As the use of school buses becomes more common, related laws are being enacted, such as making it mandatory for children to check school bus dropouts due to frequent accidents caused by the negligence of school bus drivers and their guardians. In this paper, we propose a safe school bus system that links efficient radio-frequency identification (RFID) and mobile APP in terms of energy utilization and cost. The school bus system uses RFID cards to check information on children boarding the school bus, and real-time SMS transmission allows parents to safely send their children to and from school. Instructors on the school bus can check their children's disembarkation information once more through APP, preventing various accidents that may occur to children left on the bus. Due to the automation of the school bus operation log, daycare center teachers can not only check the information on getting on and off, but also manage the information on the attendance and discharge of the students.

A superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) is a power device that exploits superconducting transition to control currents and enhances the flexibility, stability and reliability of the power system within a few milliseconds. With a high phase transition speed, high critical current densities and little AC loss, high-temperature superconducting (HTS) wires are suitable for a resistive-type SFCL. However, HTS wires due to the lack of optimization research are rather inefficient to directly apply to a fault current limiter in terms of the design and capacity, for the existing method relied the characteristics. Therefore, in order to develop a suitable wire for an SFCL, it is necessary to enhance critical current uniformity, select optimal stabilizer materials and conducted research on the development of uniform stabilizer layering technology. The high temperature superconducting wires manufactured by this study get an average critical current of 804 A/12mm-width at the length of 710m; therefore, conducted research was able to secure economic performance by improving efficiency, reducing costs, and reducing size.
This study presents an analysis of the human body channel as an electric signal path using body impulse response (BIR). The human body communications (HBC) has recently emerged as an effective signal transmission method to create wireless body area networks (WBAN). We provide body channel characteristics based on measured BIR in a proper experimental environment for the HBC using capacitive coupling with a customized channel sounding device, which can be applied as a guideline for the HBC system design. The frequency response of the BIR, extracted by a customized signal processing for the measure signals, shows the channel path loss (CPS) between 0 MHz and 100 MHz with an average CPS of approximately 46.8 dB. In addition, the relative noise power distributions can provide estimations on the signal to noise ratio at the HBC receiver in terms of capacitor and resistor values in the measured frequency band and the frequency band lower than 3 MHz considering the baseband signal detection.
Broad studies have addressed the issue of structural element damage identification, however, rubber bearing, as a key component of load transmission between the superstructure and substructure, is essential to the operational safety of a bridge, which should be paid more attention to its health condition. However, regarding the limitations of the traditional bearing damage detection methods as well as few studies have been conducted on this topic, in this paper, inspired by the model updating-based structural damage identification, a two-stage bearing damage identification method has been proposed. In the first stage, we deduce a novel bearing damage localization indicator, called element relative MSE, to accurately determine the bearing damage location. In the second one, the prior knowledge of bearing damage localization is combined with sailfish optimization (SFO) to perform the bearing damage estimation. In order to validate the feasibility, a numerical example of a 5-span continuous beam is introduced, also the noise robustness has been investigated. Meanwhile, the effectiveness and engineering applicability are further verified based on an experimental simply supported beam and actual engineering of the I-40 Bridge. The obtained results are good, which indicate that the proposed method is not only suitable for simple structures but also can accurately locate the bearing damage site and identify its severity for complex structure. To summarize, the proposed method provides a good guideline for the issue of bridge bearing detection, which could be used to reduce the difficulty of the traditional bearing failure detection approach, further saving labor costs and economic expenses.

The digital twin-based smart pipe integrated management system is an integrated solution for efficient operation and monitoring that we propose. We buried a waterway pipe underground with self-diagnostic and condition monitoring sensor functions. This pipe sends sensing data and accumulates it. Our system analyzes data to make smart decisions. The main functions of this system are remote control and monitoring. Therefore, "how to configure monitoring in real time" is a big issue. For this purpose, we designed a special real-time-based agent function. In this paper, to solve this problem, a layered architecture was proposed based on transmission points where sensor data are exchanged. An agent was placed in each layer to look at the lower layer and periodically monitor whether there were any changes in the sensor in real time. Finally, the agent system was designed and the conceptual model level was implemented to verify excellence.

