In this study, functional transparent conducting layers were investigated for Si-based photoelectric applications. Double transparent conductive oxide (TCO) films were deposited on a Si substrate in the sequence of indium tin oxide (ITO) followed by aluminum-doped zinc oxide (AZO). First, we observed that the conductivity and transparency of AZO dominate the overall performance of the double TCO layers. Secondly, the double layered TCO film (consisting of AZO/ITO) deposited by sputtering was compared to a AZO-only film in terms of their optical and electrical properties. We prepared three different AZO films: ITO:3min/AZO:10min, ITO:5min/AZO:7min, and ITO:7min/AZO:4min. The results show that the optical properties (transmittance, absorbance, and reflection) can be controlled by the film composition. This may provide a significant pathway for the manipulation of the optical and electrical properties of photoelectric devices.

We investigated a study on the thermal degradation of boron doped zinc-oxide (BZO) layer which used as a transparent conducting layer on the Cu (In1-xGax) Se2 (CIGS) based thin film solar cells. Devices were annealed under the temperature of $100^{\circ}C$ or 100 hours and then Hall measurement was carried out to characterize the parameters of mobility (${\mu}Hall$), resistivity (${\rho}$), conductivity (${\sigma}$) and sheet resistance (Rsh). The initial values of ${\mu}Hall$, ${\rho}$, ${\sigma}$ and Rsh were $29.3cm^2$/$V{\cdot}s$, $2.1{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, $476.4{\Omega}^{-1}{\cdot}cm^{-1}$ and $19.1{\Omega}$/${\Box}$ respectively. After the annealing process, the values were $4.5cm^2$/$V{\cdot}s$, $12.8{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, $77.9{\Omega}^{-1}{\cdot}cm^{-1}$ and $116.6{\Omega}$/${\Box}$ respectively. We observed that ${\mu}Hall$ and ${\sigma}$ were decreased, and ${\rho}$ and Rsh were increased. In this study, BZO layer plays an important role of conducting path for electrons generated by incident light onthe CIGS absorption layer. Therefore, the degradation of BZO layer characterized by the parameters of ${\mu}Hall$, ${\rho}$, ${\sigma}$ and Rsh, affect to the cell efficiency.

In the fabrication of inverted top-emitting organic light emitting diodes (ITOLEDs), the sputtering process is needed for deposition of transparent conducting oxide (TCO) as top anode. Energetic particle bombardment, however, changes the physical properties of underlying layers. In this study, we examined plasma process effects on tungsten oxide ($WO_3$) hole injection layer (HIL). From our results, we suggest the theoretical mechanism to explain the correlation between the physical property changes caused by plasma process on $WO_3$ HIL and degradation of device performances.

Transparent conducting glasses exhibit high ohmic losses that are apparent in the case of large size Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs). In this study, we investigated the impact of current collectors over the efficiency of DSSCs. The Silver current collectors were prepared on both counter electrode and working electrode surface by screen printing method. For long term stability in electrolyte environment and also to avoid the charge recombination, current collectors are protected by sodium silicate overcoat layer. These current collectors were characterized for their microstructure parameters. Also current collector's stability in electrolyte environment has been investigated.

We report high work function Aluminum doped zinc oxide (AZO) films as insertion layer as a function of O2 flow rate between transparent conducting oxides (TCO) and hydrogenated amorphous silicon oxide (a-SiOx:H) layer to improve open circuit voltage (Voc) and fill factor (FF) for high efficiency thin film solar cell. However, amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) solar cells exhibit poor fill factors due to a Schottky barrier like impedance at the interface between a-SiOx:H windows and TCO. The impedance is caused by an increasing mismatch between the work function of TCO and that of p-type a-SiOx:H. In this study, we report on the silicon thin film solar cell by using as insertion layer of O2 reactive AZO films between TCO and p-type a-SiOx:H. Significant efficiency enhancement was demonstrated by using high work-function layers (4.95 eV at O2=2 sccm) for engineering the work function at the key interfaces to raise FF as well as Voc. Therefore, we can be obtained the conversion efficiency of 7 % at 13mA/cm2 of the current density (Jsc) and 63.35 % of FF.

