Science, technology, society and humanities (STSH) fusion research is aimed at creating new research areas and methods that can resolve complicated issues in society that cannot be solved by a single academic discipline. This study identifies initiatives that can promote STSH fusion research in Korea. We review the definition and characteristics of STSH fusion research to analyze the necessity of STSH fusion research with a focus on the structural changes in the S&T environment. The emergence and diffusion of generic technologies, transition to post catch-up innovation mode, and the evolution of policy to the third generation innovation policy are identified as notable changes. This paper briefly reviews the status of fusion research underway and presents initiatives to promote STSH fusion research.

The knowledge based economy requires more and more people to learn new knowledge and skills in a timely and effective manner. These needs and new technology such as computer and Internet are fueling a transition in e-learning. We did the case study of K company, which is leading the business to business e-learning in Korea. We investigated prior studies about e-learning and deduced the major variables composed of learner, tutor, infrastructure, contents, and practice. And then we suggested the successful way of doing the operation for the company's e-learning. We hope that this research will help the companies that have introduced or consider the adoption of e-learning.

The effects of surface energyon the wetting transition for impinging water droplets were experimentally investigated on the chemically modified WOx nanowire surfaces. We could modify the surface energy of the nanostructures through chemisorption of alkyltrichlorosilanes with various carbon chain lengths and by the UV-enhanced decomposition of self assembled monolayer (SAM) molecules chemically adsorbedon the array. Three surface wetting states could be identified through the balance between antiwetting and wetting pressures. This approach establishes simple strategy for the design criteria for water-repellent surface to impinging droplets.

This paper proposes a soft-transition control strategy for a three phase ZCS(Zero Current Switching) inverter circuit. Each phase leg of inverter circuit consists of an LC resonant tank, two main switches, and one auxiliary switches. This paper presents design consideration via a study example of a three phase prototype inverter for motor drives. A simple device tester with zero current switching capability is proposed to select eligible auxiliary switches. The principle of operation, feature and design considerations are illustrated and verified through the experiment with a 2.2kW 5kHz IGBT based experimental circuit.

This study is an exploratory investigation on how national R&D investments decisions are made in Korea. For developing system dynamic model, we are interested in locating three structural dilemma, occurring with the Korean NIS. In so doing, we intend to devise the ways of ameliorating problems within the NIS investment decision-making process by providing policy implications. We identify delays and side effects during transition periods between different stages of technology innovation by perceiving the switching pattern dynamically, in which form of technologies shifts from one to another stage like paradigm shift, when the R&D investment reaches a certain stock. It is also suggested that the development of strategies is necessary in order to enhance efficiency of technological development process.

Korea is in the middle of a transition from the catch-up stage to the post catch-up stage. This requires a new approach, a new perspective, and a new strategy to survive in the new environment. This research investigates the post catch-up research activities in the public sector, including universities and national research institutes. In this case study, the experts and research teams at the highest level in the world are introduced, and research environments and know-how possessed by the experts and research teams are analyzed. The cases shows that the post catch-up research teams have research patterns to open new research field and integrate prior knowledge base with new knowledges from other research field. They succeed in producing highly regarded research results and making research platform for further advanced research.

ERP is a new concept which attempts to combine the applications of BRP and information technology in order to enhance the competitive positions of the firms in a rapidly changing environment. It is expected that a paradigm transition will take place which transforms the current practice of in-house development into the introduction of ERP packages. In response to this trend. ERP introduction strategies need to be investigated. This paper reports the case study of Standard Telecom Co. in successfully implementing Oracle ERP applications package. It describes the background, implementation strategy, project management, benefits, and the critical success factors of the Vanguard Project.

It is not to observe that a decision-maker frequently changes his choice strategy in the repetitive gamble choice situation. This change in risk preference attitude, however, is not well explained with the existing gamble choice models, such as Bell's disappointment-elation model which is an interesting extension of the classical MEU model. This paper shows that this change in risk preference attitude should be interpreted as a systematic transition of "d" and "e", the disappointment and elation constants of Bell's model repectively. A laboratory experiment is also performed to identify the factors which greatly affect the decision-makers' risk preference attitude change. The number of consecutive successes/failures and the amount of remaining capital found to be statistically significant factors.significant factors.

The nature of the exotic stellar corpses which reincarnate by consuming their companion is reviewed. Apart from sucking life from their partners, they are actually eating the doomed companions away by their deadly and powerful particle/radiation beams. Such situation resembles that a female "black widow" spider that eats its mate after mating. These celestial zombies are called - Millisecond pulsars (MSPs). In this review article, I will focus on the effort of Fermi Asian Network (FAN) in exploring these intricating objects over the last five years. Two special classes of MSPs are particularly striking. Since Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope has started surveying the gamma-ray sky, the population of "black widows" has been boosted. Another dramatic class is so-called "redbacks" (Australian cousin of "black widows") which has just emerged in the last few years. These MSPs provide us with a long-sought missing link in understanding the transition between accretion-powered and rotation-powered systems. The strategy of hunting MSPs through mulitwavelength observations of the unidentified Fermi objects is also reviewed.
