  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the phenomena of the thermally-induced vibration for the flexible space structure due to abrupt change of radiation heating circumstance using the numerical analyze and experiment test. In order to verify this structure, numerical approaches on the simplified flexible tube were compared with experimental test results at the ground experimental facility. In this analyze, it was found that the thermal deformation occurs firstly due to fast radiation heating of flexible structure and then the thermally-induced vibration would be induced due to small periodic change of temperature. According to comparison of numerical and experimental results, in case of no tip mass, the first mode vibration by the numerical analyze was a.78Hz same as that of the experimental result. However in case of increase tip-masses of 8g, 16g, 50g and 100g, the first modes vibration theoretical analyze were 1.75Hz, I.3Hz, a.87Hz and 0.73Hz, in decrease trend respectively and those by experimental test were 2.34Hz, 1.5Hz, 0.78Hz and 0.78Hz in decrease trend respectively. Although using the simpled equation for the estimation, the estimation results were similar to experimental results.

  • The NOx emission characteristics of C$H_4$-Air coflow jet flames were numerically and experimentally investigated. NOx was measured using a chemiluminescent detection and calculated by the parabolic -type equation solver with a detatiled NOx chemistry. The fuel flow rate( $Q_{F}$), the diameter of mixture nozzle and the equivalence rate(Ф) were varied to discuss the EINOx of each flames at the various combustion conditions. The NOx emission index(EINOx) was introduced to quantify the NOx emission from the parametrically varied flames. The results show that Prompt EINOx increases on a logarithmic profile with increasing ${\Phi}$ and keeps nearly constant for the variation of $Q_{F}$. Thermal EINOx reaches the maximum value at around ${\Phi}$ =1.5 and then slowly decrease for ${\Phi}$ >1.5. In addition, Thermal EINOx increases with increasing $Q_{F}$, but nearly indifferent to the variation of the mixture nozzle diameter. Total EINOx also shows a peak at around ${\Phi}$ =1.5, followed by a relatively sharp decrease for 1.5< ${\Phi}$ <2.5 and increase slowly for 2.5 < ${\Phi}$ < $\infty$ The present Total EINOx trend is well explained by a combination of above Thermal and Prompt EINOx trend with the variation of ${\Phi}$ n of ${\Phi}$.

  • This paper proposes a method for measuring fine dust concentration through digital processing of images captured by only existing CCTVs without additional equipment. This image processing algorithm consists of noise reduction, edge sharpening, ROI setting, edge strength calculation, and correction through HSV conversion. This algorithm is implemented using the C ++ OpenCV library. The algorithm was applied to CCTV images captured over a month. The edge strength values calculated for the ROI region are found to be closely related to the fine dust concentration data. To infer the correlation between the two types fo data, a trend line in the form of a power equation is established using MATLAB. The number of data points deviating from the trend line accounts for around 12.5%. Therefore, the overall accuracy is about 87.5%.

  • In this study, 16 test blastings had been carried out with different spacings, burdens, drilling lengths, and charges per delay for investigating the characteristics of ground vibration propagation, which depends on the delay time. From the tests, it was possible to derive a ground vibration equation. Using the equation, the characteristics of ground vibration could be investigated by analyzing the nomogram and predicting the Peak Particle Velocity (PPV), which are influenced by the delay time and the priming location. The trend of ground vibration change depending on the delay time was analyzed for the standards charges of 0.5, 1.6, 5, and 15 kg, which were suggested in "Blasting design and construction guidelines to road construction" by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. From the study, it would be possible to suggest a favorable vibration control method, which depends on the charge.

