Purpose: To find an empirical fitting curve to represent the relationship between the luminous transmittance and tinted time in tinted lenses using exponential decay curves. Methods: Total ninety tinted lenses were prepared with CR-39 lenses and six different colored dyes. Single, double and triple exponential decay curves were used as trial curves in order to find the empirical fitting curve. Result: The results showed that the best empirical fitting curve was triple exponential decay curves. Conclusions: We propose triple exponential decay curves as proper empirical fitting curves to represent the tinted-time dependence of the luminous transmittance in tinted lenses.
Purpose: To design and fabricate the auto pattern maker for the development. Methods: we got the necessary data, needed in design, by using CAD. Based on the these data, we fabricated the trial product for the development of the auto pattern maker. Results: The auto pattern maker were composed with combinations of many elements; pattern making assembly, control panel, frame attachment and prober unit. The pattern making assembly was comprised of the cutter, the pattern holder, pattern remover and silence cover which could minimize the sound during the cutting process. The control panel was designed to be connected and operated with the main printed circuit board. The prober could get the eye shape data by scanning of 1.8 degrees around the groove of the frame through the encoding data according to the address. After starting, scanning was carried out in two passes, i.e. one right-handed and one left-handed. Communication connector could send the eye shape data from auto pattern maker to outer system with the RS232C transmission system. By using the one-way analysis of variance, we got the error rate of cut pattern size for ${\Phi}22mm$, ${\Phi}55mm$ and ${\Phi}62mm$. Because F-value was 0.510 and p-value was 0.601, no statistically significant differences were found. Also, the mean cutting error of the auto pattern maker was 0.0274 mm. Conclusions: we could succeed in making the trial product by applying it to the development of the auto pattern maker. The role of this auto pattern maker is to find a exact required size of lens to fit the frame by measuring the frame. The acquired data are transferred to outer system for grinding and finishing with patternless process. Also, the trial product can produce pattern to fit the frame. Therefore, it was confidently expected that the optometrists could handily produce pattern to fit the frame with this trial product and dispense the ophthalmic lens because of its efficiency and convenience compared to the past.
Conclusion: The results of this study are encouraging for the development of a set of interpretable diagnostic criteria for a reasonably reliable identification of some species. The present study has been limited in the characteristics studied and was made on relatively poor photography. Further study on high quality photography, over wider areas and including such additional characteristics as crown texture and shadow intensity should prove useful. A preliminary examination has been made of some photo-image characteristics of a number of important tree species on large scale (1:9,000) contact prints of panchromatic mm. The characteristics studied were crown image tone, and shape. Image tone was estimated against a standard grey-scale and shows within-species consistency and a range between species. Crown shapes were subjectively assessed but there appears to be a within-species consistency and interpretable between-species differences. The results of this trial suggest that it should be practicable to make a number of important species distinctions by photo-interpretation with a useful degree of reliability. Other characteristics beside those studied might be usefully examined. Photography: Hand-printed glossy contact prints of vertical 1:9,000 scale panchromatic photography of Kwangnung Experimental Forest flown May 1964. The filter used is unknown (probably minus-blue). The camera is unknown but was probably a military type K-17 or K-22 with 6"(apostfophy) lens. The photography shows notably poor resolution. Species: 143 individual trees ranging through 11 species (7 softwood, 4 hardwood) were included in the study. A range of size classes were included for each species.

