Numerical simulation of aerodynamic characteristics of a BWB UCAV configuration with transition models

  • A numerical simulation for a nonslender BWB UCAV configuration with a rounded leading edge and span of 1.0 m was performed to analyze its aerodynamic characteristics. Numerical results were compared with experimental data obtained at a free stream velocity of 50 m/s and at angles of attack from -4 to $26^{\circ}$. The Reynolds number, based on the mean chord length, is $1.25{\times}106$. 3D multi-block hexahedral grids are used to guarantee good grid quality and to efficiently resolve the boundary layer. Menter's shear stress transport model and two transition models (${\gamma}-Re_{\theta}$ model and ${\gamma}$ model) were used to assess the effect of the laminar/turbulent transition on the flow characteristics. Aerodynamic coefficients, such as drag, lift, and the pitching moment, were compared with experimental data. Drag and lift coefficients of the UCAV were predicted well while the pitching moment coefficient was underpredicted at high angles of attack and influenced strongly by the selected turbulent models. After assessing the pressure distribution, skin friction lines and velocity field around UCAV configuration, it was found that the transition effect should be considered in the prediction of aerodynamic characteristics of vortical flow fields.

  • This paper presents the dimensionless wall distance, y+ effect on SST turbulent model for wind turbine blade. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI wind turbine was used for the study, which the wind tunnel and structural test data has publicly available. The near wall treatment and turbulent characteristics have important role for proper CFD simulation. Most of the CFD development in this area is focused on advanced turbulence model closures including second moment closure models, and so called Low-Reynolds (low-Re) number and two-layer turbulence models. However, in many cases CFD aerodynamic predictions based on these standard models still show a large degree of uncertainty, which can be attributed to the use of the $\epsilon$-equation as the turbulence scale equation and the associated limitations of the near wall treatment. The present paper demonstrates the y+ definition effect on SST (Shear Stress Transport) turbulent model with advanced automatic near wall treatment model and Gamma theta transitional model for transition from lamina to turbulent flow using commercial ANSYS-CFX. In all cases the SST model shows to be superior, as it gives more accurate predictions and is less sensitive to grid variations.

Marangoni convection radiative flow of dusty nanoliquid with exponential space dependent heat source

  • The flow of liquids submerged with nanoparticles is of significance to industrial applications, specifically in nuclear reactors and the cooling of nuclear systems to improve energy efficiency. The application of nanofluids in water-cooled nuclear systems can result in a significant improvement of their economic performance and/or safety margins. Therefore, in this paper, Marangoni thermal convective boundary layer dusty nanoliquid flow across a flat surface in the presence of solar radiation is studied. A two phase dusty liquid model is considered. Unlike classical temperature-dependent heat source effects, an exponential space-dependent heat source aspect is considered. Stretching variables are utilized to transform the prevailing partial differential system into a nonlinear ordinary differential system, which is then solved numerically via the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg approach coupled with a shooting technique. The roles of physical parameters are focused in momentum and heat transport distributions. Graphical illustrations are also used to consider local and average Nusselt numbers. We examined the results under both linear and quadratic variation of the surface temperature. Our simulations established that the impact of Marangoni flow is useful for an enhancement of the heat transfer rate.

The Influences of Water Vapor/Hydrogen Ratio, Gas-Flow Rate and Antimony on the Surface Oxidation of Trip Steels

  • In the current paper, we are reporting the results from an investigation of the surface and sub-surface oxidation of a TRIP steel containing 2 wt.% Mn and 0.5 wt.% Al with and without 0.03 wt.% Sb. The oxidizing conditions in the gas were successively varied in terms of the linear gas flow-rate and dew-point, from conditions were gas-phase mass transport limited conditions prevailed, to those were solid state processes became the rate determining conditions. It was found, that at sufficient low oxidizing conditions (defined as flow-rate/dew-point), the metal surfaces were clear of any external oxides, and as the oxidizing conditions were increased, Mn- and Si- oxide nodules formed along with magnetite. As the oxidizing conditions were increased further, a dense magnetite layer was present. The limits of the various regions were experimentally quantified and a proposed hypothesis for their occurrences is presented. No obvious effect of Sb was noted in this micro-structural research of the oxides that results from the various conditions investigated in this study.

