The New X-ray Induced Electron Emission Spectrometer

  • The new spectrometer for X-ray Induced Electron Emission Spectroscopy (XIEES) .has been recently developed in KRISS in collaboration with PTI (Russia). The spectrometer allows to perform research using the XAFS, SXAFS, XANES techniques (D.C.Koningsberger and R.Prins, 1988) as well as the number of techniques from XIEES field(L.A.Bakaleinikov et all, 1992). The experiments may be carried out with registration of transmitted through the sample x-rays (to investigate bulk samples) or/and total electron yield (TEY) from the sample surface that gives the high (down to several atomic mono-layers in soft x-ray region) near surface sensitivity. The combination of these methods together give the possibility to obtain a quantitative information on elemental composition, chemical state, atomic structure for powder samples and solids, including non-crystalline materials (the long range order is not required). The optical design of spectrometer is made according to Johannesson true focusing schematics and presented on the Fig.1. Five stepping motors are used to maintain the focusing condition during the photon energy scan (crystal angle, crystal position along rail, sample goniometer rail angle, sample goniometer position along rail and sample goniometer angle relatively of rail). All movements can be done independently and simultaneously that speeds up the setting of photon energy and allows the using of crystals with different Rowland radil. At present six curved crystals with different d-values and one flat synthetic multilayer are installed on revolver-type monochromator. This arrangement allows the wide range of x-rays from 100 eV up to 25 keV to be obtained. Another 4 stepping motors set exit slit width, sample angle, channeltron position and x-ray detector position. The differential pumping allows to unite vacuum chambers of spectrometer and x-ray generator avoiding the absorption of soft x-rays on Be foil of a window and in atmosphere. Another feature of vacuum system is separation of walls of vacuum chamber (which are deformed by the atmospheric pressure) from optical elements of spectrometer. This warrantees that the optical elements are precisely positioned. The detecting system of the spectrometer consists of two proportional counters, one scintillating detector and one channeltron detector. First proportional counter can be used as I/sub 0/-detector in transmission mode or by measuring the fluorescence from exit slit edge. The last installation can be used to measure the reference data (that is necessary in XANES measurements), in this case the reference sample is installed on slit knife edge. The second proportional counter measures the intensity of x-rays transmitted through the sample. The scintillating detector is used in the same way but on the air for the hard x-rays and for alignment purposes. Total electron yield from the sample is measured by channeltron. The spectrometer is fully controlled by special software that gives the high flexibility and reliability in carrying out of the experiments. Development of Hard-wired Instrumentation and Control for the Neutral Beam Test Facility at KAERI

  • Since the start of the KSTAR (Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research) project, Instrumentation and Control (I&C) of the Neutral Beam Test Facility (NB-TF) has been striving to answer diverse requests arising from various facets during the project's development and construction phases. Hard-wired electrical circuits have been designed, tested, fabricated, and finally installed to the relevant parts of the system. In relation to the vacuum system I&C, controlling functions for the rotary pumps, a Roots pump, two turbomolecular pumps, and four cryosorption pumps have been constructed. I&C for the ion source operation are the temperature and flow rate signal monitoring, Langmuir probe signal measurements, gradient grid current measurements, and arc detector circuit. For the huge power system to be monitored or safely operated, many temperature measurement functions have also been implemented for the beam line components like the neutralizer, bending magnet, ion dump, and calorimeter. Nearly all of the control and probe signals between the NB test stand and the control room were made to be transmitted through the optical cables. Failures of coolant flow or beam line vacuum pressure were made to be safely blocked from influencing the system by an appropriate interlock circuit that will shut down the extraction voltage application to the system or prevent damages to the vacuum components. Preliminary estimation of the beam power through the calorimetric measurement shows that 87.9% of the total power of the 60kV/18A beam with 200 seconds duration is absorbed by the calorimeter surface. Most of these I&C results would be highly appropriate for the construction of the main NBI facility for the KSTAR national fusion research project.

Reducing Vibration of a Centrifugal Turbo Blower for FCEV Using Vibrational Power Flow (진동 동력 흐름 기법을 이용한 FCEV용 원심형 터보 블로워의 진동 저감)

  • A centrifugal turbo blower is one of the part to generate electric power of fuel cell electric vehicle(FCEV). In order to generate the electric power of FCEV, the centrifugal turbo blower operates at very high speed above 30,000rpm in order to increase the pressure of the air, which supplied to a stack of FCEV, using rotation of its impeller blades. Vibration which originated from the blower is generated by unbalance of mechanical components, rotation of bearings and rotating asymmetry that rotate at high speed. The vibration is transmitted to receiving structure through vibration isolators and it can causes serious problems in the noise, vibration and harshness(NVH) performance. Thus, the study about reducing this kind of vibration is an important task. Quantifying the effectiveness of vibration isolation can be effectively accomplished by using vibrational power flow because relative contributions of each isolator to the total vibration transmission can be easily represented. In this paper, vibrational power flow is applied to the centrifugal turbo blower mounted on FCEV in order to analyze the most dominant vibration transmitting path. As a result, the main contributor among four isolators is a mount #3 of the blower. Also, a 30 percent lowering of the mount #3 stiffness shows 34 percent decrement of vibrational power flow by the simulation.

