  • We represent a method of 3-D object recognition using multi images in this paper. The recognition process is executed as follows. Object models as prior knowledgement are generated and stored on a computer. To extract features of a recognized object, three CCD cameras are set at vertices of a regular triangle and take images of an object to be recognized. By comparing extracted features with generated models, the object is recognized. In general, it is difficult to recognize 3-D objects because there are the following problems such as how to make the correspondence to both stereo images, generate and store an object model according to a recognition process, and effectively collate information gotten from input images. We resolve these problems using the method that the collation on the basis of features independent on the viewpoint, the generation of object models as enumerating some candidate models in an early recognition level, the execution a tight cooperative process among results gained by analyzing each image. We have made experiments based on real images in which polyhedral objects are used as objects to be recognized. Some of results reveal the usefulness of the proposed method.

  • Given an unstructured point set, we use an MLS (melting least-squares) approximation to estimate the local curvatures and their derivatives at a point by means of an approximation surface Then, we compute neighbor information using a Delaunay tessellation. feature points can then be detected as zero-crossings, and connected using curvature directions. Also this approach has a fast computation time than previous methods, which based on triangle meshes. We demonstrate our method on several large point-sampled models, rendered by point-splatting, on which the feature lines are rendered with line width determined from curvatures.

  • As one of solutions to obtain efficient use of limited spectrum resource, we suggest a methodology for the co-channel multi-site radar operations with a shifted linear frequency modulation (SLFM) based on GPS clock. The proposed algorithm is that we find a candidate set of SLFM signals with the minimum acceptable level of the correlation from the cross-correlation characteristics among selected SLFM signals. To verify the proposed methodology, numerical analysis has been accomplished for several radars operating in the same channel with a sawtooth or triangle LFM signal. The computational results of detected distances as well as range profiles are also examined for interference, noise, and algorithm limitation including the error of clock synchronization.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the window display in the department stores in Daejeon. The framework of execution, colors, illumination, and kinds and colon of mannequins of the window display in four department stores in Daejeon were analyzed based on the photographs of displays from January to October in 2001. The results were as follows: First, in the framework of execution, each department store used mostly the triangle-framework during four seasons, which was a fundamental framework. Its characteristics were a sense of security, three-dimensional effect, and balance. It was the most suitable framework fur the mannequins and toruso. Second, a color scheme for commodities was all no-coloring scheme in each four seasons. The color of background was mostly white which harmonized well with the colors of commodities and lights. The plan for the color scheme of window display should always executed on the commodities, and the colors should be harmonized to produce the best display effect. Moreover, when commodities had two colors, the color of background should be in one simple color that manifest the commodities, or that is secondary color to the main color of commodities. Third, all department stores used all same illumination. Lack of illumination, management, and expense incured ineffective production of the display. Fourth, mostly, real mannequins with white or skin colors were used, and the toruso was next used in department stores. The set was limited because many companies had not made new sets for the display. Therefore, new sets including mannequins should be actively developed to produce effective display.

  • This work considers the elliptic restricted three-body problem under effects of radiation of the bigger primary, and an oblate spheroid for the smaller primary to mimic an exoplanetary system with a gas giant planet. Under the influences of both effects we look for the existence of the triangular equilibrium points and the influences of the radiation and oblateness on the locations and motion of the points. We set the system in a normalized rotating coordinate system and derive equations of motion for the third infinitesimal object. Our study shows that the effects modify the equilateral/isosceles triangle shape with respect to the primaries. The triangular points also have non-planar motion with period depending on the value of the planet oblateness.

  • We introduce a new method for constructing a dynamic Delaunay triangulation for a set S of n sites in the plane under the $L_{\infty}(L_1)$ metric. We find that the quadrant neighbor graph is contained in the Delaunay triangluation and that at least one edge of each triangle in the Delaunay triangulation is contained in the quadrant neighbor graph. By using these observations and employing a range tree scheme, we present a method that dynamically maintains the $L_{\infty}(L_1)$ Delaunay triangulation under insertions and deletions in $O(log^2n)$ amortized time and O(log n) expected time.

  • High-rise buildings are widely being constructed in the Middle-East, South-East, and East Asia. These buildings are usually willing to stand for the landmark of the region and, therefore, exhibit some extraordinary features such as super-tall height, elevation set-backs, overhangs, or free-form exterior surface, all of which makes the construction difficult, complex, and even unsafe at some construction stages. In addition to the elaborately planned construction sequence, prediction and monitoring of building's movement during construction and after completion are required for precise and safe construction. This is often called the Building Movement Control during construction. This study describes Building Movement Control of the KLCC Tower, a 58-story office building currently being built right next to the famous PETRONAS Twin Towers. The main items of the Building Movement Control for the KLCC Tower are axial shortening and verticality. Preliminary prediction of these items are already carried out by the structural design team but more accurate prediction based on construction stage analysis and combined with time-dependent material testing, field monitoring, and site survey is done by the main contractor. As of September 2010, the Tower is under construction at level 30, where the plan abruptly changes from rectangle to triangle. Findings and troubleshooting until the current construction stage are explained in detail and implementations are suggested for future applications.