연속적인 패킷 손실 제어와 제로 윈도우 제어를 이용한 무선 TCP 전송 성능 향상 연구 (A Study of efficient Wireless TCP Transmission Using Consecutive Packet Loss and Zero Window Control)

  • 기존의 가장 널리 쓰이는 전송계층 프로토콜인 TCP는 패킷 손실의 원인이 망의 혼잡 때문이라는 가정 하에 설계된 프로토콜로서 유선망과 고정 호스트로 이루어진 전통적인 네트워크에는 적합하지만 페이딩, 잡음, 간섭 등의 전송 에러가 발생하는 무선 환경에서는 전송 프로토콜로서 적용하기에 비효율적이다. 이것은 무선망에서의 비트 에러에 의한 패킷손실 역시 혼잡으로 간주하여 불필요한 전송 제어가 발생하기 때문이다. 본 논문에서는 무선 TCP 패킷의 전송성능을 향상시키기 위하여 연속적인 패킷 손실에 대한 제어와 TCP 윈도우 제어를 하여 불필요한 혼잡제어 알고리즘을 수행하지 않게 하는 개선된 SNOOP 프로토콜을 제안하였고 개선된 모듈의 성능을 모의실험을 통하여 확인하였다.

동해 해류 및 환경 특성 연구 (EAST-I) (East Asian Seas Time-series I (EAST-I))

  • Many countries has been interested in studying the East Sea to look ahead into the world oceans' future, since the East Sea has been known as a miniature ocean. In this respect, PICES decided the East Asian Seas Time-series (EAST) studies, and the East Sea as the first subject (EAST-I). Since 2006 Ministry of Land, Transport & Maritime Affairs, Korea has supported the Korean EAST-I program. Through the Korean EAST-I program, 44 research papers were published in various scientific journals. This special issue contains 6 research articles including results from the interdisciplinary observation in the summer, 2008. Those articles cover the entire East Sea from the Korea Strait to the Japan Basin, and also cover the studies of the euphotic layer to the bottom sediment. MLTM and KIMST have provided full support to EAST-I program. KHOA carried out the joint cruises in the Ulleung Basin. Those are deeply appreciated. Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to the editorial board of Ocean & Polar Research.

Vehicle-related Fine Particulate Air Pollution in Seoul, Korea

  • Vehicle exhaust is a dominant source of air pollutants in urban areas. Since people are easily exposed to vehicle exhaust particles while driving a car and/or traveling via public transportation, air pollution near traffic has been extensively studied in developed countries. In this paper, investigations on vehicle-related fine particulate air pollution at roadsides and on roads in Seoul, Korea were reviewed to understand air pollution near traffic. Comparison of $PM_{10}$ concentrations in Seoul showed that roadside air is more contaminated than urban air, implying that exposure levels near vehicular emissions are more critical to sensitive persons. Concentrations of ultrafine particles and BC (black carbon) at roadsides of Seoul fluctuate highly for short durations, responding to traffic situations. Diurnal variations of ultrafine particles and BC concentrations at roadsides seem to be affected by traffic volume, mixing layer height, and wind speed. Concentrations of ultrafine particles and BC decrease as distance from the road increases due to dilution during transport. On-road air pollution seems to be more severe than roadside air pollution in Seoul. Since nearby traffic air pollution has not been well understood in Seoul, further studies including various vehicular air pollutants and representative locations are needed.

  • 이형의 단말 플랫폼간의 유연하고 효율적인 통신은 로봇과 스마트 환경이 함께 증강된 기능을 구성하여 협업하기 위해 매우 중요하다. 기존의 네트워크 로봇 소프트웨어 플랫폼에서는 CORBA와 같은 범용의 통신 미들웨어를 사용하는 경우가 많았다. 그러나 범용의 통신 미들웨어는 너무 무겁고 사용이 복잡할 뿐만 아니라, 네트워크 로봇에 특화된 기능을 제공하지 못한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 TCP에 기반 한 원격객체함수 호출방식의 새로운 통신 프레임워크를 제안한다. 전송계층과 원격객체호출 계층으로 분리하여, 각 계층별로 다양한 특화 기능을 제공함으로써 스마트 환경에서 로봇과 다양한 단말이 효과적으로 통신할 수 있도록 한다.

Wet-Chemically Prepared NiO Layers as Hole Transport Layer in the Inverted Organic Solar Cell

  • We have demonstrated that solution-based fabrication of NiO films as HTL can be used for the construction of IOSCs. Type of solvent of NiO-solution, and annealing procedure of the active layers were optimized for obtaining a PCE of 3% of IOSC. The photovoltaic performance of NiO-based device is comparable to that of the same type of solar cell using PEDT:PSS instead of NiO. These solution-based processes can be a promising method for a mass production OSCs under ambient condition.

  • 제한된 자원을 가지는 장비들이 서로 통신을 하는 사물인터넷 환경에서는 경량화된 보안 프로토콜이 요구된다. 본 논문은 DTLS 프로토콜의 메시지 인증 경량화를 위해 해시 트리를 이용한 새로운 메시지 인증 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 기법은 DTLS 프로토콜의 기본 동작에 비해 경량화된 보안 동작을 제공하며, 통신과정 중에서도 불필요한 메시지 인증 코드의 사용을 줄여 사물인터넷 환경에 더욱 적합한 성능을 나타낸다.
