Ni 계 초내열합금의 PTA 오버레이 층 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of the Ni base Super Alloy Overlay Layer by Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) Method)

  • The Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) overlaying method is lately introduced as one of the most useful surface modification method of the engine component. In this paper, the characteristics of the Co-base and Ni-base super alloy overlay layers by PTA method were investigated through the metallurgical, abrasive and cavitation erosion test. Experimental results showed that the abrasive wear resistance of the Co-base Stellite 6 overlayer was the most superior and followed in order of Nimonic 80A, Inconel 625 and Inconel 718. However, the cavitation erosion characteristic of the Stellite 6 overlayer was the most inferior and it was better in order of Inconel 625, Inconel 718 and Nimonic 80A.

  • The surface of AC8A Ah alloy was modified by adding the Cu powder using a Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) welding process. Under the optimum fabricating conditions, the modified surface of AC8A Ah alloy was observed to possess the sound microstructure with a minimum porosity. Hardness and wear resistance properties of the as-fabricated alloy were compared with those of the 76 heat-treated one. In case of the as-fabricated alloy, the hardness of the modified layer was twice that of the matrix region. Although significant increase in the hardness of the matrix region was observed after T6 heat treatment, the hardness of the modified layer was not observed to change. The wear resistance of the modified layer was significantly increased compared to that of the matrix region. The microstructure of a weld zone and the matrix region were investigated using the optical microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The primary and eutectic silicon in the weld zone were finer and more curved than in the matrix region, while some precipitates has had been found therein. According to the TEM observation, the predominant precipitate present in the weld zone was the $\theta$'phase, which is precipitated during cooling by rapid solidification in PTA welding process. Improvement of hardness and wear properties in the weld zone in the as-fabricated condition can be explained based on the presence of $\theta$’precipitates and fine primary and eutectic silicon distribution.

  • This paper discusses the characteristics about the ignition of D.C. main discharge is a plasma jet generator, manufactured for trial as non-transferred type, when the electrical energy appropriate to the ignition is supplied to the gap between the electrodes by using advance discharge of attenuating high frequency voltage generated by a high frequency oscillator with mercury spark gap. These characteristics are under the influences of (a) the length of mercury gap in high frequency oscillator and the quantity of hydrogen flow supplied to it, (b) the condenser capacity of the high frequency oscillator circuit, (c) the length of plasma jet torch in D.C. main discharge circuit and the quantity of argon flow supplied to it, (d) the circuit constants of D.C. main discharge circuit. The results for these characteristics, obtained by this research, are considered to be helpful to the designs for the ignition of a plasma jet as well as the welding arc stabilizer by high frequency discharge and the high frequency arc welder.

고상 廢棄物處理를 위한 플라즈마 토치에 관한 硏究 (The Study of Plasma Torch for Solid Waste Treatment)

  • 본 연구에서는 고상폐기물(소각재) 처리를 위해 중간 전극 (IEI, Inter-Electrode Insert)이 있는 button 형태의 고형 체형 고출력 토치를 개발하였고 폐기물처리 플라즈마설비에 적용하여 운전특성을 얻었다. 본 연구의 토치 실험 결과 비이송형 모드에서는 가스량의 증가에 따라 전압이 증가하였고, 이송형 모드에서는 가스량 변화에는 영향이 없었으나 토치와 바닥면과의 거리, 슬래그의 성분 그리고 용융 슬래그의 체적에 따라 전압의 변화가 발생하였다. 특히 아크전압이 슬래그내의 total Fe 함량이 10% 내외에서 안정적으로 유지되었으며, 전기전도도 계산결과 0.05~0.25${\Omega}^{-1}cm^{-1}$ 범위로 나타났다. 본 연구의 토치 효율은 75~85%로 나타났으며, 마모율은 2${\times}10^{-6}~6{\times}10^{-6}$ kg/s의 범위로 나타났다.

  • 내경 1.5 mm, 외경 4.8 mm를 갖는 엔탈피 탐침을 설계 제작하고, 17 kW급 비이송식 직류 아크히터로부터 나오는 고엔탈피 Ar 아크 플라즈마 유동의 중심축을 따라 삽입하면서 탐침 첨두가 파괴될 때까지 온도와 속도를 측정하였다. 이 실험으로부터, 설계된 엔탈피 탐침은 대기압 조건에서 최대 12,000 K 의 온도와 600 m/s 의 속도를 갖는 고엔탈피아크 플라즈마 유동장에 대해 탐침 첨두의 파괴 없이 동작할 수 있음을 관찰하였다. 탐침첨두에서 형성되는 비압축성 열경계층 및 열속 방정식으로부터 이 경우의 아크 플라즈마 유동은 약 ${\sim}5{\times}10^7\;W/m^2$의 열속 부하를 전달한 것으로 추측되었다. 이로부터, 설계된 엔탈피 탐침은 $0{\sim}5{\times}10^7\;W/m^2$의 열속 범위 내에서 다양한 형태의 아크히터로부터 발생되는 넓은 범위의 플라즈마 온도, 속도 및 농도를 동시에 측정할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