TPC Algorithm for Fault Diagnosis of CAN-Based Multiple Sensor Network System (CAN 기반 다중센서 네트워크 시스템의 고장진단을 위한 TPC알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes a new TPC (Transmission Priority Change) algorithm which is used to diagnose failures of a CAN (Controller Area Network) based network system for the oil tank monitoring. The TPC algorithm is aimed to increase the total amount of data transmission and to minimize the latency for an urgent message by changing transmission priority. The urgency of the data transmission has been determined by the conditions of sensors. There are multiple sensors inside of the oil tank, such as temperature, valve, pressure and level sensors. When the sensors operate normally, the sensory data can be collected through the CAN network by the monitoring system. However when there is a dangerous situation or failure situation happened at a sensor, the data need to be handled quickly by the monitoring system, which is implemented by using the TPC algorithm. The effectiveness of the TPC algorithm has been verified by the real experiments. In addition, this paper introduces a method that people can figure out the condition of oil tanks and also can perform the fault diagnosis in real-time by using transmitted packet data. By applying this TPC algorithm to various industries, the convenience and reliability of multiple sensors network system can be improved.

A study on the hydraulic limited slip differential system (유압식 차동제한장치에 관한 연구)

  • The limited slip differential(LSD) is a device which enables the driving force to be transmitted from one slipping wheel to another wheel in such case that the car is stuck in clay or snow. When the unwanted slipping occurs on one wheel, the LSD temporarily restraints the differential motion to transmit the driving force in the other wheel. So far, many types of LSD were developed such as mechanical lock type, disk clutch type, viscous coupling type, torsion type and multiple clutch type. However these types of LSD is too complicated and expensive, so it is used only for 4WD outdoor vehicles, military vehicles, and a portion of deluxe car. So, many studies has been devoted to improve new types of LSD to cover those demerits of existing LSDs that the hydraulic LSD is developed as arepresentative result of that. The hydraulic LSD which uses the principle of gear pump is packed with viscous oil in tight container. When a slip occurs on one wheel, the hydraulic LSD generates torque caused by high oil pressure in the container. This study has been devoted to suggest an improved hydraulic LSD. In order to achieve it, we designed a new type of hydraulic LSD, produced it and did a rig test with it on real vehicle. From the rig test, it has been confirmed that the new type of hydraulic LSD can be directly applied to exiting vehicles without changing the design criteria

  • A number of very promising applications such as health monitoring and U-Health of ubiquitous techniques has attracted interest in recent years. Because it can observes the condition of patient from long distance using the equipment which combines with radio communication and medical monitoring system. If it is at emergency situation, it can disposes the condition of the patient. In this paper, we propose the new data format and the transmission communication system of combination medical information with the bluetooth. And we produce the on-board system which transmits the medical information. This system integrated the blood pressure and glucose monitor of personal medical equipment, and the medical information which obtained from on-board system acquires through the gateway with the bluetooth. Medical information is transmitted to the tele-monitor server by the wireline network. We evaluated the proposed system under the laboratory environment and confirmed the excellent performance of transmission of the medical information.

ESTIMATION OF PRECIPITABLE WATER VAPOR USING THE GPS (GPS를 이용한 대류권의 수증기량 측정)

  • The radio waves transmitted from GPS satellites is delayed by the troposphere as they propagate to Earth-based GPS receivers. The troposphere delay is usually divided into two parts, the dry delay due to the atmospheric gases and the wet delay due to the water vapor. In this study for the month of May in 1998 the GPS data from two stations(Taejon, Suwon) were used to estimate the total troposphere delay in the zenith direction by the least square method. The dry delay in the zenith direction can be evaluated by using surface pressure values at the station, then the zenith wet delay is obtained by removing the zenith dry delay from the total delay. The zenith wet delay is strongly correlated with the total precipitable water. The quality of the estimate has been assessed by comparison with radiosonde data at Osan. We found the food agreement in precipitable water of the GPS estimates and the radiosonde data. The standard deviation of the difference of the difference between the GPS and radiosonde observations was 3.68mm at Suwon.

  • Recently, environmental problems have been deteriorating rapidly. Therefore, there is an urgent need to establish policies and research in the conservation of the global environment. Many researchers are studied in environment systems to prevent and reduce pollution of water, air and soil actively. In this paper, several parameters such as temperature, humidity, illumination, barometric pressure, dew point, water quality data, and air conditions are collected and transmitted thorough wireless sensor network. The field server is located in the coastal and marine area so that any abrupt changes can be detected quickly. In addition, WSN based flooding routing protocol for efficient data transmission is designed to support and monitor information of climate and marin factors.

  • In this paper, we present a Smart Water Treatment Plant using Zigbee USN devices and a real-time monitoring system in K-water Flow Meter Calibration Center Building. For verification, the data of vertical type WTP such as flow rate, pressure, water level and water temperature are obtained by the Zigbee USN devices, operating in 2.45 GHz band, and be wirelessly surveilled by the real-time monitoring system. The received data from the sensor is transmitted to the data processing device, and then the processed data can be monitored on a smart phone. Consequently, the pilot plant based on the low-cost and high-efficiency USN has been developed with the performance analysis for the communication network and remote monitoring system on mobile devices.

  • The stress waves generated by the mechanical energies by impact or the chemical energies by the explosions are transmitted through medium. The wave propagation process through medium is a very complicated procedure due to the reflections and refractions of the waves at the free surfaces and interfaces. In this study the pressure independent Von-Mises model is employed for the wave propagation analysis in the layered systems. Governing equations of this study are conservation equations of momentum and mass in Lagrangian coordinate system which is fixed to the material. Due to the shock-front which violates the continuity assumptions inherent in the differential equations numerical artificial viscosity is used to spread the shock front over several computational zones. These equations are solved by Finite Difference Method with discretized time and space coordinates. The associate normality flow rule as a plastic theory is implemented to find the plastic strains.
