  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the subjective experience of Highly active Antiretroviral therapy (HAART) adherence in Korean patients with HIV. Methods: A phenomenological methodology was used for the study. Data were collected from March to December, 2013 using open-ended questions during in-depth interviews. Participants were taking HAART for HIV, and were contacted through purposive techniques. Results: Four men and 4 women whose average treatment period was 5.9 years participated in this study. Seven themes emerged from the analysis using Colazzi's method: (a) Seizing life in a deep sense of despair, (b) Struggling with medication, (c) Facing harsh treatment from health care providers, (d) Spoiling healthy pattern, (e) Hungering for communication and emotional support, (f) Turning to accepting HIV, (g) Becoming adherent to HIV treatment. Conclusion: Prejudice from health care providers and lack of emotional support were barriers to HAART in Korea. Intervention strategies are needed to decrease prejudices from health care providers and to increase family support.

  • This study is purposed to list the full translation of "The secret method of tumor treatment(治瘇方)" and to report the results to the academic world. The results are described as follows. 1. It seems to be difficult to accept the current "The secret method of tumor treatment(治瘇秘方)" as the original script of "The method of tumor treatment(治瘇方)". It seemed that the Imeonguk(任彦國)'s 'Important and Valuable Method(遺方)' at the era of Joseon was copied by handwriting among the private sector. 2. There are contents which are overlapped with "Experience Method of Acupuncture(針灸經驗方)". A further study is required whether the "Experience Method of Acupuncture" was added later on. Because resolution for the before and after of these two books may be acted as an important matter to conjecture the related schools with acupuncture science. 3. The Korean style unique method and terminology were introduced frequently in "The method of tumor treatment". Besides that, materials for the medicine were filled with the things of easy-to-contact in our daily life. It is regarded as one of the excellent materials to confirm the superiority of oriental medical science through the clinical experiments today.

Methods: This study was a qualitative descriptive study using the in-depth interview. Eight adolescent cancer survivors who were diagnosed with cancer between 11 to 18 years old participated in the study. Results: The adaptation experiences of adolescent cancer survivors over time were identified within five categories for during their treatment such as "being catapulted from one's life," "standing at the center of discomfort," "falling behind the line," "accepting the change," "being developed", and another five categories for after the treatment including "being shackled," "encountering the forgotten reality," "overcoming and emerging from the reality," "growing into adulthood," "entering into a new orbit." Participants reported the various members of their social support network and their roles during and after the treatment as well. Conclusion: While adolescent cancer survivors adjusted to their changing situations after the cancer diagnosis, their internalized adaptation, as well as perceived social support from their diverse surrounding network, played significant roles. These findings will become a valuable asset for developing age-appropriate nursing interventions to promote psychosocial adjustment of adolescents with cancer.

  • The purpose of the study was to explore the process of experience of spinal stenosis, herniation of intervertebral disk patients with low back pain under non-surgical treatment. 10 participants attended in-depth individual interview. Data analyzed using the Grounded theory methodology of Corbin and Strauss(2015). A core category emerged as 'Compromise with my body in the swamp of pain'. Central phenomenon was 'Constrained life by severe pain'. The process of the low back pain experience included three phases: 'cognition', 'coping', and 'adaptation'. This finding will be helpful for understanding the low back pain experience and be as fundamental data as for developing and applying nursing intervention program according to the low back pain experience process.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the caries experience and anxiety level to the dentist in the preschool children. 511 preschool children were brought to the dental hospital and examined for caries experience. Caries experience was measured as dDT index, fFT index, dDfFT index, dDT rate, and fFT rate. Children were requested to draw a dentist. Drawings were analyzed by the method of Human Figure Drawing Anxiety Score. Pearson correlation coefficents and their significance were calculated between caries experience and anxiety scores. There were significant negative correlation between fFT index and anxiety scores, between dDfFT index and anxiety scores, and between fFT rate and anxiety scores. There was significant positive correlation between dDT rate and anxiety scores. The results seemed to suggest that dental treatment experience reduced children's anxiety toward dentists. But, because there was obvious negative correlation between age and anxiety scores, age factor should be considered in the interpretation of the results.

  • Objectives : The aim of the study is to offer basic data that help to reduce dental fear by measuring adult dental fear level with DFS scale. Methods : The subjects were 300 persons including college students in W University and their parents in Jeollabuk-do Province. Data were collected by convenience sampling from May 1 to May 30, 2013. Results : 1. Dental clinic visit provoked pain in 99 people(47.4%). Oral examination and preventive treatment evoked pain in 13 people(6.2%). 2. Women tended to feel much pain than men. Both women and men felt the thrilling fear when a needle pricks the flesh. 3. Respondents having dental caries, gum bleeding, halitosis, shaking tooth, and painful tooth had a higher dental fear level. 4. The direct pain experience(p<0.001) had the greatest influence. The next influencing factor was the insufficient anesthesia(p<0.05). 5. The explanatory power that the pain experience has influence upon dental fear is $R^2$=0.151. Conclusions : The direct pain experience and the insufficient anesthesia experience have the great influence upon patients' dental fear level. Anesthetics and analgesics can be considered as one of the positive methods for pain control.

  • Purposes: This study purposed to analyze the relationship between patient safety and patient-centerendess. Methodology: The comprehensive scores from patient safety assessment program and patient experience survey conducted by Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service were used as independent variables and dependent variables. This study analyzed the relationship between 4 patient safety-related areas(i.e. risk standardized readmission ratio, intensive care unit, preventive antibiotic, the drug evaluation) and 6 patient experience areas(i.e. nurse services, doctor services, medication & treatment, hospital environment, patient's right, overall experience) by using robust regression analysis. Findings: According to results, the score in 'patient's right' and 'risk standardized readmission ratio' areas were found to have a significant relationship, and 'overall experience' and the 'preventive antibiotic' areas. The ratio of senior beds and specialists was a general characteristics of hospitals that had a significant relationship on patient experience assessment. Practical Implication: The relationships between patient safety and patient experience assessment were varied depending on areas. Further study is needed to make clear the supposed relationship.
