied by using scanning electron microscope. The authors tried to find out distinct new characters for those genera because tribe Theriini was very similiar to each other. Ten species are recognized, of which Habronyx (Camposcopus) sonani (Uchida), 1958 is newly recorded from Korea.
