The main activities of container terminals are to load container freights to vessels, discharge them from vessels, and store them in the storage yard. Container terminals make many operational plans to execute these functions effectively. If the plans do not consider enough the loads of related resources, they may have low actualities. This study discusses the optimal yard planning model which considers various resources, such as the storage yard, yard cranes, internal vehicles, and travel lanes, in container terminals. The model determines the groups and amounts of containers which are stored in each storage block by using the resource profile. The yard planning problem is represented to the multi-commodity minimal cost flow problem and is formulated to the linear programming model. In order to explain the application of the mathematical model, the numerical examples are presented. Additionally, the relationship between the average load ratio and the relocation ratio is discussed.

The goal of site layout planning(SLP) is to maximize the productivity and efficiency of the construction by reducing travel distance and material handling cost and manpower. However, SLPs are static layout schemes, which cannot be reorganized during the construction process to correspond with errors, phase transition, changing working environments on the site. To solve this problem, researches on dynamic site layout planning(DSLP) are emerging. This preliminary study clarifies characteristics of temporary facility's variables to develop the vertical DSLP algorithm of high-rise building construction.

This paper addresses the allocation planning of the storage location in a warehouse system that the dedicated storage method is used. In the discrete finite time period model, the demands for storage location of products are dynamic for time periods. The planning is to determine the reallocation time period and the storage location of the products in reallocation time period, which minimizes costs. The cost factors are the reallocation cost, the travel cost within warehouse and the surplus storage location cost. A model is formulated, and the property of optimal solution is characterized. The dynamic programming algorithm is developed, and a numerical example is shown.
The objective of this study is to analyze the travel behaviors of customers accessing to three different types of shopping facilities - traditional markets(TM), hyper markets(HM), and super supermarkets(SSM) - and also to find out the most desirable location for each type of shopping facilities that encourage sustainable transportation and smart urban growth. It also demonstrates what mode has the highest percentage of modal split and what is the access distance for public transport mode by each shopping facilities (SSM: 84.5% walking and 667m, TM: 20.1% bus and 1.6km, HM : 46.2% private car and 4.2km). Among TM, HM, and SSM, statistically significant differences are found in terms of mode choices and other associated travel behaviors. The research findings are expected to contribute to finding future urban planning and transportation solutions that promote walking and public transit uses for shopping trips and thus help support green transportation and sustainable urban growth.

Four-step travel-demand modeling based on a trip-level has been widely used over many decades. However, there has been a wide variance between forecasted- and real-travel demands, which leads less reliable on the model implications. A primary reason is that person's real travel behavior is not properly captured throughout the model developments. An activity-based modeling (ABM) approach was proposed and developed toward increasing the accuracy and reality of person's travel behavior in the U.S. since 1990', and stands as a good alternative to replace the existing trip-based approach. The paper contributes to the understanding of how the ABM approaches are dissimilar to the trip-based modeling approach in terms of estimation units, estimation process, their pros and cons and etc. We examined three activity-based travel demand model systems (DaySim, CT-Ramp, and CEMDAP) that are most commonly applied by many MPOs (Metropolitan Planning Organization). We found that the ABM approach can effectively explain multi-dimensional travel decision-makings and be expected to increase the predictive accuracy. Overall, the ABM approach can be a good substitute for the existing travel-demand methods having unreliable forecasts.