Smart farms are steadily increasing in research to minimize labor, energy, and quantity put into crops as IoT technology and artificial intelligence technology are combined. However, research on efficiently managing crop growth information in smart farms has been insufficient to date. In this paper, we propose a management technique that can efficiently monitor crop growth information by applying autonomous sensors to smart farms. The proposed technique focuses on collecting crop growth information through autonomous sensors and then recycling the growth information to crop cultivation. In particular, the proposed technique allocates crop growth information to one slot and then weights each crop to perform load balancing, minimizing interference between crop growth information. In addition, when processing crop growth information in four stages (sensing detection stage, sensing transmission stage, application processing stage, data management stage, etc.), the proposed technique computerizes important crop management points in real time, so an immediate warning system works outside of the management criteria. As a result of the performance evaluation, the accuracy of the autonomous sensor was improved by 22.9% on average compared to the existing technique, and the efficiency was improved by 16.4% on average compared to the existing technique.

In cold-formed steel (CFS) structures, such as trusses, transmission towers and portal frames, the use of back-to-back built-up CFS unequal angle sections are becoming increasingly popular. In such an arrangement, intermediate welds or screw fasteners are required at discrete points along the length, preventing the angle sections from buckling independently. Limited research is available in the literature on axial strength of back-to-back built-up CFS unequal angle sections. The issue is addressed herein. This paper presents an experimental investigation reported by the authors on back-to-back built-up CFS unequal angle sections with intermediate stiffeners under axial compression. The load-axial shortening behaviour along with the deformed shapes at failure are reported. A nonlinear finite element (FE) model was then developed, which includes material non-linearity, geometric imperfections and modelling of intermediate fasteners. The FE model was validated against the experimental test results, which showed good agreement, both in terms of failure loads and deformed shapes at failure. The validated finite element model was then used for the purpose of a parametric study comprising 96 models to investigate the effect of longer to shorter leg ratios, stiffener provided in the longer leg, thicknesses and lengths on axial strength of back-to-back built-up CFS unequal angle sections. Four different thicknesses and seven different lengths (stub to slender columns) with three overall widths to the overall depth (B/D) ratios were investigated in the parametric study. Axial strengths obtained from the experimental tests and FE analyses were used to assess the performance of the current design guidelines as per the Direct Strength Method (DSM); obtained comparisons show that the current DSM is conservative by only 7% and 5% on average, while predicting the axial strengths of back-to-back built-up CFS unequal angle sections with and without the stiffener, respectively.
Optical phase conjugation is one of techniques capable of compensating for distortion due to chromatic dispersion and nonlinearity, which are essential for long-distance transmission of wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) signal. We proposed and analyzed a way to solve the limitations of this technology through dispersion map with periodic dispersion profile. In the proposed system, optical phase conjugator (OPC) is placed at the position of 1:2 or 2:1 of the entire link, and the dispersion profile of dispersion map has periodic shape in the form of a sine wave or an inverse-sine wave. It was confirmed that the effective compensation of the distorted 960 Gb/s WDM signal was further improved through the proposed periodic dispersion map when the OPC was located at the 1:2 point instead of the 2:1 point of the entire link. In addition, it was found that the maximum RDPS allocated to fiber span should be 1,800 ps/nm or more in order to increase the design flexibility of dispersion-managed link with the proposed periodic dispersion map.

A highly sensitive refractive index bio-sensor based on grating-assisted strip directional coupler (GASDC) is proposed. The sensor is designed using two asymmetric strip waveguides with a top-loaded grating structure in one of the waveguides. Maximum light couples from one waveguide to the other at the resonance wavelength satisfying phase-matching condition (PMC), and it shows that the change in phase-matching condition with the change in refractive index of the analyte medium in the cover region can be used as a measure of the sensitivity. The proposed sensor will be an on-chip device with a high refractive index sensitivity, and the sensor configuration offers a low propagation loss, thereby enhancing the sensitivity. Furthermore, variation of the sensitivity with the waveguide parameters of sensor is evaluated to optimize the design.