PTA법에 의한 스텔라이트 12 합금 육성층의 특성에 미치는 전류의 영향 (The Effect of Current on Characteristics of Stellite 12 Alloy Overlayer by PTA Process)

  • Stellite 12 alloy-powders were overlaid on 410 stainless steel valve seat using plasma transferred arc(PTA) process. Variation of the microstructure, hardness, wear and corrosion of overlaid deposit with current change was investigated. The deposit showed hypoeutectic microstructure, which was consisted of primary cobalt dendrite and networked $M_7C_3$ type eutectic carbides. As current increased, the amount of eutectic carbide decreased and its dendritic secondary arm spacing increased. Hardness of the deposit was decreased with increase of current. Stress relief heat treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ for two hours resulted in slight increase of hardness in the deposit and showed uniform hardness distribution in base metal without any hardened layer in HAZ. Specific wear decreased with increase of sliding distance. The deposit of high hardness with a lot of eutectic carbide showed relatively low specific wear. Initial corrosion current density of the deposit in 0.1N sulfuric acid was lower than those of 410 stainless steel, and showed a little variation with PTA current.

Effect of dilution on micro hardness of Ni-Cr-B-Si alloy hardfaced on austenitic stainless steel plate for sodium-cooled fast reactor applications

  • Many components in the assembly section of Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor are made of good corrosionresistant 316 LN Stainless Steel material. To avoid self-welding of the components with the coolant sodium at elevated temperature, hardfacing is inevitable. Ni-based colmonoy-5 is used for hardfacing due to its lower dose rate by Plasma Transferred Arc process due to its low dilution. Since Ni-Cr-B-Si alloy becomes very fluidic while depositing, the major height of the weld overlay rests inside the groove. Hardfacing is also done over the plain surface where grooving is not possible. Therefore, grooved and ungrooved hardfaced specimens were prepared at different travel speeds. Fe content at every 100 ㎛ of the weld overlay was studied by Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy and also the micro hardness was determined at those locations. A correlation between iron dilution from the base metal and the micro hardness was established. Therefore, if the Fe content of the weld overlay is known, the hardness at that location can be obtained using the correlation and vice-versa. A new correlation between micro hardness and dilution coefficient is obtained at different locations. A comparative study between those specimens is carried out to recommend the optimum travel speed for lower dilution.

니켈기 초내열합금의 고온연성거동에 관한 연구 (A Study on Hot Ductility Behavior of Ni-based Superalloys)

  • Plasma transferred arc welding (PTAW) has been taken into consideration for repairing Ni-based superalloy components used gas turbine blades. Various cracks has been generally reported to be found in the base metal heat affected zone(HAZ) along grain boundary. Thus, hot cracking susceptibility of Ni-based superalloys was evaluated according to heat treatments. Hot ductility test was conducted on specimens with solution treated at 112$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours and aging treated at 845$^{\circ}C$ for 24hours after solution treatment. The results of the hot ductility test appeared that solution treated specimens were the highest ductility recovery rate among three conditions. The loss of ductility at high temperature in Ni-based superalloy was mainly controlled by the degree of pain boundary wetting due to constitutional liquation of MC carbide precipitates. Meanwhile, the highest ductility recovery rate in solution-treated alloys seems to be lack of M23C6, which can be dissolved during heating and then result in the local enrichment of Cr in the vicinity of the grain boundary.

Variation of microstructure and hardness of overlaid deposit with aging time at $750^{\circ}C$ was investigated. The deposit showed hypoeutectic microstructure, which was consisting of primary cobalt dendrite and networked $M_{7}C_{3}$type eutectic carbides. After aging new M_{23}C_{6}$ carbide was formed by the partial decomposition of $M_7C_3$ type eutectic carbides and finely dispersed $M_{23}C_6$ type carbides were also precipitated in the matrix. Hardness of the deposit was increased with increase of aging time at $750^{\circ}C$ and showed maximum value at 35hours. After showing maximum value, it was fallen down again at 70hours because of overaging. The increase of hardness in aging is ascribed to the formation of new stable $M_{23}C_6$ type carbide by the partial decomposition of $M_7C_3$ type eutectic carbides and also precipitation of finely dispersed $M_{23}C_6$ carbides in matrix.
