In a gas insulated substation (GIS), Very Fast Transient Over-voltages (VFTOs) are generated due to switching operations and ground faults. These fast transients are associated with high frequency components of the order of a few hundreds of MHz. These transients may cause internal faults i.e., layer-to-layer faults or minor faults in a capacitively graded bushing, which is one of the important pieces of terminal equipment for GIS. In the present study, the PSPICE model has been developed to calculate the voltage distribution across the layers of 420kV graded bushing for high frequency pulses of rise time 1 to 50ns, which simulate the VFTO. For this simulation, an equivalent electrical network of bushing with different equivalent layers has been considered. The effect of different equivalent layers modeling circuits on the non-uniform voltage factor has been analysed. The influence of copper strip inductance on voltage distribution across layers has also been analysed for various rise times of high frequency transients. Finally, the leakage current of the bushing is calculated for evaluating the bushing condition under these transients.
The combustion chamber and nozzle of an end burning, small spherical rocket is designed. A spherical external shape has a number of advantages such as fixed center-of-gravity and minimum aerodynamic precession torques during flight and a better mass distribution for gyro-stabilization as contrasted to a conventional ogive rocket shape. It is shown that the cross-sectional variation of the end burning solid propellant with length is an exponential geometry to provide a constant thrust-weight ratio of the rocket device during the propellant burning period, and that the factors which affect the attainment of the constant relationship of thrust to weight in the design are the initial propellant area, initial weight of the rocket and propellant density. The measurement of the transient thrust in the ground static test using black powder propellant supports the predicted results. A wind tunnel having a $30{\times}30{\times}75cm$ test section and Mach number 0.11 is constructed, and a simple balance-type device is designed for the measurement of the drag of a spinning sphere. The experimental results indicate that the. spinning has no effect on the magnitude of the drag up to the Reynolds number $3{\times}10^5$. Numerical computation of the flight trajectories for various launching angles is presented, and the gyro-stabilization of spinning sphere is discussed.
During the 4 year period from 1982 through 1985, twelve patients have undergone operations for discrete subaortic stenosis with good short-term clinical result at Department of Thoracic and cardiovascular Surgery, S.N.U.H. According to the cineangiographic and operative findings, nine of the 12 patients were classified as Deutsch type I, the other 3 as type II, and eleven of the 12 had one or more associated anomalies of the cardiovascular system such as PDA[5], VSD[5], left SVC[2], MS[1], COA[1], supramitral membrane[1], DORY[1], right aortic arch[1], DCRV[1], and TOF[1] [one with Shone`s complex], and three of them had secondary cardiac disorders such as aortic regurgitation[3],mitral regurgitation[2], and tunnel shaped dynamic obstruction of left ventricular outflow tract[2]. We have performed membrane resection via oblique aortotomy with retraction of the aortic cusps in 7 cases and via VSD from right cardiac chamber in 5 cases with large VSD and have also performed the operations on the correctable associated anomalies. There was only one operative death in patient with associated TOF due to neurologic complication and no other postoperative difficulties except in one patient with transient heart block resolved spontaneously on postoperative 3rd day. To our knowledge, this article is the first report of operation for discrete subaortic stenosis in Korean literature.
Hand washing is an important component of hygiene program for food handlers. Hands can be a source of direct or indirect contamination of foods with pathogenic microorganisms. In this study, the effectiveness of hand washing methods and the use of 70% alcohol solution against transient skin bacteria was tested in an university foodservice facility. 70% alcohol solution is sprayed for 5 seconds automatically when hands are placed in the dispenser. Samples were taken using swab technique in meat cutting area, vegetable trimming area, and vegetable cutting area: before and after washing hands according to planned methods, and after being sprayed with 70% alcohol solution after washing hands. The bacteriological analysis of total plate counts, coliform, fecal coliform of food handlers' hands was done. Statistical data analysis was completed with Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis model using the SPSS program. The levels of initial contamination of workers' hand were significantly different by the work areas($x^2$=9.156, p<0.01). Workers in the vegetable trimming area had more heavily soiled hands than in the other work areas. Mean of TPC counts and coliform was 8.97×$10^5$ CFU/12.4$cm^2$, 2.93×$10^2$ MPN/12.4$cm^2$ respectively, but fecal coliform was not detected. Transient bacteria were removed from hands after washing and using 70% alcohol solution but were not removed completely. Mean reduction percentage in TPC varied among work areas and ranged from 93.19% to 94.99%, and in coliforms from 97.31% to 100%. A significant difference in TPC was found between before and after hand disinfection (Z=-2.714, p<.01) and between standardized hand washing procedures and un-standardized hand washing procedures(z=-2.301, p<.01). Subjects using the hand sanitizer showed a great elimination of TPC(99.45% reduction), but this effect was valid only after following proper washing procedures. Based on the results, the most effective hand washing method was recommended as the combination of the standardized hand washing procedure with warm-water and use of the 70% alcohol solution. The results can be used to develop hand hygiene programs and training strategies for enhancing hand hygiene practices for food handlers in foodservice operations.
The electric power network paralleled with wind turbine generator may have the negative impacts on the protection, operation, and management caused by the operation of wind turbine generator. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the operating characteristic of wind turbine generator. This paper describes model of a squirrel-cage type wind turbine induction generator and the soft cut-in connection method for reducing the transient state on power network, and simulates various cases of wind turbine operations. The radial distribution network of IEEE 13-bus are modeled and tested by PSCAD/EMTDC.
Advanced control is getting increasingly demanded in water and wastewater treatment systems. Various case studies have shown significant savings in operating costs, including energy costs, and remarkably short payback times. It has been demonstrated that instrumentation, control and automation (ICA) may increase the capacity of biological nutrient removing wastewater treatment plants by 10-30% today. With further understanding and exploitation of the mechanisms involved in biological nutrient removal the improvements due to ICA may reach another 20-50% of the total system investments within the next 10-20 years. Disturbances are the reason for control of any system. In a wastewater treatment system they are mostly related to the load variations, but many disturbances are created also within the plant. In water supply systems some of the major disturbances are related the customer demand as well as to leakages or bursts in the pipelines or the distribution networks. Hardly any system operates in steady state but is more or less in a transient state all the time. Water and energy are closely related. The role of energy in water and wastewater operations is discussed. With increasing energy costs and the threatening climate changes this issue will grow in importance.
For the measurement of time-varying electric fields and related quantities, a field sensor should be sensitive to the field to be measured, and also designed having an accurate transfer function. In this paper, a theoretical model which adequately describes the operation principle and design of the sensor is presented. A calibration and/or correction technique of the sensor is also studied which enables a precise determination of the response of the sensor to an electric field. As a result, the developed electric field sensor and measuring system are known to be accurate within a bandwidth from a few Hz to 200 MHz. It is found that the sensor can be used directly in the measurement of very fast transient voltages and time-varying electric fields occurring during disconnector operations in a gas-insulated substation. It may be useful also for the study on the electromagnetic environmental parameters.
The analysis of a mechanical system, body traveling along the elastic structure, has been a topic of interest. The establishment of analytical method for the development and control of this system is required in the fields of many machine operations such as modern weapons and high-speed feed drive system for a machine tool. The dynamic equations are derived on the torsion of a cantilever hollow shaft induced by the spin-up of a moving mass and the displacement of the mass. Influences of design parameters such as the inertia ratio, the mass moving speed and the friction coefficient are discussed on the transient response of the system.
