  • In this paper, we consider the handling f a flexible object using dual-arm manipulators. We choose both the side arms as rigid, and the objects to be manipulated as flexible. Our purpose is to realize position control for the flexible object while suppressing its vibration. In particular, the problem taken up here is the stability of the control system while manipulating the object. We propose that the traditional approach to investigate the robot system be expanded to include the object's characteristics (thus transferring the stability of the robot system into the full assembly system). We define a handling characteristic while manipulating the object. Finally, the relationship between the handling characteristic and the positional constraint condition in the hold position of the arms is studied while considering the stability of the control system.

  • Tire is in charge of a lot of function, which is supporting vehicle load, transferring traction and. brake, absorbing impact by road etc. As the silence of vehicle increase more important, the importance of tire noise is more raised. In recent, the study on reduction of tire noise is generally processed. Tire noise is divided in structure home noise and all borne noise. Tire tread properties have a lot of multiplicity. Rubber properties are caused by changing or tread hardness. That change Elastic Modulus and Loss Modulus, which is related by tire noise. In the study, we found that road noise is affected by tread hardness

  • The usage of constant velocity (CV) joint is effective for motorboats on gliding regime of the motion. During transition on the gliding when angle of the CV differs from null on driving and driven composite shafts there are moments of the second order. Excitation of oscillations of the second order moments occurs when driving shafts transmits a variable torque. which generates through CV joint a lateral moment acting on the bearing. As a result of oscillations from a resonating harmonic of a shafting the harmonic with the greater or periodically varying amplitude for power condition trough transferring to nominal power 144kW. Beating conditions coincide with third mode having frequency 45.486 Hz. In that case there is high increasing of the equivalent stresses. The forming of the stiffness of the composite material is concerned to use most orientation of the layer angle in the range of $\pm$60 degrees relatively of shaft axis. Application of that angles for layer orientation gives possibility to avoid high disturbance of the shafting for motorboat transition regime.

  • An automated scanning laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV) has been designed, and built to measure in-plane vibration fields over structures. Use of optical fibers allows the compact design of a laser probe head which can be scanned over the vibrating structures. An algorithm for automated self-alignment of the laser probe is developed. The system is completely automated for scanning over the structures, focusing two laser beams at each data point until the detected vibration signal is stable, and for recording and transferring the data to a system computer. The automated system allows one to get extensive data of the vibration field over the structures. The system is tested by scanning a piezoelectric cylindrical shell and a plate excited by a continuous signal and by a pulse signal, respectively. Results show that the automated scanning LDV system can be a useful tool to measure the in-plane vibration field and to detect the elastic waves propagating on the vibrating structures.

  • This study was conducted to develop an agaricus bisporus washing machine which uses compressed air to remove foreign materials attached on the surface of agaricus bisporus. A prototype of the washing machine was constructed, and performance of removing foreign materials was tested. Research results are as follows: 1. Several transferring methods including PE roller rotation, brush roller rotation, PE screw rotation, vibration plate, and belt conveyor were evaluated. Roller, screw, and vibration methods caused damages on the surface of the products, but belt conveyor method caused the least damages. 2. For air jet, a stationary nozzle type and a rotational type were evaluated. The best air jet nozzle was the jet-type nozzle, and the rotational type was more effective than stationary type nozzle. 3. With the conveyer belt, box type moving method and the rotational air jet nozzle, the washing machine showed the best performance when higher than 5.4${\times}$105 Pa of air jet pressure and lower than 0.047 m/s of moving speed was used. Working performance of the system was 650 kg/h, and the damaging rate was 1.2 %.

  • A 300Wh class flywheel energy storage system using high Tc superconductor bearings(HTC SFES) is being developed by KIMM and KEPRI. HTC SFES consists of a flywheel rotor, superconductor bearings, a motor/generator and its controller, touch-down bearings, vacuum chamber, etc. Stiffness and damping values of superconductor bearings were experimentally estimated to be 67,700N/m and 29Ns/m respectively. The present HTC SFES was designed to have maximum operating speed of 33000 rpm, which is far above 2 rigid body mode critical speeds of 645rpm and 1,275rpm. Leaf-spring type touch-down bearing were utilized to have the system pass safely through the system critical speeds. It has been experimentally verified that the system can run stably up to 28,000 rpm so that HTC SFES is now expected to reach up to its maximum design speed of 33,000rpm without any difficulties. The Halbach array motor & generator has also been proven its effectiveness on transferring electrical energy to a rotaing composite flywheel in kinetic form.

  • Impact wrench has a sophisticated structure to implement various pre-designed mechanisms with specific functions. In the structure of impact wrench, the gear box has an important role to generate impacting force of anvil from actuating torque. Since, it requires to design systematically the gear box for accurate mechanism of operation and transferring motions. In this paper, a methodology of dynamic analysis, which is useful to design mechanical system, is proposed and applied to impact wrench, sequentially. At first, the way to perform dynamic analysis for design, which is progressed from component to assembled system, is introduced. Secondly, the proposed methodology is applied to designing impact wrench. Eventually, the results of parameter study with proposed methodology are applied to actual design for design optimization. And optimized-design is evaluated in the view of accurate operation and structural stability.

  • In this study, we suggested a slim-type actuator that can be controlled in radial direction for compensating coma aberration in high-capacity optical storage devices. To deal successfully with narrow space in slim-type optical pick-up for notebook pc device, additional yokes for tilting motion are integrated into main yoke of the actuator. And the location of tilting coils is determined for mass-b3lancing effect to achieve optimal configuration for high driving sensitivity. We also suggested new concept of lens holder to guarantee excellent stability of control system by enhancing the gain margin at secondary resonant frequency. The concept was realized by forming damping sections in the lens holder, which prevent vibrational energy from transferring to lens. An exclusive measurement system was newly developed for fast and precise measurement of dynamic characteristics of actuators and utilized for the practical use. We hope to make good use of this system also in time to come.

  • Although rock excavation is necessary for the effective utilization of urban space, most conventional rock excavation methods, including the blasting method, cause high noise and vibration. Meanwhile, if a high pressure waterjet system is applied to excavate underground spaces in urban areas, the public grievance can be reduced by low noise and vibration. In this study, an abrasive waterjet system is designed and developed to study the influence of various performance parameters such as jet pressure, nozzle traverse speed, stand-off distance, or abrasive feed rate on waterjet excavation performance in laboratory. Using the developed waterjet system, rock drilling characteristics are identified by measuring drilling depths as a function of the jet exposure time. The drilling depth linearly increases with increasing the jet exposure time(under 60sec). Rock cutting characteristics are also obtained with various jet pressures(1600~3200kg/$cm^2$) and nozzle traverse speeds(1.9~14.1mm/s): The cutting depth is nonlinearly related to the jet pressure and traverse speed. Indeed, the cutting depth increases with an increase in the jet pressure and a decrease in the nozzle traverse speed. This trend can be explained by energy transferring/loss mechanism.

  • This paper presents optimization of a pneumatic control system whose design parameters have been optimized so that the desired dynamic characteristics of cylinder position was obtained. The pneumatic system is used as transferring and stacking equipment for solid freeform fabrication system which has been widely used in design verification applications. The pneumatic system mainly consists of pneumatic control valves and cylinders. The system was modeled by using several principles for pneumatic components. The system was optimized to obtain dynamic performance with enough damping to reduce cylinder vibration. A fuzzy controller has been applied to fulfill the dynamic performance requirements of the pneumatic system. The simulation results show that the fuzzy controller is more effective than a PD controller.
