This paper presents a novel power decoupling control scheme with the bidirectional buck-boost converter for primary-side regulation photovoltaic (PV) micro-inverter. With the proposed power decoupling control scheme, small-capacitance film capacitors are used to overcome the life-span and reliability limitations of the large-capacitance electrolytic capacitors. Then, an improved flyback PV inverter is employed in continuous conduction mode with primary-side regulation for the PV power conditioning. The proposed power-decoupling controller shares the reference for primary side current regulation of the flyback PV inverter. The decoupling controller shapes the input current of the bidirectional buck-boost converter. The shared reference eliminates the phase-delay between the input current to the bidirectional buck-boost converter and the double frequency current at the PV primary current. The elimination of the phase-delay in dynamic response enhances the ripple rejection capability of the power decoupling buck-boost converter even with small film capacitor. With proposed power decoupling control scheme, the additional advantage of the primary-side regulation of flyback PV inverter is that there is no need to have an extra current sensor for obtaining the ripplecurrent reference of the decoupling current-controller of the power-decoupling buck-boost converter. Therefore, the proposed power decoupling control scheme is cost-effective as well as the size benefit. A new transient analysis is carried out which includes the source voltage dynamics instead of considering the source voltage as a pure voltage source. For verification of the proposed control scheme, simulation and experimental results are presented.
In view of the analysis of the phenomena and the prediction of the performance, mathematical modelling and simulation of a high temperature pilot reactor for water gas shift reaction (WGSR) has been carried out. Multiscale simulation incorporated computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique, which has the capability to deal with the reactor shape, fluid and energy transport with extensive degree of accuracy, and process modeling technique, which, in turn is responsible for reaction kinetics and mass transport. This research employed multiscale simulation and the results were compared with those from process simulation. From multiscale simulation, the maximum conversion of was predicted approximately 0.85 and the maximum temperature at the reactor was calculated 720 K, resulting from the heat of reaction. Dynamic simulation was also performed for the time transient profile of temperature, conversion, etc. Considering the results, it is concluded that multiscale simulation is a safe and accurate technique to predict reactor behaviors, and consequently will be available for the design of commercial size chemical reactors as well as other commercial unit operations.
The on-line measurement of high-power IGBT collector current is important for the hierarchical control and short-circuit and overcurrent protection of its driver and the sensorless control of the converter. The conventional on-line measurement methods for IGBT collector current are not suitable for engineering measurement due to their large-size, high-cost, low-efficiency sensors, current transformers or dividers, etc. Based on the gate driver, this paper has proposed a current measuring circuit for IGBT collector current. The circuit is used to conduct non-intervention on-line measurement of IGBT collector current by detecting the voltage drop of the IGBT power emitter and the auxiliary emitter terminals. A theoretical analysis verifies the feasibility of this circuit. The circuit adopts an operational amplifier for impedance isolation to prevent the measuring circuit from affecting the dynamic performance of the IGBT. Due to using the scheme for integration first and amplification afterwards, the difficult problem of achieving high accuracy in the transient-state and on-state measurement of the voltage between the terminals of IGBT power emitter and the auxiliary emitter (uEe) has been solved. This is impossible for a conventional detector. On this basis, the adoption of a two-stage operational amplifier can better meet the requirements of high bandwidth measurement under the conditions of a small signal with a large gain. Finally, various experiments have been carried out under the conditions of several typical loads (resistance-inductance load, resistance load and inductance load), different IGBT junction temperatures, soft short-circuits and hard short-circuits for the on-line measurement of IGBT collector current. This is aided by the capacitor voltage which is the integration result of the voltage uEe. The results show that the proposed method of measuring IGBT collector current is feasible and effective.
The heating performance of a solar thermal seasonal storage system applied to a 1,320 m2 glass greenhouse was analyzed numerically, and the economic feasibility depending upon the number of boreholes was evaluated. For this study, the gardening 16th and 19th zucchini greenhouse of Jeollanam-do agricultural research & extension services was selected. And the heating load of the glass greenhouse selected was 1,147 GJ. BTES(Borehole Thermal Energy Storage) was considered as a seasonal storage, which is relatively economical. The number of boreholes was selected from 25 to 150. The TRNSYS was used to predict and analyze the dynamic performance of the solar thermal system. Numerical simulation was performed by modelling the solar thermal seasonal storage system consisting of flat plate solar collector, BTES system, short-term storage tank, boiler, heat exchanger, pump and controller. As a result of the analysis, when the number of boreholes was from 25 to 50, the thermal efficiency of BTES system and the solar fraction was the highest. When the number of boreholes was from 25 to 50, it was analyzed that the payback period was from 5.2 years to 6.2 years. Therefore it was judged to be the number of boreholes of the proposed system was from 25 to 50, which is the most efficient and economical.