We studied the effect of the silver grid size on graphene transparent conducting films for flexible organic solar cells (OSCs). The silver grid was used an assistant layer of the graphene to reduce the sheet resistance of substrates. Silver grid with various graphene sizes for optimizing transmittance and sheet resistance of substrates were fabricated on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates to form the hybrid films. The optimized grid geometry on the single layer graphene (SLG) was the grid dimension $200{\mu}m{\times}200{\mu}m{\times}50nm{\times}2{\mu}m$ (length ${\times}$ width ${\times}$ height ${\times}$ linewidth), where the sheet resistance was $55.73{\Omega}/square$ with the average transmittance of ~ 92.83 % at 550 nm. The properties of the OSCs fabricated using SLG with optimized silver grids on PET substrates show a short circuit current of $10.9mA/cm^2$, an open circuit voltage of 0.58 V, a fill factor of 60.8 %, and a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 3.9 %. The PCE was improved about 91% than that of the OSCs using the SLG without the silver grid. These results demonstrate that the optimized grid geometry to the based on the graphene transparent electrodes contribute to improving the performance of OSCs.
We propose a super-thin and light-weight liquid crystal cell, in which glass substrates are eliminated and polarizers are used as substrates. We fabricate a polarizer substrate by depositing a-SiOX as a buffer layer, indium-tin-oxide as a transparent conducting layer, and a-SiOX as an alignment layer on a polarizer sequentially at a low temperature. We use the ion-beam method to align liquid crystals on polarizer substrates.

A metal mesh TCE film is fabricated using a series of processes such as UV imprinting of a transparent trench pattern (with a width of $2-5{\mu}m$) onto a PET film, filling it with silver paste, wiping of the surface, and heat-curing the silver paste. In this work nanosized (40-50 nm) silver particles are synthesized and mixed with submicron (250-300 nm)-sized silver particles to prepare silver paste for the fabrication of metal mesh-type TCE films. The filling of these silver pastes into the patterned trench layer is examined using a specially designed filling machine and the rheological testing of the silver pastes. The wiping of the trench layer surface to remove any residual silver paste or particles is tested with various mixture solvents, and ethyl cellosolve acetate (ECA):DI water = 90:10 wt% is found to give the best result. The silver paste with 40-50 nm Ag:250-300 nm Ag in a 10:90 wt% mixture gives the highest electrical conductance. The metal mesh TCE film obtained with this silver paste in an optimized process exhibits a light transmittance of 90.4% and haze at 1.2%, which is suitable for TSP application.

Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) has widely been used as a transparent conductive oxide (TCE) for photovoltaic devices. Lately, flexibility of ITO becomes an issue as demand of flexible device increases. Several scientists have tried to substitute ITO to different materials such as conductive polymer, graphene, CNT, and metal nanowire because of ITO brittleness. Among the substitute materials, PEDOT:PSS has mostly paid attention because PEDOT:PSS has excellent flexibility and good conductivity. The conductivity of PEDOT:PSS increases up to 1000 S/cm with additives such as DMSO, EG, sorbitol, and so on. In our research group, we introduce a conductive polymer PEDOT:PSS as a buffer layer to improve not only flexibility but also conductivity. As PEDOT:PSS layer forms beneath ITO thin film (20 nm), sheet resistance decreases from $230{\Omega}$/${\Box}$ to $85{\Omega}$/${\Box}$ and crack initiation decreases from 4.5 mm to 3.5 mm as well. We have fabricated organic photovoltaic device and power conversion efficiencies using conventional ITO electrode and ITO/PEDOT:PSS hybrid electrode. The photovoltaic property such as power conversion efficiency for ITO/PEDOT:PSS hybrid electrode is comparable to the value obtained using conventional ITO electrode on glass substrate.

Despite recent efforts for fabricating flexible transparent conducting films (TCFs) with low resistance and high transmittance, several obstacles to meet the requirement of flexible displays still remain. Indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films, which have been traditionally used as the TCFs, have a serious obstacle in TCFs applications. SWNTs are the most appropriate materials for conductive films for displays due to their excellent high mechanical strength and electrical conductivity. Recently, it has been demonstrated that acid treatment is an efficient method for surfactant removal. However, the treatment has been reported to destroy most SWNT. In this work, the fabrication by the spraying process of transparent SWNT films and reduction of its sheet resistance by Au-ionic doping treatment on PET substrates is researched. Arc-discharge SWNTs were dispersed in deionized water by adding sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as surfactant and sonicated, followed by the centrifugation. The dispersed SWNT was spray-coated on PET substrate and dried on a hotplate. When the spray process was terminated, the TCF was immersed into deionized water to remove the surfactant and then it was dried on hotplate. The TCF film was then was doped with Au-ionic doping treatment, rinsed with deionized water and dried. The surface morphology of TCF was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy. The sheet resistance and optical transmission properties of the TCF were measured with a four-point probe method and a UV-visible spectrometry, respectively. This was confirmed and discussed on the XPS and UPS studies. We show that 87 ${\Omega}/{\Box}$ sheet resistances with 81% transmittance at the wavelength of 550 nm. The changes in electrical and optical conductivity of SWNT film before and after Au-ionic doping treatments were discussed. The effects of hole transport interface layer using Au-ionic doping SWNT on the performance of organic solar cells were investigated.
