This paper establishes in a new unified manner new mathematical models with core(iron) loss factor for two kinds of AC motors, induction and synchronous motors which are supposed to generate torque precisely or/and efficiently under vector controls. Our new models consist of three basic equations consistent with the others such as differential equation describing electromagnetic dynamics, torque equation describing torque generating mechanism, energy transmission equation describing how injected energy is wasted, saved or transmitted where all vector signals are defined in general frame of arbitrary instant angular velocity. It is clearly shown in our models that equivalent core-loss resistance can express appropriately and separately both eddy-current and hysteresis losses rather than mere vague loss. Proposed model of induction motor is the most compact in sense of the number of employed interior states and parameters. This compact model can also represent eddy-current and hysteresis losses of rotor as well as stator. For synchronous motor, saliency is taken into consideration. As well known model for cylindrical motor can be obtained directly from salient one as its special case.

This paper presents shift characteristics of a dual clutch transmission(DCT). To obtain the shift force, dynamic models of the DCT are constructed by using MATLAB/Simulink and considering the rotational inertia of every component and the target pre-select time. Dynamic models of the shift and clutch actuators are derived based on the experimental results of the dynamic characteristics test. Based on the dynamic model of the DCT synchronizer, control actuator and vehicle model, a DCT vehicle performance simulator is developed. Using the simulator, the shift force and speed of the relevant shafts are obtained. In addition, the torque and acceleration of actuators are calculated during the shift process by considering the engaging and disengaging dynamics of the two clutches. It is observed from the performance simulator that uninterrupted torque can be transmitted by proper control of the two clutches.
A swashplate type piston motor with a tripod joints is introduced to improve compactness and starting torque in conventional types of motor. If the driving torque of motor shaft is transmitted by utilizing the mechanism, its friction torque loss would be drastically reduced and mechanical efficiency would be improved because the lateral force on the piston of the rod type motor with tripod joints mechanism is relatively smaller than that of the conventional plunger type motor. In particular, kinematics analysis for the mechanism are done as a preliminary study to investigate the feasibility of the mechanism in the axial piston motor. General formulas are derived from the displacement and velocity analysis of the mechanism, showing relationships between output shaft and shoe holder motion. A series of numerical calculations are carried out for a medium size motor with 160cc/rev using the formulas and their graphical plots are shown as well.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of design parameters of modulating valve and hydraulic clutch on the shift quality of a power shuttle transmission using a computer simulation. Computer simulation models of a hydraulic control system and a power shuttle drive train were developed and verified by an experimental power train in a laboratory. The software EASY5 was used for the modeling and simulation of the power shuttle transmission. Results of the study were summarized as follows: For a good shift quality. it is required to reduce the transient torque transmitted to the output shaft of the transmission as much as possible. This may be achieved by reducing the modulating time and clutch pressure. It was found that the design parameters most significantly affecting the modulating time and clutch pressure were the spring constant and displacement of a load piston of the modulating valve, and the spring constant and damping of the clutch piston. The modulating time decreased as the spring constant increased and increased as the displacement of the load piston decreased. The transient torque decreased as the modulating time increased. However their relationships were not always linear. As the damping decreased, both the modulating pressure and time decreased, which also resulted in a decrease in the transient torque. The spring constant of the clutch piston affected the modulating time and the peak transient torque. As the spring constant of the clutch increased, the peak transient torque decreased.
A dynamic model of a power shuttle transmission was developed and its validity was verified using the experimental data obtained from a transmission test bench. A 40㎾, 4WD tractor was also modeled using an application software EASY5 to investigate parameters and their effects on the power shifting performance. For a tractor model, the manual reverse gear was replaced by a power shuttle transmission. The tractor model also included an engine, main-gears for transmission, wheels, differentials and planet gears. Using the tractor model, the effects of the parameters such as modulating pressure and time, engine speed, tractor speed. tractor weight. reverse to forward speed ratio and torsional damper on the transient characteristics at starting and shuttle shifting were investigated by the computer simulation. The transient characteristics were represented by variations in clutch pressure, torque transmitted to input shaft and driving wheels, and power transmission capacity of the clutch. It was found that the modulating pressure and time affected most significantly the torque transmission and shifting time. The input torque, axle torque, power transmission capacity of the clutch and transmission time all increased with increase in engine speed, tractor speed. tractor weight and ratio of reverse to forward speeds. However, the axle torque decreased with tractor speed. Both the axle torque and power transmission capacity of the clutch also decreased with the ratio of reverse to forward speeds.
Wind load characteristics is investigated for vibration analysis of wind turbine gearbox. A normal wind model assumed, of which the wind velocity is increased according to the height from ground. A blast wind model is assumed, of which the maximum velocity is located at the center and the velocity profile is normally distributed. The periodical torque and bending moments transmitted to the main shaft of wind turbine are investigated. The average values and the harmonic terms of the transmitted moments are studied on the wind direction of range $-45^{\circ}{\sim}45^{\circ}$ and the bending moment characteristics are examined, which is regarded as the main source of the misalignment of gear train.
This paper presents the key idea of handlebar reaction force and pedal resistance force generation in creating life-like feeling in KAIST bicycle simulator. Also, it provides methods to evaluate its reality level with given reaction force profile. In KAIST bicycle simulator, the pedal resistance force and the handlebar reaction force are calculated using the bicycle dynamic model. With the information handlebar angle, rider´s pedaling torque and road profile transmitted from the handlebar system, the pedal system and the visual part, the bicycle dynamics engine calculates the handlebar reaction force and the pedal velocity. The handlebar system and the pedal resistance system generate reaction force and resistance force transmitted from dynamics engine. However to make more realistic riding feeling ...
The most general feature of contact zone among the mechanical components is elliptical circle. In particular, continuously variable transmission (CVT) of toroidal type has elliptical shape of contact zone under the elastohydrodynamic lubrication condition, where the power is transmitted by the shearing the efluid. Due to the traction of the shear behaviors of lubricant over the small elliptical contact zone, high power of torque is transmitted. During the power transmission, many kinds of mechanical movements occur such as squeezing, sliding, rolling and spinning. The spinning effect that is not common contact behavior in tribological components frequently makes significant abnormal wear damage. In this work, the analysis of elliptical contact of elastohydrodynamic lubrication with spin effect is performed, which will give very useful information to understand the traction behaviors in toroidal type of CVT system.
It is important to have a precise model for the clutch damper in order to simulate the entire powertrain of a vehicle and predict the responses of the system. In this research, we developed a new model in which the spring used in the clutch damper is divided into a finite number of elements. The model takes many unique properties of arc-shaped springs into consideration and is anticipated to be more precise than conventional simple models. With the model, two meaningful results were presented which can be utilized afterwards. One is a simulation concerning the peak torque transmitted via the clutch damper. The other is a simulation that shows the hysteretic characteristics of the clutch damper.
A virtual reality system is implemented for the operator supervising a robot's operation at a remote site. For this implementation, a two D.O.F force-reflective joystick is designed to reflect the force/torque measured at the end of robotic manipulator and to generate the motion command for the robot by the operator using this joystick. In addition, the visual information that is captured by a CCD camera, is transmitted to the remote operator and is displayed on a CRT monitor. The operator who is holding the force reflective joystick and watching the CRT monitor can resolve unexpected problems that the robot confronts with. That is, the robot performs the tasks autonomously unless it confronts with unexpected events that can be resolved by only the operator. To demonstrate the feasibility of this system, a remote peg-in-hole operation is implemented and the experimental data are shown.
