Many highway projects are under way in Korea. However, owners frequently find that the project cost exceeds the budget and they are unable to identify the underlining reasons. The main purpose of this research is to develop cost models for transportation projects in Korea using the multiple linear regression (MLR). The data consist of 27 completed transportation projects, built from 1991 to 2001, The technique of multiple regression analysis is used to develop the parametric cost estimating model for total budget cost per highway square meter (TBC/$m^2$). Findings of the study indicated that MLR car be applied to highway projects in Korea. There are twf) major contributions of this research. (1) the identification of transportation parameters as a significant cost driver for transportation costs and (2) the successful development of the parametric cost estimating models for transportation projects in Korea.

The percentage of 3PL (Third-party Logistics), which uses third party businesses to outsource elements of the company's distribution and fulfillment services, is increasing steadily. To provide 3PL service to the customers, it is needed to estimate the total transportation cost and propose the unit cost to the customers. In this paper, we develop a decision support system for estimation of transportation cost of 3PL provider considering various transportation services, such as direct transportation, multi point visiting transportation, and cross docking. The system supports route planning of vehicles by using algorithms based on tabu search and dynamic programming.

The ratio of the nonscheduled air flight transportation is about 49% among the personnel transportation at the Korean Air Force from 1993 to 1997. If an appropriate nonscheduled air flight method is developed, it may considerably achieve a reduction of the transportation cost. The purpose of this paper is to propose the least cost transportation method using the optimization technique. The nonscheduled air flight for the personnel can be classified into three types. The proposed least cost transportation method is tested with a current air flight method for each of three types. It is shown that a proposed method can considerably reduce the transportation cost.

Recently, in order to stay at predominance in the global infinity competition, most of companies have been reducing the cost in many fields of industry First of all, the reduction of the logistics cost have been recognized greatly as the company value rises. But, the current situation of domestic logistics cost is very weak compared with Japan, U.S.A., etc. A rate of logistics cost out of GDP is still high compared with the competitors. The reduction of the transportation cost from overall logistics cost is most urgent subject. One of the methods to make a domestic transportation system efficient is the consolidation. In this paper. we try to compare the consolidated transportation model for a cost reduction with individual case. We also analyze the efficiency of consolidated transportation using simulation program with Arena of System Modeling Company.

Electric vehicles that are currently in operation are being produced domestically. Therefore, there is no great difficulty in receiving or repairing the failed parts or in the overall repair. On the other hand, most of the electric locomotives are manufactured by introducing the parts and technology of foreign vehicle manufacturers. In this paper, conducted a study about life cycle cost analysis of developed auxiliary power unit in 8200 series electric locomotive and suggested cost down method. This confirms the economic benefits of the developed products of the auxiliary power supply compared to the existing products. In addition, a sensitivity analysis of MTBF was conducted to suggest a life cycle cost down method.

The objective of this paper is to identify the problems of Korean inland transportation system and suggest the improvement plan for reducing the export logistics cost. The results are as follows: (1) Expansion of logistics hub facilities : Logistics hub facilities- integrated freight terminal and ICD, etc. can shorten the empty leg and reduce the logistics cost. (2) Design for CVO(Commercial Vehicle Operations) : CVO has various functions that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of freight transportation. (3) Rationalization of freight transportation industry : In particular, the deregulation of the motor freight industry and the privatization of the railway industry induce the competition among their firms and undercut the transportation rates in the long run. (4) Use of third-party logistics : The benefits of TPL are system reliability, improved customer service, and more efficient cost performance.

More and more medium and small enterprises do business across the world according to generalization of online shopping mall such as eBay and Amazon. But high export and import transportation cost make weak the price competitive power of medium and small enterprises products. Then this paper deals with the development of new business model which can reduce the transportation cost for global logistics through efficiently overcoming the constraints as length, size, and weight of product. We explain this model with application for company which export the automobile parts. We can expect the transportation cost reduction by 50%.

The objectives of this paper are to study the effect of key parameters on the cycle performance and capacity and to estimate the cost of latent and sensible energy transportation systems. The overall conductance (UA) of each component, the ambient temperature and the absorber inlet temperature are considered the key parameters. It is concluded that COP of the solution transportation using an absorption system (STA) at ambient temperature is 10% higher than that of the conventional sensible system. It is also found that the cost of STA system can be reduced 7.5 times to that of sensible energy transportation for one year of operation with 10 km transportation distance.

The objective of this paper is to evaluate the economic performance of latent and sensible energy transportation systems. LCC (Life-Cycle Cost) analysis is a practical method and a guideline for evaluating the economic performance of considered systems during the Life-Cycle Period. By comparing the LCC of alternatives, The most ideal alternative is determined which has the lowest LCC. It is concluded that the cost of STA (Solution Transportation Absorption system) can be reduced by 67% to that of sensible energy transportation for study period with 10 km transportation distance.

We consider the product differentiation model of online channel competition and examine the strategies of hybrid firms in terms of efficiency. After measuring the social cost of online business strategies, we show that (i) online channel of hybrid firm under blockaded entry may increase the social cost if the firms' delivery cost is sufficiently smaller than the consumer's transportation cost, and (ii) online competition under free entry may increase the social cost if the firms' delivery cost is sufficiently larger than the consumer's transportation cost. Finally, we discuss the strategic incentive of hybrid firms to reduce delivery cost and investigate the effect of the Internet maturity on the social cost.
