Removal of Flooding in a PEM Fuel Cell at Cathode by Flexural Wave

  • Energy is an essential driving force for modern society. In particular, electricity has become the standard source of power for almost every aspect of life. Electric power runs lights, televisions, cell phones, laptops, etc. However, it has become apparent that the current methods of producing this most valuable commodity combustion of fossil fuels are of limited supply and has become detrimental for the Earth's environment. It is also self-evident, given the fact that these resources are non-renewable, that these sources of energy will eventually run out. One of the most promising alternatives to the burning of fossil fuel in the production of electric power is the proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell. The PEM fuel cell is environmentally friendly and achieves much higher efficiencies than a combustion engine. Water management is an important issue of PEM fuel cell operation. Water is the product of the electrochemical reactions inside fuel cell. If liquid water accumulation becomes excessive in a fuel cell, water columns will clog the gas flow channel. This condition is referred to as flooding. A number of researchers have examined the water removal methods in order to improve the performance. In this paper, a new water removal method that investigates the use of vibro-acoustic methods is presented. Piezo-actuators are devices to generate the flexural wave and are attached at end of a cathode bipolar plate. The "flexural wave" is used to impart energy to resting droplets and thus cause movement of the droplets in the direction of the traveling wave.

ACHIEVING CONSISTENCY IN LIGHTING SCHEMES FOR CONSTRUCTION WORK ZONES THROUGH LIGHTING SIMULATION

  • Nighttime construction is being adopted by many state DOT's as a way to mitigate the impact of construction operations on the traveling public. Although a number of states have developed standard specifications for nighttime lighting, these standards are usually in the form of generic requirement statements that only specify minimum illuminance levels. The lighting standards do not include specific ways to achieve this illuminance level such as lighting arrangements and configurations for various work zone plans and construction operations. This leaves confusion between the traffic engineers and the contractors and does not guarantee consistency in those plans, thus affecting productivity and safety (lighting conditions account for 18% to 28% of work zone accidents). The main objective of this study is to utilize three dimensional animation and lighting analysis software to study and model lighting conditions of a construction site. This is expected to increase the safety and productivity of construction operations by achieving consistency in work zone lighting schemes. A computerized model was developed, called Nitelite. Various lighting schemes can be studied using the software to provide for typical applications including lighting fixture's locations, luminance, mounting height, tilt angle, and fixture type. The results from the developed software tool were validated through comparisons with previous research conducted using field measurements.

  • This paper explores rich and complex implications of Marcel Duchamp's Mile of String which he created for "First Papers of Surrealism," the Surrealist international exhibition in New York in 1942. Part of a larger project devoted to investigating Duchamp's role in Surrealist exhibitions and his relation to the avant-garde group, this paper focuses on Duchamp's exhibition installation in the 1942 show. Under the title of "g$\acute{e}$n$\acute{e}$rateur-arbitre" Duchamp played an important role as installation and exhibition designer in a series of major Surrealist exhibitions in the 1930's-1960's. The "First Papers of Surrealism" was held by Surrealists who exiled in New York during World War I, and Duchamp created a labyrinthine installation of string for the exhibition, which physically blocked the spectator and optically hindered his or her contemplative view. Unraveling the intricately related meanings of Mile of String as an independent work of art and an installation for a specific exhibition, I examine the work on two levels: first, how the work was situated in the context of Duchamp's oeuvre, particularly his earlier work employing string or thread; second, how and in what way the installation rendered a critique on Surrealism as a group and an avant-garde movement. More specifically, by exploring the concepts of 'pataphysics' and voluntary 'nomadism' implicated in Duchamp's work, I suggest that his Mile of String asserted a critical stance against nationalism and collective identity of Surrealism and manifested a radical individualism founded upon what he called the spirit of 'expatriation.'

Future Design and Success Engineering in Global Society by Creative Self-innovation

  • In this paper, we proposed "Future Design and Success Engineering in Global Society by Self-Innovation" (an abbreviated name: FDSE). We started to make a small experiment between Korea Maritime University and Yamagata University at the current year. After inspecting the results, especially, successful and unsuccessful points in our lecture, we have to develop the strong points and amend the week points, through making the analysis of success-failure, which is his favorite management method. We have to level up the contents of our work in the future. The students for this lecture would learn from experiences of "the common knowledge (common field of discussion)", held common languages, common thought, common system. They filled up the blanks of "The Matrix Frame" which is mentioned in the previous report, and they expressed their own way of life (work, study). As a matter of course, their personal private affairs must not be made public. It is quite happy that the cultural, economical exchanges between Korea and Japan are now in full flourish and people do a lot of traveling each other. However, if this project will start on the educational global standard, we have a world-wide significance. Moreover, we can promote goodwill between Korea and Japan, and also we can contribute to a better international understanding and the peace of the world by students in both Universities. We hope that candidates for this lecture will have a rounded personality and be a life worthy of human being for realizing Self-Actualization in "Motivation and Personality" by Abraham Maslow.

