  • In garment manufacturing process, making a prototype of a product is a preceding part ahead of mass production. However, it takes up a lot of trial and error, let alone the expense in the past manufacturing system. In this paper we introduce the process which can replace the past one with using recently developed computer graphics technique. We also demonstrate this method is valid on a variety of clothes compared to the real experiments. In this process, a designer can make a garment, simulate it in 3D computer system, and easily fix the problems before finalizing a prototype.

  • In this paper, we propose an equalizer to minimize the inter-symbol interference when PSSK(Phase Silence Shift Keying) technique is applied to the low power underwater acoustic communication. PSSK is a QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) modulation combined with PPM(Pulse Position Modulation), and it was proposed for low power communication. However, it has poor performance due to delay spread of underwater channel. In this paper, we propose a decision feedback equalizer to minimize the error in PSSK receiver. The sea trial was performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. In the result, the BER of PSSK was $4.36{\times}10^{-2}$ before the equalizer was applied, but the BER of PSSK was $3.95{\times}10^{-4}$ after the proposed equalizer was applied.

  • The transfer matrix method is well-known and extensively used for finding solutions in vibration problems. At the final stage of this method natural frequencies are obtained by a trial and error search procedure. In this paper authors presented the method which needed only a few division number to yield an accurate solution and the most effective method to get an approximate solution in the case of beam vibrations. The methods which were presented by authors could be applied for the beam with nonuniform section and uniformly distributed load, and the values of numerical calculations by these methods have just agreed with those of experiments.

  • We propose the row method that is able to consider the SAR compliance test from the very beginning step of developing the mobile phone. The reason this new method is plausible is that we adopt the certified FDTD for the reliability of calculation, utilizing 1 mm high resolution model that is to model the phantom and the mobile phone almost identically to the reality. In this paper we introduce the process that will apply the proposed method in order to reduce the SAR of the mobile phone that has been problematic in satisfying the SAR compliance test. It results in dropping in the SAR that we keep the mobile phone or its antenna while we use it. Therefore here we make a claim as fellows. When we develop the new mobile phone, we should use the computer simulation combining the CAD design and radiation pattern rather than make a prototype and then use the trial and error method. Moreover the former way leads us to boost up the developing efficiency and reduce the cost.

  • In this paper, we design an optimal model following ${\mu}-$synthesis control system for fuel-injection of diesel engine which has robust performance and satisfactory command tracking performance in spite of uncertainties of the system. To do this, we give gain and dynamics parameters to the weighting functions and apply genetic algorithm with reference model to the optimal determination of the weighting functions that are given by the D-K iteration method which can design ${\mu}-$synthesis controller in the state space. These weighting functions are optimized simultaneously in the search domain which guarantees the robust performance of the system. The ${\mu}-$synthesis control system for fuel-injection designed by the above method has not only the robust performance but also a better command tracking performance than those of the ${\mu}-$synthesis control system designed by trial-and-error method. The effectiveness of this ${\mu}-$synthesis control system for fuel-injection is verified by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, a trial-error based method is presented to calibrate added mass models through numerical iterations minimizing the difference between the measured frequency data and its numerical simulation result for a dam floodgate. Earthquake analysis of the real floodgate for which the on-site hammering vibration test is performed show that the classical Westergaard added mass model gives relatively larger values in the maximum earthquake force and the maximum total displacement than the present added mass model, based on the calibration of on-site measurement data.

  • This paper provides a methodology for extracting design data from the three-dimensional design software SolidWorks$^{(R)}$, which is based on the existing trochoid pump design equations that are used by hydraulic field engineers. The data extracted from the SolidWorks$^{(R)}$ model are input to a hydraulic analysis software AMESim model to determine the design factors that can influence the properties of a trochoid pump. On the basis of the simulation results, this paper proposes a method to reduce the flow loss by adjusting the outlet angle of the trochoid pump. This proposal was verified by using actual experimental results, which confirmed that adjusting the outlet angle can increase the flow rate. Hence, the results presented in this paper can contribute to the prototyping of a trochoid pump by reducing the cost associated with a trial-and-error design.

  • The storm surge is caused by an typhoons and it is not easy to predict the location, strength, route of the storm. Therefore, research using a scenario for storms occurrence has been conducted. In Korea, hazard maps for various scenarios were produced using the storm surge numerical simulation. Such a method has a disadvantage in that it is difficult to predict when other scenario occurs, and it is difficult to cope with in real time because the simulation time is long. In order to compensate for this, we developed a method to predict the storm surge damage by using research database. The risk grade prediction for the storm surge was performed predominantly in the study area of the East coast. In order to estimate the equation, COMSOL developed by COMSOL AB Corporation was utilized. Using some assumptions and limitations, the form of the basic equation was derived. the constants and coefficients in the equation were estimated by the trial and error method. Compared with the results, the spatial distribution of risk grade was similar except for the upper part of the map. In the case of the upper part of the map, it was shown that the resistance coefficient, k was calculated due to absence of elevation data. The SIND model is a method for real-time disaster prediction model and it is expected that it will be able to respond quickly to disasters caused by abnormal weather.

  • For water quality management, it is necessary to continuously improve the forecasting by analyzing the past water quality, and a Data-driven model is emerging as an alternative. Because the Data-driven model is built based on a wide range of data, it is essential to apply the correlation analysis method for the combination of input variables to obtain more reliable results. In this study, the Gamma Test was applied as a preceding step to build a faster and more accurate data-driven water quality prediction model. First, a physical-based model (HSPF, EFDC) was operated to produce daily water quality reflecting the complexity of the watershed according to various hydrological conditions for Paldang Dam. The Gamma Test was performed on the water quality at the water quality prediction site (Paldangdam2) and major rivers flowing into the Paldang Dam, and the method of selecting the optimal input data combination was presented through the analysis results (Gamma, Gradient, Standar Error, V-Ratio). As a result of the study, the selection criteria for a more efficient combination of input data that can save time by omitting trial and error when building a data-driven model are presented.

  • The stewart platform manipulator proposed by stewart is the parallel manipulator which is composed of several independent actuators connecting the upper plate with the base plate and capable of executing a six degree of freedom motion. The manipulator has a structure of a closed loop form, and provides better load-to-weight ratio and ratio and rigidity than a serial manipulator with an open loop form. Moreover, the manipulator has high positional accuracy because position errors of actuators are not additive. Because of these advantages, this manipulator is widely used in many engineering applications such as a driving simulator, a tool of machining center, a force/torque sensor and so on. When this Stewart platform manipulator is controlled in joint space, it is difficult to design a controller using an analytic method due to nonhnearity and unknown parameters of actuators. Therefore, a PID controller is often used because of easiness in applications. To find the PID control gain, a trial-and-error method is generally used. This method is time-consuming, and does not guarantee a optimal gain. Thus, this paper proposes a GA-PID controller which selects an optimal PID control gain using genetic algorithms. And this proposed controller is evaluated experimentally and shows acceptable performance.