An intraoral spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) system has been developed, using a custom-built hand-held scanner and spectrometer. The hand-held OCT probe, based on a microelectromechanical systems scanner and a self-built miniaturized drive circuit, had a field of view sufficient for dental diagnosis. The spectrometer using a fabricated f-theta lens provided the image depth required for dental diagnosis. The axial and transverse resolutions of the OCT system in air were 7.5 ㎛ and 12 ㎛ respectively. The hand-held probe could scan an area of 10 × 10 mm2, and the spectrometer could image along a depth of 2.5 mm. To verify the utility of the developed OCT system, OCT images of tooth hard and soft tissues were acquired, and a user-interface program for diagnosis was developed. Early caries and microcracks that were difficult to diagnose with existing methods could be found, and the state of restoration could be observed. Measuring the depth of the gingival sulcus, distinguishing subgingival calculus, and detecting an implant under the gingiva suggested the possibility of the SD-OCT system as a diagnostic for dental soft tissues. Through the presented OCT images, the capability of the developed SD-OCT system for dental diagnosis was demonstrated.
Purpose: The study was aimed to suggest the most effective color of the tinted lenses by evaluating the effect of the prescription with tinted lenses on the visual quality of the elderly at the age of the sixty or more. Methods: The visual acuity of fifty subjects at the age of sixty or more (17 males, 33 females with the averaged age of $71.0{\pm}6.3$) were corrected to have the visual acuity at a far distance of 0.5 or more using a trial lens frame, and non-tinted, brown-tinted, and gray-tinted lenses were randomly applied on the trial frame. The minimum legibility and minimum separability were measured at a far distance in the aspect of the visual acuity and calculated as LogMAR and then, the visual acuity was compared. The stereopsis and contrast sensitivity were also estimated at a near distance in the aspect of the visual function. The participants' preference for tinted lenses and their subjective symptoms of the visual perception and the movement were further surveyed. Results: The best minimum legibility and minimum separability was shown when wearing non-tinted lenses, and brown-tinted and gray-tinted lenses were in the next. The stereopsis and the contrast sensitivity at a near distance and the visual perception was the best when wearing brown-tinted lenses. It was surveyed that the subjective discomfort was the biggest when wearing gray-tinted lenses, and brown-tinted lenses were the best in the aspect of the subjective preference. Conclusions: As the result of this study, it was revealed that the visual acuity and visual function could be improved by the use of tinted ophthalmic lenses however, its change of visual acuity and visual function was not completely correlated with the subjective satisfaction. Therefore, the appropriate color of ophthalmic lenses should be selected in accordance with the individual visual perception and the main vision lifestyle in the elderly generation. From the present study, the use of non- or brown-tinted lens and brown- or gray-tinted lens can be recommended for distance work and near work, respectively, in the elderly generation under the illumination of about 1,000 lux.

To investigate accuracy of graduated scale of schematic retinoscope training eye(schematic eye) and induced effect when measured at off-axis from visual axis. Two skilled retinoscopist measured refractive power using retinoscope in random order. Seven schematic eyes from a single manufacturer were recruited and set to mark +4.00 to -6 diopter(+4, +3, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2, -3, -4, -5, -6). After introducing +2.00 diopter trial lens(50cm working lens), neutral distance was measured at 180 degree to estimate accuracy of scale, and refractive power measured at 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 degree off-axis to see if any error was induced. According to the results measured by two specialists, in six of seven schematic eye, scale setting varied (p<0.05) and measured refractive power at 5, 10, 15 and 20 degree off-axis from visual axis were $-0.13{\pm}0.06$, $-0.29{\pm}0.06$, $-0.58{\pm}0.11$, and $-0.83{\pm}0.16$ diopter respectively. In some schematic eye, scale graduated on the schematic eye and scale measured by retinoscopy could be different and if retinoscopy is performed off-axis from visual axis, any measuring error can be caused.