In order to make the underwater vehicle carry out the mission in a submarine environment, it is needed to plan a safe and efficient route to a given destination and prevent the autonomous submersible from colliding with obstacles while moving along the planned route. The function of collision avoidance makes the travel distance of the autonomous submersible longer. Moreover, it should move slowly near to obstacles against their moving disturbance. As a result, this invokes the degradation of the navigation efficiency in the process of collision avoidance. The side effect of the collision avoidance is not ignorable in the case of high congested environments such as the coast with many obstacles. In this paper, we suggest a path planning method which provides the route with minimum travel time considering collision avoidance in congested environment. For the purpose, we define environmental congestion map related to geometric information and obstacles. And we propose a method to consider the moving cost in the RRT scheme that provides the existing minimum distance path. We verified that the efficiency of our algorithm with simulation experiments.
Travel is a factor that stimulates the vitality of the urban and is widely used as an indicator of sustainable growth of the region. In Korea, however, no studies has been made to predict changes in traffic and calculate the accessibility of the region by comprehensively considering the socio-economic conditions of the travelers. The purpose of this study is to classify commuters according to the household income and to analyse the traffic characteristics of each class. The analysis results are aggregated into two. First, the analysis of study found different transport characteristics for different income classes. This is the result that underpins the argument of a previous study that suggested that a discriminatory approach is necessary for each income in determining the accessibility of the region. Second, this study calculated utility values differently for each income class based on the transit time and cost required between each zone. Through these measures, transport characteristics were analyzed by income class using indicators that considered transportation infrastructure, and socio-economic conditions of the travelers. This study is meaningful in that it provided the basis for calculating the accessibility that could take into account the activities of the housing consumers in establishing domestic housing policies.
This study aims to empirically identify the effect of spatial accessibility, based on travel, on housing prices in the Korean capital region. More specifically, it has two research purposes: First, investigating the effect of comprehensive spatial accessibility, based on road network and actual trips from origin to destination, on average apartment price (Korean Won per square meter) at the level of Eup, Myeon and Dong; Second, identifying better accessibility index between Hansen's and Kalogirou and Foley's ones. The former represents a road-based travel time decay function with destination trips, while the latter is a function with origin trips as well as destination ones. The study employs spatial economic models considering spatial auto-correlative relationship as an appropriate methodology with such control independent indicators as population density, road density, educational environment and distances from CBDs. Analysis results demonstrate that spatial accessibility, based on road network and actual trips from origin to destination, has a statistically significant impacts on housing price in the region. Our empirical evidence proves that the Hansen index is more appropriate than the other in estimating housing price impacts.
Unlike a typical small-sized robot navigating in a free space, an autonomous vehicle has to travel in a designated road which has lanes to follow and traffic rules to obey. High-Definition (HD) maps, which include road markings, traffic signs, and traffic lights with high location accuracy, can help an autonomous vehicle avoid the need to detect such challenging road surroundings. With space constraints and a pre-built HD map, a new type of path planning algorithm can be conceived as a substitute for conventional grid-based path planning algorithms, which require substantial planning time to cover large-scale free space. In this paper, we propose an obstacle-avoiding, cost-based planning algorithm in a continuous space that aims to pursue a globally-planned path with the help of HD map information. Experimentally, the proposed algorithm is shown to outperform other state-of-the-art path planning algorithms in terms of computation complexity in a typical urban road setting, thereby achieving real-time performance and safe avoidance of obstacles.

This study with 'trip' as a theme, aims to develop textile designs and fashion bags for travel which is widely applicable fitting traveler's T P O, applying Victor Vasarely's artwork. During the planning process of design, 'Whenever & Wherever's concept was set by analyzing fashion trend information in 2010-11 F/W proposed by Interfashion Planning and FCK; in addition, 'Bobos' were selected as research targets. It organized 4 images of 'Modern', 'Romantic', 'Classic' and 'Fantastic'. The motives are proposed textile design with '$Cross^2$', 'Falling Z', 'Cir-Classicism' and 'Skinny-holic' per each theme. The designs developed were printed out and into polyester canvas with a Polaris V6 DTP from dgen, Corp. Textile designs developed were applied for 'two-way' formed fashion bags for traveling with high practicality. Fashion bags for traveling consisted of big bags, tote bags, and hip sacks; a total of 12 works (4 sets per theme) were produced. This study sought practical plans for artworks by producing fashion goods through a DTP system. The results of this study can be used as guidelines for further studies and as a significant contribution to the creation of high values for exciting fashion products.
