Liquefaction phenomenon refers to a phenomenon in which excess pore water pressure occurs when a dynamic load such as an earthquake is rapidly applied to a loose sandy soil ground where the ground is saturated, and the ground loses effective stress and becomes liquid. The laboratory repetition test for liquefaction evaluation can be performed through a repeated triaxial compression test and a repeated shear test. In this regard, this study attempted to evaluate the effects of the relative density of sand on the liquefaction resistance strength according to particle size distribution using repeated triaxial compression tests, and additional experimental verification using numerical analysis was conducted to overcome the limitations of experimental equipment. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the liquefaction resistance strength increased as the relative density increased regardless of the classification of soil, and the liquefaction resistance strength of the SP sample close to SW was quite high. As a result of numerical analysis, it was confirmed that the liquefaction resistance strength increased as the confining pressure increased under the same relative density, and the liquefaction resistance strength did not decrease below a certain limit even though the confining pressure was significantly reduced at a relatively low relative density. This is judged to be due to a change in confining pressure according to the depth of the ground. As a result of analyzing the liquefaction resistance strength according to the frequency range, it was confirmed that there was no significant difference from the laboratory experiment results in the basic range of 0.1 to 1.0 Hz.
Knowledge of the failure behavior of friction materials considering their intermediate principal stress is related to an understanding of situations where these materials might be used: for example, the stability of deep-seated boreholes and fault slip analysis. This study designed equipment for physically implementing true triaxial compression and used it to assess specimens of plaster, a friction material. The material's mechanical behaviors are discussed based on the results. The applicability of the 3D failure criteria are also reviewed. The tested specimens were molded cuboids of width, length, and height 52, 52, and 104 mm, respectively. A total of 24 true triaxial compression tests were performed under various combinations of 𝜎3 and 𝜎2 conditions. Conventional uniaxial and triaxial compression tests were employed to estimate the mechanical properties of the plaster for use as parameters for 3D failure criteria. Examining the stress-strain relations of the plaster materials showed that a large difference between the intermediate principal stress and the minimum principal stress indicated strong brittle behavior. The mechanical behavior of the plaster used here reflects the change of intermediate principal stress. Nonlinear multiple regression analysis on the test data in the principal space showed that the modified Wiebols-Cook failure criterion and the modified Lade failure criterion were the most suitable 3D failure criteria for the tested plaster.

The effect of loading speed on soil failure was studied by using a high speed triaxial compression test. Tests were conducted at 0.35-6.2m/s loading speed to compress soil specimens of sandy loam at different moisture contents. The axial stress at fracture increased with increase in loading speed up to certain critical speeds, however they decreased as the speed up to certain critical speeds, however they decreased as the speed increased further. Experiments were also conducted in the field of sandy loam soil with the vibrating tillage tool. Tests were done at 0.33-0.85m/s tractor speed oscillating frequency 13.7hz and oscillating amplitude 59mm. The maximum oscillating velocity of tillage tool was 2.5m/s. It was observed that for the oscillating operation, initially draft slightly increased with increase in forward speed and then it decreased .For the non-oscillating operation, draft increased continuously with increase in forward speed. Approach of studying soil failure in the laboratory test can be related to the field experiments.

Anisotropic behaviour in soils and soft rocks may be either fabric of stress related ultra in practice is invariably a combination of both. Theoretical studies in the paper include tile iMluence oil untrained strength of assuming both the critical state and Mo21r-Coulomb concepts to hold, and the influence of elastic anisotropy oil predicted undrained effective stress paths. The predictions stemming from these theoretical concepts are examined in the light of evidence from triaxial compression and extension tests oil laboratory prepared, compacted and natural clays and from triaxial compression tests on clay shales. The experimental studies also show the Buence of sample orientation on untrained snear strength, as wen as the iIBluence of anisotropy old the effective stress angle cishearing resistance and of stress patn on measured stiffness.