지하철 차량운용 문제에 대한 수리적 해법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Mathematical Programming Approach to the Subway Routing Problem)

  • 차량운용문제 혹은 열차반복문제는 수송계획, 열차운행계획에서 작성된 열차운행시각에 기초하여 편성유형 또는 차종에 따라 주어진 제약조건(선회조건, 검수조건, 기지복귀조건 등)을 반영하여 최적의 차량운용 다이아, 운용순서를 구성하는 문제이다. 일반적으로 이 문제는 집합분할(Set Partition)문제로 모델링하여 열생성(Column Generation) 기법을 사용하여 제약조건에 맞는 운용을 생성하였다. 하지만, 본 연구에서는 지하철과 같이 열차운행의 빈도는 높고 물리적 네트웍은 간단하며 시종착역의 수가 적을 경우 많은 대안 경로(Alternative Routing)들이 생성되는 특징 및 일반 철도와는 다른 역에서의 공간적 제약에 따른 차량 선회 제약을 고려하여 차량운용수를 최소화할 수 있는 지하철 차량운용 문제에 대한 수학적인 모델을 제시하고자 한다. 먼저, 차량선회제약만을 고려하여 최소비용 흐름 모형으로 네트워크 모형을 구성하였다. 최소비용 흐름 모형을 결과로 생성된 운용을 바탕으로 각 운용의 운행거리를 정규화(Normalize)하는 휴리스틱 기법을 제안하였다. 또한, 이 방법론을 실제와 유사한 지하철 열차 스케줄에 적용하였고 약 14%의 차량소요 감소 및 최대 영업거리 약 11%, 표준영업거리편차 약 5% 감소를 통하여 본 연구결과의 유용성을 확인하였다.

  • After the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, correspondents of Chosun called on Japan twelve times, as a mission, from 1607 to 1811. The suite of Chosun Communication Facilities (correspondents) was composed of nearly 500 people including a senior envoy, a junior envoy, other envoyes, and cooks. After preparing traveling expenses, Sifts, foods, medicinal stuffs, and ginseng, they shipped people and freight in three passenger ships and three freighters. They departed from Pusan for Edo(Tokyo). There were 28 stop-overs on their way to Edo and the banquet was given for them at every stop. The arrangements of the table for each banquet were made up of 753 Seon(tables), 3Jeup(soups) and 15Che(dishes). 753Seon(tables) is Ganban(the table for decoration) and a substantial food reception was composed of 3Jeup(soups) and 15Che(dishes). 753Seon(tables) was called Dadopoong(the food of refreshment) style and this was the standard arrangement of the banquet table in Japan. It was comprised of 3Jeup(soups) and 15Che(dishes). On their way from Edo to Thusima Island, food was afforded to correspondents for later preparation and dining. The banquet that the master of Thusima Island gave was composed of the first and second style banquets. The first one was Chusun style and the second one was Japanese style.

유한요소와 무한요소를 사용한 2차원 선형 지반-구조물계의 지진응답해석법 (Seismic Response Analysis Method for 2-D Linear Soil-Structure Systemsusing Finite and Infinite Elements)

  • 본 연구에서는 지하철구조물, 터널구조물 및 제방 등과 같은 2차원 지반-구조계의 지진응답해석을 위한 주파수영역 동적해석법을 제시하였다. 제시한 방법에서는 구조물과 구조물 주변 근역지반은 유한요소를 이용하고 원역지반은 주파수종속 동적무한요소를 이용하여 모형화하였다. 지진입력은 입력지진파를 수직으로 입사하는 P-파와 SV-파로 가정하여 자유장응답을 구하였으며 외부고정경계법을 적용하여 등가지진하중을 산정하였다. 본 연구기법의 검증을 위하여, 층상 자유장지반과 균질 반무한지반에 매입된 원동형 공동에 대하여 지진응답을 수행하였다. 이들을 다른 기법에 의한 해와 비교한 결과, 본 연구의 기법이 매우 정확함을 알 수 있었다. 마지막으로 지하철 역사의 지진응답해석 예제를 제시하여 본 연구의 적용성을 보였다.

