Putrescine Transport in a Cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

  • The transport of putrescine into a moderately salt tolerant cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 was characterized by measuring the uptake of radioactively-labeled putrescine. Putrescine transport showed saturation kinetics with an apparent $K_m$ of $92{\pm}10\;{\mu}M$ and $V_{max}$ of $0.33{\pm}0.05\;nmol/min/mg$ protein. The transport of putrescine was pH-dependent with highest activity at pH 7.0. Strong inhibition of putrescine transport was caused by spermine and spermidine whereas only slight inhibition was observed by the addition of various amino acids. These results suggest that the transport system in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 is highly specific for polyamines. Putrescine transport is energy-dependent as evidenced by the inhibition by various metabolic inhibitors and ionophores. Slow growth was observed in cells grown under salt stress. Addition of low concentration of putrescine could restore growth almost to the level observed in the absence of salt stress. Upshift of the external osmolality generated by either NaCl or sorbitol caused an increased putrescine transport with an optimum 2-fold increase at 20 mosmol/kg. The stimulation of putrescine transport mediated by osmotic upshift was abolished in chloramphenicol-treated cells, suggesting possible involvement of an inducible transport system.

로테르담 규칙의 운송서류 전자화에 대한 영향 평가 (Evaluation on the Impact of the Rotterdam Rules on Facilitating the Use of Electronic Transport Reocrds)

  • The Rotterdam Rules is the first international maritime carriage of goods Convention that acknowledge electronic records of contracts of carriage. The Rules have developed separate chapter in relation to electronic transport records' issuing, transfer, etc. This paper aims to evaluate Rotterdam Rules' contribution to the use of electronic transport records. To achieve the aims firstly this paper have examined the related articles of Rotterdam Rules, Secondly in practical aspects, this paper explores the opportunities and obstacles which could be happened in practical procedures, applicable to transport industry, shipper and holder of electronic transport records. Findings could be summarized as follows, first the Rules shows high acceptability to whom it may involved in transport industry by simplify the contents of the Rules to avoid conflict with each countries' national laws. The Rules acknowledge the functional equivalence between paper and electronic transport records in specific provisions. This could be important development to facilitate the use of electronic transport records. But the Rules have not mentioned liability limit of transport industry when the problems arise from issuing, tele-transmission, transfer of the records. And the secure of the functional equivalence between paper and electronic transport records also could be remained in uncertain regime due to different stance of each national laws.

  • The interfacial area transport equation dynamically models the changes in interfacial structures along the flow field by mechanistically modeling the creation and destruction of dispersed phase. Hence, when employed in the numerical thermal-hydraulic system analysis codes, it eliminates artificial bifurcations stemming from the use of the static flow regime transition criteria. Accounting for the substantial differences in the transport mechanism for various sizes of bubbles, the transport equation is formulated for two characteristic groups of bubbles. The group 1 equation describes the transport of small-dispersed bubbles, whereas the group 2 equation describes the transport of large cap, slug or chum-turbulent bubbles. To evaluate the feasibility and reliability of interfacial area transport equation available at present, it is benchmarked by an extensive database established in various two-phase flow configurations spanning from bubbly to chum-turbulent flow regimes. The geometrical effect in interfacial area transport is examined by the data acquired in vertical fir-water two-phase flow through round pipes of various sizes and a confined flow duct, and by those acquired In vertical co-current downward air-water two-phase flow through round pipes of two different sizes.

Transport Risk Assessment for On-Road/Sea Transport of Decommissioning Waste of Kori Unit 1

  • Compared to operational wastes, nuclear power plant (NPP) decommissioning wastes are generated in larger quantities within a short time and include diverse types with a wider range of radiation characteristics. Currently used 200 L drums and IP-2 type transport containers are inefficient and restrictive in packaging and transporting decommissioning wastes. Therefore, new packaging and transport containers with greater size, loading weight, and shielding performance have been developed. When transporting radioactive materials, radiological safety should be assessed by reflecting parameters such as the type and quantity of the package, transport route, and transport environment. Thus far, safety evaluations of radioactive waste transport have mainly targeted operational wastes, that have less radioactivity and a smaller amount per transport than decommissioning wastes. Therefore, in this study, the possible radiation effects during the transport from NPP to disposal facilities were evaluated to reflect the characteristics of the newly developed containers and decommissioning wastes. According to the evaluation results, the exposure dose to transport workers, handling workers, and the public was lower than the domestic regulatory limit. In addition, all exposure dose results were confirmed, through sensitivity analysis, to satisfy the evaluation criteria even under circumstances when radioactive materials were released 100% from the container.