The lower ground of structure, in which the strip loads, such as earth dams and embankments , are signiificantly working on , is required to be interpreted as a state of plane strain where the strain of intermediated principal stress direction is put '0' . The plane strain state is frquently observed in actural soil engineering case. For those case, drained stress-strain and strength behavior of Iksan weathered granite soil prepared in cubical specimens with cross-anisotropic fabric was studied by conventional triaxial compression, plane strain and cubial triaxial tests with independent control of the three principal stress. All specimens were loaded under conditions of principl stress directions fixed and aligned with the directions of the material axes. As a result of research , when a ground condition is analyzed under plane strain state, the shear strength obtained from the conventional triaxial compression test can be understimated.
In ballasted railway tracks, ballast fouling due to finer material intrusion has been identified as a challenging issue in track maintenance works. In this research, deformation characteristics of crushed stone-sand mixtures, simulating fresh and fouled ballasts were studied from laboratory and a 3-D discrete element method (DEM) triaxial compression tests. The DEM simulation was performed using a recently developed DEM approach, named, Yet Another Dynamic Engine (YADE). First, void ratio characteristics of crushed stone-sand mixtures were studied. Then, triaxial compression tests were conducted on specimens with 80 and 50% of relative densities simulating dense and loose states respectively. Initial DEM simulations were conducted using sphere particles. As stress-strain behaviour of crushed stone-sand mixtures evaluated by sphere particles were different from laboratory specimens, in next DEM simulations, the particles were modeled by a clump particle. The clump shape was selected using shape indexes of the actual particles evaluated by an image analysis. It was observed that the packing behaviour of laboratory crushed stone-sand mixtures were matched well with the DEM simulation with clump particles. The results also showed that the strength properties of crushed stone deteriorate when they are mixed by 30% or more of sand, specially under dense state. The results also showed that clump particles give closer stress-strain behaviour to laboratory specimens than sphere particles.

The Repeated Load Triaxial and Oedometer Tests to the weathered granite & silty clay soil have been fulfilled to investigate their dynarnic characteristics. The results obtained are summarized as follows ; 1. In the relation between the repeated triaxial compression and the oedometer test, the recoverable strain of weathered granite soil showed a tendency to decrease by the increase of the repeated loads number(N), and that of silty clay showed approximately constant values while the total strain increased continuously. 2. The changes of plastic strain was dependent to the level of deviator stress which is the most important element in the calculation of soil deformation under repeated load condition. And there was a significance of 10% between the level of stress and plastic strain. 3. When the soil was aimost dried or saturated to 100%, the deformation by the repeated loads was small. However the deformation showed peak around the saturation of 50%. 4. When the deformation was predicted by the repeated triaxial load tests of a laboratory, it is desirable to introduce the threshold stress concept in the calculation of deformation of subgrade of the pavement. 5. The improved design equation (Eq. 16) introducing the modulus of conversion(Fo), which is based on the Boussineq' s theory, is considered to be rational in the design of flexible pavement. From the above results, the deformation to the repeated traffic loads could be predicted by the repeated triaxial tests on the pavement materials or undisturbed soil layers, therefore it is think that the durable and econornic pavement could be constructed by reflecting that to the design.
Until recently the other attempts except linear elastic analysis using assumed elastic modulus had not been made in order to evaluate the settlement of the rock fill materials in Korea. Especially, it was almost impossible to predict the precise settlement of the breakwater structure made with dumped rubble stone. In this study, 3 sets of large scaled triaxial compression tests for porous basaltic quarry rocks were carried out and numerical simulation of those triaxial compression tests were performed applying non linear elastic model. Two stress-strain behaviors were compared to study the adaptability of hyperbolic constitutive model for the rubble stone. The results showed quite good agreements between the two stress-strain behaviors. Thus, the hyperbolic constitutive model is thought to be alternative approach evaluate the settlements of the loose rock-fill material.

The strength parameters of two different type of disturbed weathered soils were investigated by the triaxial tests in this study. Soil samples include granite soils from two different sites and non-granite soils from six sampling sites. The results of this study indicate that the triaxial tests could be employed for determining the strength parameters for disturbed soil samples. When additional parameters are obtained by further experiments, they could be utilized in various engineering design practices.
A series of drained cubical triaxial tests was performed to investigate the finfluence of the intermediate principal stress on the deformation and strength characteristics of sand. Test results showed that the strength of sand as represented by the friction angle increased from triaxial compression condition (b:0) with increasing magnitude of the intermediate principal stress until the vus of b reached 0.75, land it decreased slightly with closing to b= 1. Also it was found that the projection of the plastic strain increment vector on the octahedral plane was perpendicular to the trace of the failure surface on that plane. The prediction by the isotropic single hardening model sllowed good coinidence with experimental results.