1급 응급구조사의 비디오후두경 기관삽관과 직접후두경 기관삽관의 신속성 및 정확도 비교 (Comparison of Video Laryngoscope and Direct Laryngoscope on Rapidity and Accuracy in Tracheal Intubation by Paramedic)

  • Objective : This study compares Video laryngoscope and Direct laryngoscope in tracheal Intubation on rapidity and accuracy by paramedic and aims to improve efficiency of airway management and survival rate in pre-hospital treatment for the patients with severe trauma, cardiac arrest or dyspnea caused by acute diseases. Methods : 60 paramedics were recruited from 13 fire stations located in C province. With the consent of the paramedics, likelihood ratio test was carried out and they were divided into two different groups; DL group (30) and GVL group (30). Regarding intubation conditions, difficult airway grade I, grade II and grade III as well as sniffing position and neutral position were examined. This study also compared between ambulance in motion and in stand still. Frequency, average and standard deviation were analyzed with statistics program, SPSS WIN 17.0 and repeated measure design was introduced to examine inter-relations between position, grade and groups. Results : Intubation was performed more rapidly in neutral position and GVL than in sniffing position and DL(F = 15.260, p = .000). Rapidity value was better with grade I and grade II than grade III and better with GVL than DL(F = 32.629, p = .000). Accuracy value was higher with neutral position and GVL than sniffing position and DL(F = 5.008, p = .011). grade III was less accurate than grade I, grade II and GVL was more accurate than DL(F = 10.966, p = .000). Ambulance motion status did not show any statistically significant differences in accuracy and rapidity. Conclusion : Given this study results, neutral position is better for the patient with severe trauma. For a better survival, GVL intubation can be considered since GVL can enhance accuracy as well as rapidity regarding difficult airway. Since there is no significant differences in ambulance motion factors, intubation can be recommended even in moving ambulance for shortening traveling time to a hospital.

북한의 철근콘크리트 슬래브교에 관한 연구 (Study on the Reinforced Concrete Slab Bridges of North Korea)

  • 남북한이 상이한 사회적 규범체계 하에 분단국가로 장기화될수록, 건설기술에 대한 이론적 기술적 차이가 많이 발생하게 된다. 따라서 남북한이 화해의 국면에서 상호 교류시, 공동으로 사용하는 철근콘크리트 도로교의 성능수준도 명확히 차이가 발생한다. 이에 본 연구는 북한의 철근콘크리트 도로교 설계기준과 관련된 자료를 면밀히 비교 분석하고, 철근콘크리트 슬래브교에 대한 표준설계 제원과 사례를 토대로 구조해석을 수행했다. 특히 남북한의 설계트럭하중에 대하여 활하중 영향을 분석함으로써, 북한의 철근콘크리트 슬래브교에 대한 수준을 추정하였고, 이를통해 통행에 대한 안전성을 사전에 검토할 수 있도록 기초 연구를 수행하였다. 따라서 향후 남북한이 화해국면에 접어들어 교류가 활발히 진행되거나, 더 나아가 통일국가로 준비하는 단계에서, 공통의 철근콘크리트 도로교 설계기준을 작성하는데 기초자료로 활용될 것으로 기대한다.

여행 프로그램 연동형 데이터서비스의 부가정보와 정보 전송 설계 연구 (A study on additional information and its transmission method of data service linked to travel program)

  • 2018년과 2019년 한국관광공사 조사에 의하면 TV 프로그램이나 영향력 있는 동영상에 기록된 장소를 여행하는 것이 여행의 중요한 경향으로 자리 잡았으며, 여행 프로그램을 시청하면 그 프로그램에 등장한 장소에 대한 방문 의도가 향상된다는 연구 결과들도 발표되고 있다. 이 연구는 여행 프로그램의 시청자에게 프로그램에 노출되고 있는 장소와 행사에 대한 부가정보를 제공하는 여행 프로그램 연동형 데이터서비스를 설계하였다. 구체적으로, 여행 프로그램의 부가정보를 장소와 행사로 구분하여 정형적으로 정의하였고 프로그램 내용에 정합된 부가정보의 노출 방법을 설계하였다. 또한 부가정보를 프로그램 방송시간에 맞춰 적절하게 데이터서비스에 제공하는 국제표준 DVB 기반의 데이터 전송 방식을 고안하였다. 이 연구는 여행 프로그램을 대상으로 데이터서비스의 새로운 응용을 시험했다는 점에서 의의가 있으며, COVID-19 사태로 침체된 여행 문화의 활성화에 미력하나마 도움이 되기를 기대한다.
