  • Four polymorphic forms (I, II, III and IV) of hydrochlorothiazide have been characterized on the basis of x-ray diffractometry and differential thermal analysis. Form I was obtained by crystallization from N, N-dimethylformamide and Form II was crystallized from hot methanol. Form III was precipitated from sodium hydroxide aqueous solution by treatment with hydrochloric acid and Form IV was crystallized from 50% methanol. The metastable form I was a most stable form among four polymorphs, which was stable more than ten months at room temperature. The thermodynamic parameters such as heat of solution, enthalpy, entropy, free energy difference and transition temperature were determined by the measurement of intrinsic dissolution rate. The transition temperature and the heat of transition between the metastable Form I an Form II were determined to be $299.15^{\circ}$K and 5.03 Kcal/mole, respectively and free energy difference ($\delta$ F) was 302. 13 cal/mole. Diuretic action of these four polymorphic forms was also evaluated by monitoring the difference in urinary excretion of sodium, potassium and magnesium in rats.

  • A numerical analysis is performed using two dimensional axisymmetric RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) equations system on the transition sequence of the Integrated Rocket Ramjet and the unsteady reacting flow-field in a ramjet combustor during unstable combustion. The mode transition of an axisymmetric ramjet is numerically simulated starting from the initial condition of the boost end phase of the entire ramjet. The unsteady reacting flow-field within combustor is computed for varying injection area. In calculation results of the transition, the terminal normal shock is occurred at the downstream of diffuser throat section and no notable combustor pressure oscillation is observed after certain time of the inlet port cover open. For the case of a small injection area at the same equivalence ratio, periodic pressure oscillation in the combustor leads to the terminal shock expulsion from the inlet and hence the buzz instability occurred.

  • Bifurcation analysis of cell cycle regulation in the budding yeast is performed basedon the mathematical model by Chen et al [Molecular biology of cell, 11:369-391, 2000]. On the bifurcation diagram, locations of both stable and unstable solutions of the nonlinear differential equations are presented by taking the mass of cell as a controlparameter. Based on the bifurcation diagram, dynamic mechanism underlying the 'start' transition, initiation of a new round of cell cycle, and the 'finish' transition, completion of cell cycle and returning back to the initial state, is discussed: the 'start' transition is a transition from a stable fixed solution for a small mass and to an oscillatory state for a large mass, and the 'finish' transition is a switching back to the stable fixed solution from the oscillatory state. To understand the role of the genes during the cell cycle regulation, bifurcation diagrams for the mutants are compared with that of the wild type.

  • Using a person-centered approach, the current study investigated latent profiles for the emotional and behavioral problems of students in sixth-grade in elementary school and second grade of middle school. The aim was to explore latent transition patterns and verify the factors affecting the transitions. The participants were 1,937 adolescents who responded to the 3rd year (6th grade of elementary school; Time 1), 4th year (1st grade of middle school), and 5th year (2nd grade of middle school; Time 2) of the Korean Children Youth Panel Study. Latent profile and latent transition analyses were performed. The results were as follows: first, the latent profile of emotional and behavioral problems changed from Time 1 to Time 2. The latent groups at Time 1 were classified into low, moderate, high, and externalizing-dominant, whereas at Time 2, five groups were identified: low, moderate, high, externalizing-dominant, and withdrawal-dominant. Second, transition analyses revealed that although 22.3-57.0% of latent groups remained unchanged, there were significant changes over time between groups, as a new group ('withdrawal-dominant') emerged in Time 2. Third, different factors influenced the latent profile transition of emotional and behavioral problems depending on the transition pattern. Higher levels of self-esteem, better relationships with peers and teachers, and lower levels of parental inconsistency meant emotional and behavioral problems had not worsened at Time 2. The results suggest that early interventions are needed during the transition from childhood to early adolescence.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the perception of role transition from a student nurse to a registered nurse among senior year nursing students and to examine factors affecting their role transition. Methods: A descriptive survey with convenience sampling was conducted in four nursing colleges in Seoul, South Korea. Data were collected using a self-administrated questionnaire. Four instruments including role transition, self-esteem, interpersonal relationships and anxiety during clinical practicum were used and the students'demographics were also collected. A multiple logistic regression was used to identify predictors for the role transition. Results: A total of 233 nursing students were surveyed and final analysis was conducted utilizing 226 participants. Mean point of perceived role transition (5 point scale) was $3.34{\pm}0.44$. In a multiple regression model, high self-esteem, good interpersonal relationships, low anxiety during clinical practicum, and high satisfaction in college life were significant predictors of a smooth transition (Adj. $R^2$=.32, F=22.28, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings suggest that role transition from a student nurse to a registered nurse is facilitated through the establishment of programs to improve self-esteem and interpersonal relationships and to reduce anxiety during clinical practicum.

  • This paper investigates how firm age, size and ownership are related with job creation and destruction, and how these patterns differ across transition and non-transition economies. The analysis finds that age is inversely related with gross job creation and net job creation in the two samples. This finding is consistent with the theory of the learning effect. The relationship between age and job destruction is indifferent in non-transition economies. On the contrary, old firms in transition economies destroy more jobs than young ones. The paper further establishes an inverse relationship between size and gross job creation in the two groups. However, there is divergence between the two samples; small firms in non-transition economies also exhibit a higher gross job destruction rate. Consequently large firms have a higher net job creation rate. In transition economies, small and large firms exhibit similar rates of job destruction. But small firms retain a higher net job creation rate. A more intriguing finding is that state owned firms do not underperform domestic private ones. This means these countries may be using soft budget constraint which allows state owned firms to overstaff. Finally, crowding out of SMEs by foreign owned firms is not evident in transition economies.

  • This paper proposes a new TRF(Transition Rise\Fall)delay model for the effcient hazard analysis in a 5-valued logic sumulation enviroment. For the hazzard for a given logic circuit, the timing analysis is first performed by means of a 5-valued logic simulator which uses the TRF delay model which incorporates the response delay for a reponse state with the transition delay for a transition state of an elment, and then hazards are detected through investigating timing relations.Simulation examples and experimental results are also given to demostrate the pradticability of the proposed methods.

  • In this paper, we proposed the method for detecting text region on image using DCT-coefficient and transition-map analysis. The detecting rate of traditional method for detecting text region using DCT-coefficient analysis is high, but false positive detecting rate also is high and the method using transition-map often reject true text region in step of verification because of sticky threshold. To overcome these problems, we generated PTRmap(Promising Text Region map) through DCT-coefficient analysis and applied PTRmap to method for detecting text region using transition map. As the result, the false positive detecting rate decreased as compared with the method using DCT-coefficient analysis, and the detecting rate increased as compared with the method using transition map.

  • The location and the shape of a freshwater transition zone in a coastal aquifer are affected by many hydraulic variables. To data most works to determine the effects of these variables are limited to qualitative comparison of transiton zones. In this work characteristics of transition zones are analyzed quantitatively. The investigation is limited to a steady-state transition zones. Three dimensionless variables are defined to represent characteristics of steady-state transition zones. They are maximum introsion length, thickness, and degree of stratification. Effects of principal hydraulic variables (velocity and dispersivity) on these characteristics are studied using a numerical model. Dimensional analysis is used to systematically analyze entire model results. Effects of velocity and dispersivity are seem clearly. From this study, increase in velocity is found to cause shrinkage of transition zones. This observation contradicts claims by some that, because dispersion is proportional to velocity, increase in velocity would cause expansion of transition zones.
