  • The transfer of cupric sulfate across the rat small intestine in vitro was studied by perfusion method using the segments of everted rat small intestine. Copper transport was approximately propotional to the metal concentration in the mucosal solution and no difference was observed in the metal transport among rat duodenum, jejunum and ileum. It was suggested from these results that copper transport across the rat small intestine would occur by passive diffusion. The effect of various chelating agents on copper transport across the rat small intestine n vitro and its uptake by the intestine were also studied. Copper transport was greatly enhanced in the presence of EDTA and NTA. Copper uptake decreased to a greater extent in the presence of EPTA and NTA.

  • Dredging and disposal is a conventional method to remove contaminated sediments. However, there are some problems in dredging and disposal, such as disturbance of contaminated sediments, disposal site determination, and high construction cost. Recently, in-situ capping which overcomes the problems of dredging and disposal is widely applied to isolate local contaminated sites. Numerical studies, which have been conducted to simulate contaminant transport during in-situ capping, have been concerned mainly with diffusive transport. However, contaminated sediments experience large strain consolidation induced by self-weight because of initially high moisture content of sediments, and contaminant transport results from advection and diffusion. Previous studies focus on contaminant transport during consolidation, but have neglected consolidation effect on long-term contaminant transport in sediments. This study presents numerical simulation results of consolidation effect on long-term contaminant transport in sediments.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of geometrical structure on the moisture transport properties of nonwoven batting materials. Two types of nonwovens were used such as single and double layered nonwovens. Steady and dynamic state water vapor transport properties were measured by absorption, evaporation and cobaltous chloride method respectively. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Geometrical structure affected water vapor evaporation, but there were no differences between single and double layered nonwovens in moisture absorption. Thickness and air permeability were influencing factor on water vapor transport rate. 2) Directionality of double layered nonwoven was observed both in steady and dynamic state moisture transport. There were differences between upper and lower layer of double layered nonwoven both in moisture absorption rate and color change by cobaltous chloride method. 3) In dynamic state of water vapor transport rate, single layered nonwoven reached more rapidly at the established relative humidity. It was confirmed that geometrical structure affected water vapor evaporation and hydrophilicity of fiber affected moisture absorption because there were much more water vapor transport rate by evaporation than absorption within the same period of time.

  • Bi-2223 tapes have been developed for low-field power applications at liquid nitrogen temperature. When the Bi-2223 tapes are used in an application such as a power transmission cable or a power transformer, they are supplied with an AC transport current simultaneously. AC loss taking into account such real applications is a crucial issue for power applications fo the Bi-2223 tapes to be feasible. In this paper, the transport losses for different AC current levels and arrangements of the neighboring tapes have been measured in a 1./5 m long Bi-2223 tape. The significant increase of the transport losses due to neighboring tape's AC currents is observed. An increase of the transport losses caused by a decrease of the Bi-2223 tape's critical current is a minor effect. The measured trasprot losses could not be explained by a dynamic resistance loss based on DC voltage-current characteristics in combination with the neighboring tape's AC currents. The trasport losses do not depend on the frequency of the neighboring tape's AC currents but is arrangements in the range of small current especially.

  • Tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) was used as carrier for the transport of Golden yellow and Cibacron LSG dyes through a hexane bulk liquid membrane. The transport efficiency of dyes by TBP was investigated under various experimental conditions such as pH of the feed phase (dyes solution), concentration of the receiving phase (NaOH solution), concentration of TBP in membrane, rate of stirring, effect of transport time, type of solvent, dye concentration in feed phase, effect of temperature.. The maximum transport dyes occurs at ratio of 1:1 TBP-hexane At pH 3.0 0.1 (feed phase) the transport dyes decreased. At high stirring speed (300 rpm) the dyes transport from the feed phase to the strip phase was completed within 60 minutes at $27^{\circ}C$. Under optimum conditions: Feed phase 100 mg/L dyes solution at pH 1.0 0.1, receiving phase 0.1 mol/L NaOH solution, membrane phase 1:1 TBP-hexane , Stirring speed 300 rpm and temperature $27^{\circ}C$, the proposed liquid membrane was applied to recover the textile effluent.

  • In this paper, the selection of transport route for import-export container cargo based on the sacrifice model and CO₂ emission was investigated. At first, the transportation of import-export container cargo, the transport share of each transport route, the CO₂ gas emission, the sacrifice model and the time value of import-export container cargo were investigated. And next, the selection of transport route based on the sacrifice model was investigated for the transport of import-export container cargo from Seoul to Pusan Port. Finally, the transport route was also selected by using the sacrifice model including the effect of CO₂ emission. The research results show that the transport route selection results of import-export container cargo based on the sacrifice model represents the present status of the transportation of import-export container cargo very well. And also the research results show that the reduction of transport time was very effective to increase the share of coastal transportation.

  • Three types of gap sensors, a capacitive gap sensor, an eddy current gap sensor, and a Hall effect gap sensor are described and evaluated through experiments for the purpose of precise gap sensing for micrometer scale movement, and a novel type of differential hall effect gap sensor is proposed. Each gap sensor is analyzed in terms of resolution and environment dependency including temperature dependency. Furthermore, a transport system for AMOLED deposition is introduced as a typical application of gap sensors, which are recently receiving considerable attention. Based on the analyses, the proposed differential Hall effect gap sensor is found to be the most suitable gap sensor for precise gap sensing, especially for application to a transport system for AMOLED deposition. The sensor shows resolution of $0.63mV/{\mu}m$ for the overall range of the gap from 0 mm to 2.5 mm, temperature dependency of $3{\mu}m/^{\circ}C$ from $20^{\circ}C$ to $30^{\circ}C$, and a monotonic characteristic for the gap between the sensor and the target.

  • In this paper, we report the results of the experimental study on the flow and the mass transport around a square harbor driven by a tidal effect. The model harbor is composed of a uniform water-depth with a straight breakwater. The harbor is connected to the outer ocean by an entrance region having the same shape as the harbor. We investigated two cases, one having another breakwater in the place between the entrance region and the outer ocean, and the other without it, The surface and bottom flow patterns of the model container are visualized by using light particles and dye, respectively. It was shown that the inner harbor and the entrance region have well-organized, large vortical residual flows, and the material transport between the entrance and outer region is however significantly different for two cases; when the breakwater is built between the two regions, the transport is far better than that without it, which is clearly contrary to our common sense that the breakwater would block the dispersion of the materials between the harbor and the outer ocean.