  • Bioremediation, which uses microbes to degrade most organic pollutants in soil and groundwater, can be used in solving environmental issues in various polluted sites. In this research, a wind-driven bioventing system is built to degrade about 20,000 mg/kg of high concentration diesel pollutants in soil-pollution mode. The wind-driven bioventing test was proceeded by the bioaugmentation method, and the indigenous microbes used were Bacillus cereus, Achromobacter xylosoxidans, and Pseudomonas putida. The phenomenon of two-stage diesel degradation of different rates was noted in the test. In order to interpret the results of the mode test, three microbes were used to degrade diesel pollutants of same high concentration in separated aerated batch-mixing vessels. The data derived thereof was input into the Haldane equation and calculated by non-linear regression analysis and trial-and-error methods to establish the kinetic parameters of these three microbes in bioventing diesel degradation. The results show that in the derivation of μm (maximum specific growth rate) in biodegradation kinetics parameters, Ks (half-saturation constant) for diesel substance affinity, and Ki (inhibition coefficient) for the adaptability of high concentration diesel degradation. The Ks is the lowest in the trend of the first stage degradation of Bacillus cereus in a high diesel concentration, whereas Ki is the highest, denoting that Bacillus cereus has the best adaptability in a high diesel concentration and is the most efficient in diesel substance affinity. All three microbes have a degradation rate of over 50% with regards to Pristane and Phytane, which are branched alkanes and the most important biological markers.

  • For large-scale 5MW offshore wind turbines, the discrete equation of fluid domain and the motion equation of structural domain with geometric nonlinearity were built, the three-dimensional modeling of the blade considering fluid-structure interaction (FSI) was achieved by using Unigraphics (UG) and Geometry modules, and the numerical simulation and the analysis of the vibration characteristics for wind turbine structure under rotating effect were carried out based on ANSYS software. The results indicate that the rotating effect has an apparent effect on displacement and Von Mises stress, and the response and the distribution of displacement and Von Mises stress for the blade in direction of wingspan increase nonlinearly with the equal increase of rotational speeds. Compared with the single blade model, the blade vibration period of the whole machine model is much longer. The structural coupling effect reduces the response peak value of the blade displacement and Von Mises stress, and the increase of rotational speed enhances this coupling effect. The maximum displacement difference between two models decreases first and then increases along wingspan direction, the trend is more visible with the equal increase of rotational speed, and the boundary point with zero displacement difference moves towards the blade root. Furthermore, the Von Mises stress difference increases gradually with the increase of rotational speed and decreases nonlinearly from the blade middle to both sides. The results can provide technical reference for the safe operation and optimal design of offshore wind turbines.

  • The excavation works for deep foundation in urban areas have recently increased complaints of blasting vibration and settlement of ground level. Foundation must be excavated approximately up to 24-28m depths from the surface. The roads and subway line pass through the excavation area. The Dae-chung station is also located at the nearest distance 5-35m from the working site. To protect subway station and adjacient some structures from blasting and settlement, the level of ground vibration, displacements and stress were monitored and analyzed. The results can be summarized as follows ; 1. An empirical particle velocity equation were obtained by test blasts at Nassan Missi 860 Office tel construction site. $V{\;}={\;}K(D/\sqrt{W})^{-n}$, where the values for n and k are estimated tobe 0.371 and 1.551. From this ground vibration equation, the max. charge weight per delay time against distance from blasting point is calculated. Detailed blasting method is also presented. 2. To measure the horizontal displacement in directions perpendicular to the borehole axis, 6 inclinometers installed around working sites. The displacement at the begining was comparatively high because the installation of struts was delayed, but after its installation the values showed a stable trend. Among them, the displacement by 3 inclinometers installed on a temporary parking area showed comparatively high values, for example, the displacement measured at hole No. IC-l recoded the max. 47.04mm for 6 months and at hole No. IC-2 recorded the max. 57.33mm for 7 months. So, all of these data was estimated below a safe standard value 103mm. 3. Seven strain gauge meter was installed of measure the magnitude and change of stress acted on structs. The measured value of maximum stress was $-465{\;}kgf/\textrm{cm}^2,{\;}-338.4{\;}kgf/\textrm{cm}^2,{\;}302.3{\;}kgf/\textrm{cm}^2$ respectively. In compareto the allowable stress level of steel, they are estimated to be safe.