『승정원일기』를 통해 살펴본 현종에 대한 오수혈 활용 (Application of Five-Transport-points to King Hyeonjong through the 『Seungjeongwon Ilgi』)

  • Through articles published in the Seungjeongwon Ilgi, the following conclusions were obtained by analyzing how King Hyeonjong used Five-Transport-points. For the use of Five-Transport-points for King Hyeonjong, Five-Transport-points of most meridians was evenly used, except that no Five-Transport-points of Kidney Meridian were used. The use of Five-Transport-points for King Hyeonjong were evenly used for Jung acupoint, Shu acupoint, Hap acupoint. Among them, the use of Jung acupoint was remarkable. The diseases that were most frequently treated by using of Five-Transport-points for King Hyeonjong are ophthalmology, fever, and common cold. The Five-Transport-points were used most for feverish diseases. When performing the procedure using Five-Transport-points for King Hyeonjong, acupuncture and moxibustion were widely used at 95.7:4.3. It can be seen that this is due to the location of Five-Transport-points.

  • 고리 원전 사용후핵연료 저장조의 저장용량을 확보하기 위하여 2002년부터 사용후핵연료 운반용기를 이용하여 400다발 이상의 PWR 사용후핵연료 집합체를 원전부지 내에 수송, 저장하였다. 이를 위하여 KN-12 운반용기, 관련장비 및 수송차량으로 구성되는 수송시스템을 구성하였다. KN-12 운반용기는 국내 원자력법 및 IAEA의 수송규정에 따라 설계, 제작되고, 정부로부터 인허가를 획득하였으며, 취급장비 역시 관련규정에 따라 구비하였다. 수송 저장작업은 2 대의 운반용기를 동시에 투입하여 수행하였으며, 모든 작업공정에 대하여 엄격한 품질관리 및 방사선 안전관리를 수행하여 수송 안전성을 확보하고 신뢰도를 제고하였다.

음이온계 약물의 간수송과정에 있어서 대향수송의 약물동력학적 모델링 및 시뮬레이션 (Pharmacokinetic Modelling and Simulation of the Counter-transport in the Hepatic Transport of Organic Anions)

  • The purpose of the present study was to kinetically investigate the carrier-mediated uptake in the hepatic transport of organic anions, and to simulate the 'in vivo counter-transport' phenomena, using kinetic model which was developed in this study. The condition that the mobility of carrier-ligand complex is greater than that of free carrier is not essential for the occurrence of 'counter-transport' phenomenon. To examine the inhibitory effects on the initial uptake of organic anions by the liver, it is necessary to judge whether the true counter-transport mechanism (trans-stimulation) is working or not. Effects of bromophenol blue (BPB) or bromosulfophthalein (BSP) on the plasma disappearance curves of a 1-anilino-8-naphthalene sulfonate (ANS) were then kinetically analyzed based on a flow model, in which the ligand is eliminated only from the peripheral compartment (liver compartment). Moreover, 'in vivo counter-transport' phenomena were simulated based on the perfusion model which incorporated the carrier-mediated transport and the saturable intracellular binding. The 'in vivo counter-transport' phenomena in the hepatic transport of a organic anions were well demonstrated by incorporating the carrier-mediated process. However, the 'in vivo counter-transport' phenomena may be also explained by the enhancement of back diffusion due to the displacement of intracellular binding. In conclusion, one should be more cautious in interpreting data obtained from so-called 'in vivo counter-transport' experiments.

해양도시권 관광교통 통합지원체계 구축방향 연구 - 여수시권과 Bay Area의 비교연구를 중심으로 - (Establishing an integrated support system for tourism transportation in a marine city area - A comparison of Yeosu and the Bay Area -)

  • 본 연구는 여수시권의 해양관광교통체계 구축 방향을 강구하였다. 우리나라 남해안의 해양관광을 활성화시키기 위해서는 중심에 위치한 여수시의 효율적인 관광교통체계 구축이 필요하기 때문이다. 연구의 진행은 여수시권의 해양관광교통체계의 문제점을 분석하고, 이를 미국의 베이지역(Bay Area)과 비교하여 개선방안을 도출하였다. 연구 과정에서 여수시권의 해양관광 지원 교통체계는 광역교통과 도시교통 및 교통정보 체계 등에서 베이지역에 비해 미흡하게 평가되었다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 광역교통수단과 도시교통수단을 해양관광교통수단과 연계시키는 지원교통체계의 구축방향을 제시하였고, 추가적으로 여수시 인접지역과의 해양관광 공조 지원교통체계 구축방향도 다루었다. 또한 해양관광 지원 통합교통정보 제공방향도 제안하였다. 이 같은 해양관광교통 통합지원체계 구축을 통해서 교통비용과 통행시간의 절감이 가능하게 된다.