Protein deposit buildup on soft contact lenses(SCLs) is responsible for discomfort, optical defects and is even damaging to the eye. To better understand protein deposit formation on SCL, we investigated the pattern of protein attachment on patient-worn SCLs and the effect of the protein on the contact angle of SCLs and the transmission of visible light. This study used data from a clinical trial where subjects wore either daily-wear SCL(etafilcon A, N=40) for various period up to 14 days, or extended-wear SCL(balafilcon A, N=40) for 8 h day or night. The adsorption of protein in daily-wear SCLs was significantly increased in patient-worn time-dependent manner although the lenses were cleaned everyday by using the multi-purpose SCL solution. After 2 weeks wearing, the protein on the SCL influenced the contact angle of the lenses. Furthermore, the transmission of visible light of the lenses decreased up to almost 7%. Extended-wear SCLs worn during the closed eye condition were found to deposit significantly more protein than SCLs worn during the open eye condition. The amounts of protein adsorbed both after daily SCL wear and after overnight SCL wear were not affected the contact angle and the transmission of visible light of the lenses. The protein deposit buildup on SCL related to the corneal temperature and pH of tear fluid.
In the present study, we apply the multiple cue probability learning (MCPL) paradigm to examine consumer learning from feedback in repeated trials. This paradigm is useful in investigating consumer learning, especially learning the relationships between the overall quality and attributes. With this paradigm, we can analyze what people learn from repeated trials by using the lens model, i.e., whether it is knowledge or consistency. In addition to introducing this paradigm, we aim to demonstrate that knowledge people gain from repeated trials with feedback is robust enough to weaken one of the most often examined contextual effects, the asymmetric dominance effect. The experiment consists of learning session and a choice task and stimuli are sport rafting boats with motor engines. During the learning session, the participants are shown an option with three attributes and are asked to evaluate its overall quality and type in a number between 0 and 100. Then an expert's evaluation, a number between 0 and 100, is provided as feedback. This trial is repeated fifteen times with different sets of attributes, which comprises one learning session. Depending on the conditions, the participants do one (low) or three (high) learning sessions or do not go through any learning session (no learning). After learning session, the participants then are provided with either a core or an extended choice set to make a choice to examine if learning from feedback would weaken the asymmetric dominance effect. The experiment uses a between-subjects experimental design (2 × 3; core set vs. extended set; no vs. low vs. high learning). The results show that the participants evaluate the overall qualities more accurately with learning. They learn the true trade-off rule between attributes (increase in knowledge) and become more consistent in their evaluations. Regarding the choice task, there is a significant decrease in the percentage of choosing the target option in the extended sets with learning, which clearly demonstrates that learning decreases the magnitude of the asymmetric dominance effect. However, these results are significant only when no learning condition is compared either to low or high learning condition. There is no significant result between low and high learning conditions, which may be due to fatigue or reflect the characteristics of learning curve. The present study introduces the MCPL paradigm in examining consumer learning and demonstrates that learning from feedback increases both knowledge and consistency and weakens the asymmetric dominance effect. The latter result may suggest that the previous demonstrations of the asymmetric dominance effect are somewhat exaggerated. In a single choice setting, people do not have enough information or experience about the stimuli, which may lead them to depend mostly on the contextual structure among options. In the future, more realistic stimuli and real experts' judgments can be used to increase the external validity of study results. In addition, consumers often learn through repeated choices in real consumer settings. Therefore, what consumers learn from feedback in repeated choices would be an interesting topic to investigate.

Purpose: To emphasize the necessity of post-fitting by follow-up test, the mis-alignment was analyzed after initial wearing of toric soft contact lenses (TSCL). Methods: After trial contact lenses were worn to 87 eyes with myopic astigmatism for 1 week, we observed the alignment of axis mark on trial contact lenses using slit lamp and corrected the rotated axis by method of LARS. After final fitting, rotation ratio, rotation degree and rotation position were analyzed compared to initial prescription divided to amount of cylinderical and spherical powers. Results: Rotation ratio of TSCL's axis was increased as increment of both cylinderical powers and (-)spherical powers. An average of rotation degree was $10^{\circ}{\sim}13^{\circ}$ which was not related to amount of their powers. Rotation position of TSCL's axis was more to temporal than to nasal. Conclusions: Because mis-alignment of axis after TSCL wearing induce the poor sight, adjustment of axial alignment as a result of follow-up must be performed.

To investigate the manual procedure for custom fitting of ocular prosthesis and the cytotoxicity induced by extract solution of prosthetic eye, this study was performed. These procedures included the trial fitting of the wax model, impression molding, the an of iris color duplication, sclera mold made from the prosthetic wax model, scleral tints and vascular pattern, finishing and polishing. Inhibition of cell growth for extract solution was measured by MTT assay. Extract solution did not show the cytotoxicity. This study suggests that the manual procedure for custom fitting of ocular prosthesis is good for education of students.