  • Two experiments were performed to test whether the perception of subjective contours occurs not only through bottom-up processes but also throught top-down processes by manipilating such cognitive factors as superimposition cues and selective attention. In the first experiment, the phenomenon of neon color spreading effect was used to investigate the effect of superimpoed Kanizsa triangles. To identify the effect of superimposition, two different colors were used, one for each overlapped Kanizsa triangle, and the subjects were asked which neon-like color they saw for the overlapped portion.Result indicates that the only neon-like color of the superimposing triangle can be perceived, which implies that super impostition cues may act upon the formation process of subjective contour as a a sort of top-down information. In the second experiment, two partially ovwelapped Kanizsa squares of which direction of superimposition were ambiguous and thus reversable depending on the observer's mental set were used to inverstigate the effect of selective attention.Subjects were instructed to pay attention only to one of the squares and report the neon- like color of the overlapped portion of them.Result shows that the subjects perceive only the neon-like color of superimposing square, which implies that such cognitive factors as selective attention may strongly influence the formation of subjective contours. In conclusion, the results of this study show that the subective contour does not depend only on bottom-up processes but also on such cognitive factors as super-imposition cues and selective attention.

  • Mapping of artificial levee lines, one of major tasks in river zone mapping, is critical to prevention of river flood, protection of environments and eco systems in river zones. Thus, mapping of artificial levee lines is essential for management and development of river zones. Coastal mapping including river zone mapping has been historically carried out using surveying technologies. Photogrammetry, one of the surveying technologies, is recently used technology for national river zone mapping in Korea. Airborne laser scanning has been used in most advanced countries for coastal mapping due to its ability to penetrate shallow water and its high vertical accuracy. Due to these advantages, use of LiDAR data in coastal mapping is efficient for monitoring and predicting significant topographic change in river zones. This paper introduces a method for construction of a 3D artificial levee line using a set of LiDAR points that uses normal vectors. Multiple steps are involved in this method. First, a 2.5-dimensional Delaunay triangle mesh is generated based on three nearest-neighbor points in the LiDAR data. Second, a median filtering is applied to minimize noise. Third, edge selection algorithms are applied to extract break edges from a Delaunay triangle mesh using two normal vectors. In this research, two methods for edge selection algorithms using hypothesis testing are used to extract break edges. Fourth, intersection edges which are extracted using both methods at the same range are selected as the intersection edge group. Fifth, among intersection edge group, some linear feature edges which are not suitable to compose a levee line are removed as much as possible considering vertical distance, slope and connectivity of an edge. Sixth, with all line segments which are suitable to constitute a levee line, one river levee line segment is connected to another river levee line segment with the end points of both river levee line segments located nearest horizontally and vertically to each other. After linkage of all the river levee line segments, the initial river levee line is generated. Since the initial river levee line consists of the LiDAR points, the pattern of the initial river levee line is being zigzag along the river levee. Thus, for the last step, a algorithm for smoothing the initial river levee line is applied to fit the initial river levee line into the reference line, and the final 3D river levee line is constructed. After the algorithm is completed, the proposed algorithm is applied to construct the 3D river levee line in Zng-San levee nearby Ham-Ahn Bo in Nak-Dong river. Statistical results show that the constructed river levee line generated using a proposed method has high accuracy in comparison to the ground truth. This paper shows that use of LiDAR data for construction of the 3D river levee line for river zone mapping is useful and efficient; and, as a result, it can be replaced with ground surveying method for construction of the 3D river levee line.

  • According to the statistics of traffic accidents over recent 5 years, traffic accidents during the night times happened more than the day times. There are various causes to occur traffic accidents and the one of the major causes is inappropriate or missing street lights that make driver's sight confused and causes the traffic accidents. In this paper, with smartphones, we designed and implemented a lane luminance measurement application which stores the information of driver's location, driving, and lane luminance into database in real time to figure out the inappropriate street light facilities and the area that does not have any street lights. This application is implemented under Native C/C++ environment using android NDK and it improves the operation speed than code written in Java or other languages. To measure the luminance of road, the input image with RGB color space is converted to image with YCbCr color space and Y value returns the luminance of road. The application detects the road lane and calculates the road lane luminance into the database sever. Also this application receives the road video image using smart phone's camera and improves the computational cost by allocating the ROI(Region of interest) of input images. The ROI of image is converted to Grayscale image and then applied the canny edge detector to extract the outline of lanes. After that, we applied hough line transform method to achieve the candidated lane group. The both sides of lane is selected by lane detection algorithm that utilizes the gradient of candidated lanes. When the both lanes of road are detected, we set up a triangle area with a height 20 pixels down from intersection of lanes and the luminance of road is estimated from this triangle area. Y value is calculated from the extracted each R, G, B value of pixels in the triangle. The average Y value of pixels is ranged between from 0 to 100 value to inform a luminance of road and each pixel values are represented with color between black and green. We store car location using smartphone's GPS sensor into the database server after analyzing the road lane video image with luminance of road about 60 meters ahead by wireless communication every 10 minutes. We expect that those collected road luminance information can warn drivers about safe driving or effectively improve the renovation plans of road luminance management.