환경비용을 고려한 수출입컨테이너 화물의 운송경로 선택에 관한 연구 (Study on the Selection of Transport Route for Import-export Container Cargo based on the Environmental Cost)

  • 본 논문에서는 운송시간과 운송비용으로 구성된 희생량 모델과 운송경로의 환경비용을 이용한 수출입 컨테이너화물의 운송경로 선택에 관하여 고찰한다. 먼저 희생량 모델, 운송의 환경비용, 수출입 컨테이너화물의 물동량과 운송경로별 분담율에 대하여 간단히 살펴본다. 그리고 부산항의 수출입 컨테이너화물을 서울로 운송하는 경우를 가정하고 운송시간과 운송비용, 화물의 운송에 의하여 발생하는 환경비용에 대하여 고찰한다. 또한 환경비용을 고려한 희생량 모델을 이용하여 각 운송경로별 희생량을 계산한다. 마지막으로 계산된 운송경로의 희생량에 기초하여 수출입컨테이너 화물의 운송경로를 결정한다. 본 연구의 결과, 운송의 환경비용을 고려하는 경우 수출입컨테이너의 육상운송 분담율이 감소하며 연안운송 분담율이 증가하는 것을 확인하였다.

인터모달 추진 정책과 효과에 관한 비교연구 (Comparative Study of the Effects of the Intermodal Freight Transport Policies)

  • Purpose - The Korean government has devised intermodal transportation policies and granted subsidies to shippers and logistics companies that made a conversion of transportation means through the policies. This provides support by expanding the complex uniform railroad transportation and overhauling the deteriorated railroad facilities. As for 2013, however, the freight transportation percentage of railroad was 4.5% in tons and 8.5% in ton kilometers. Meanwhile, since the 1990s, developed countries such as the U.S. and Europe have been trying to expand intermodal freight transport with a legal and institutional support to build a logistics system corresponding with social and economic environmental changes. In this study, I set out to examine the effects of the intermodal freight transport policies in the EU and the U.S., and to explore the direction of setting up a rail intermodal transport system in South Korea. Research design, data, and methodology - The paper used a qualitative research methodology through the literature review. First, was an overview of Intermodal transportation in the EU, U.S. and UN. Second, it describes the development of transport in Europe and the U.S. with particular emphasis on intermodal freight transport. Third, it explores the direction of setting up a intermodal freight transport in South Korea. The last section contains concluding remarks. Results - As for the EU, it has been promoting integration between transport and intermodal logistics network designs while utilizing ITS or ICT and supports for rail freight intermodal by giving reduction to a facilities fee or subsidizing for rail freight in order to minimize the cost of external due to freight transport. On the other hand, as for the U.S., it has been made up of an industrial-led operating project and has been promoting it to improve accessibility between intermodal hubs and cargo terminals through intermodal corridor program, and an intermodal cargo hub access corridor projects, etc. Moreover, it has tried to construct intermodal transport system using ITS or ICT and to remove Barrier. As a result, in these countries, the proportion of intermodal freight transport is going to be the second significant transport compared with rail and maritime transport. An Effective rail intermodal transport system is needed in South Korea, as seen in the case of these countries. In order to achieve this object, the following points are required to establish radical infrastructure policy; diversify investment financing measures taken under public-private partnerships, legal responsibilities, improvement of utilization of existing facilities to connect the railway terminal and truck terminal, and enhancement service competitiveness through providing cargo tracking and security information that combines the ITS and ICT. Conclusions - This study will be used as a basis for policy and support for intermodal freight transport in South Korea. In the future, it is also necessary to examine from the perspective of the shipper companies using the rail intermodal transport, ie, recognition of shipper, needed institutional supports, and transportation demand forecasting and cost-effective analysis of the railway infrastructure systems improvement.