An analysis method is proposed for the transient linear or nonlinear analysis of dynamic interactions between a flexible dam body and reservoir impounding compressible water under earthquake loadings. The coupled dam-reservoir system consists of three substructures: (1) a dam body with linear or nonlinear behavior; (2) a semi-infinite fluid region with constant depth; and (3) an irregular fluid region between the dam body and far field. The dam body is modeled with linear and/or nonlinear finite elements. The far field is formulated as a displacement-based transmitting boundary in the frequency domain that can radiate energy into infinity. Then the transmitting boundary is transformed for the direct coupling in the time domain. The near field region is modeled as a compressible fluid contained between two substructures. The developed method is verified and applied to various earthquake response analyses of dam-reservoir systems. Also, the method is applied to a nonlinear analysis of a concrete gravity dam. The results show the location and severity of damage demonstrating the applicability to the seismic evaluation of existing and new dams.

We present a design sensitivity analysis(DSA) method for multiscale problems based on bridging scale decomposition. In this paper, we utilize a bridging scale method for the coupled system analysis. Since the analysis of full MD systems requires huge amount of computational costs, a coupled system of MD-level and continuum-level simulation is usually preferred. The information exchange between the MD and continuum levels is taken place at the MD-continuum boundary. In the bridging scale method, a generalized Langevin equation(GLE) is introduced for the reduced MD system and the GLE force using a time history kernel is applied at the boundary atoms in the MD system. Therefore, we can separately analyze the MD and continuum level simulations, which can accelerate the computing process. Once the simulation of coupled problems is successful, the need for the DSA is naturally arising for the optimization of macro-scale design, where the macro scale performance of the system is maximized considering the micro scale effects. The finite difference sensitivity is impractical for the gradient based optimization of large scale problems due to the restriction of computing costs but the analytical sensitivity for the coupled system is always accurate. In this study, we derive the analytical design sensitivity to verify the accuracy and applicability to the design optimization of the coupled system.

The proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell system is critically dependent on the humidity, which should be properly maintained over the entire operating range. A membrane humidifier is used for the water management in the PEMFC because of the membrane humidifier's reliable performance and zero parasitic power loss. In the PEMFC system, the membrane humidifier is required to provide appropriate humidity for the design point of the fuel cell. Although the performance of the fuel cell depends on the performance of the humidifier, few studies have provided a systematic analysis of the humidifier. We carry out an experimental analysis of the membrane humidifier using a vapor condensation bottle. The dry air pressure, water flow temperature, and air flow rate were chosen as the operating parameters. The results show that the time constant for the dynamic response of the membrane humidifier is relatively short, but additional analysis should be carried out.

In a reciprocating compressor, the piston and connecting rod are important parts. Excess mechanical stress on these parts may cause damage, and broken parts are expensive and difficult to replace. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the mechanical stress affecting durability and longevity. The main purpose of this study was to identify locations of maximum stress on pistons and connecting rods. Based on dynamic calculation of the working process of a specific air compressor, an analysis of piston and connecting rod performance has been completed. A three-dimensional model for the air compressor's pistons and connecting rods was built separately, and FEM analysis of these components was carried out using a numerical method. The pistons were loaded by pressure which was changed according to crankshaft angle without thermal boundary conditions. The simulation results were used to predict and estimate stress concentration as well as the value of this stress on pistons and connecting rods. The maximum equivalent stress calculated are over 190 MPa on pistons and 123 MPa on connecting rods at crank angle $135^{\circ}$ and $225^{\circ}$ but these are under tensile yield strength. Besides, the calculated safety factors of connecting rods and pistons is higher than 1. Moreover, the results obtained can be used to provide manufacturers with references to optimize the design of pistons and connecting rods for reciprocating compressors.

In this paper, the design and nonlinear simulation of a multistable electromagnetic microactuator, which provides four stable equilibrium positions within its operating range, have been discussed. Quadstable actuator motion has been made possible by using both X- and Y-directional bistable structures with snapping curved beams. Two pairs of the curved beams are attached to an inner frame in both X- and Y-directions to realize independent bistable behavior in each direction. For the actuation of the actuator at the micrometer scale, an electromagnetic actuation method in which Lorentz force is taken into consideration was used. By using this method, micrometer-stroke quadstability in a plane parallel to a substrate was possible. The feasibility of designing an actuator that can realize quadstable motion by using the electromagnetic actuation method has been thoroughly clarified by performing nonlinear static and dynamic analyses and electrothermal coupled-field analysis of the multistable microactuator.
From the beginning of the construction stage, the fire protection regulation for the nuclear power plants conforms to the design requirements for the acquisition of the license permit. This regulation is based on the plant status of the normal operation, but it is not enough to be used as an application standard for fire protection at the transient mode of the plant and the outage time for refueling as well as for the plant decommissioning. While the advanced fire protection requirement that has been developed in America recently suggests the performance-based requirement and management rule applicable to the overall life time of the plant, it simply represents the conceptual application. It means that it can not be treated as appropriate standards because it does not deal with the qualitative and quantitative approach in specific ways. By the way, with the use of the performance-based fire risk analysis, the dynamic behavior of the heat and smoke at the fire compartment of the nuclear power plants can be analyzed and the thermal effect to the safety-related equipment and cables can be evaluated as well. At this paper, it suggests the ways to change the applicable fire protection regulations and the required evaluation items for the fire risk resulted from the plant configuration change with an intent to introduce the state-of-the-art quantitative fire risk analysis technology at the domestic nuclear power plants.
