  • To establish an effective in vivo Hanwoo embryo production system, several factors including types of FSH analogue, FSH treatment day, grade of Corpus Luteum were examined. Among FSH analogues. Super-OV was shown to have lower effect on transferable embryo production (P<0.01). Regarding the day of FSH treatment, there were significant difference in estrus status of donors(P<0.1), fertilization rate, and transferable and freezable embryo production(P<0.05). Finally, embryo production was significantly(P<0.01) higher in grade A (8.06 ∼9.49) Corpus Luteum which showed more than 6 on the left or right ovary than in grade B, C and D(2.93∼6.28).

  • The primary purpose of ITQ (individually transferable quota) is to reduce the overcapitalization problem in the open-access fishery. It has been argued that the least cost-efficient vessels under ITQ may exit first from the fishing by selling their quotas, thereby also reducing the excess capital. The purpose of this paper is to provide a case when ITQ may prompt the exit of less cost-inefficient vessels in the presence of irreversible exit cost which is proportional to the cost-inefficiency. Real option model is adopted in order to analyze the source of hysteresis associated with fishery exit decision. By linking the interaction between vessels' adjustment costs, cost-efficiency of harvest and uncertainty of fishery return, we show that cost-inefficient vessels will not exit always first from the fishery in contrast to the conventional wisdom. Relevant policy implications is discussed.

  • This paper provides a theoretical approach to the New Zealand's Catch-Balancing Regime (CBR) with a reporting requirement under the Individual Transferable Quota (ITQ) system. The enforcement strategy depicted draws on recent literature regarding practical applications of the Revelation Principle. New Zealand's use of CBR-specific instruments such as deemed values, remains to be improved. However, some of its features can constitute a valuable example for regulators seeking to improve their methods of dealing with issues as bycatch or overfishing in order to maintain Total Allowable Catch (TAC) levels under emerging ITQ systems. The enforcement strategy analyzed has the potential to provide a more sustainable and efficient management of the fish stock, reduce discarding and stabilize monitoring costs, while improving the level of reporting compliance.

  • The experiment was conducted under the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh from June, 2001 to December, 2005 in two different locations (Central Cattle Breeding and Dairy Farm and Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute in Savar, Dhaka) to observe ovarian response to different doses of FSH in three different genotypes of cattle- indigenous Local, Pabna cattle and Friesian${\times}$Local cross. Five different dose levels used were 200, 240, 280, 320 and 360 mg. Ovarian response as corpus luteum (CL), recovered embryo (RE) and of transferable embryos (TE) count in Local were significant for 320, 280 and 280 mg respectively. In Pabna cattle CL, RE and TE count were found significant for 360, 320 and 320 mg respectively. In Friesian${\times}$Local cross CL, RE and TE count were found significant for 360, 320 and 320 mg respectively. The excellent quality embryos showed significantly the highest yield ($1.80{\pm}0.20$) in the 240 and 280 mg FSH levels in Local genotype. In Pabna cattle, the highest yield ($2.00{\pm}0.32$) was found at FSH level 320 mg. In Friesian${\times}$Local, the highest yield ($2.20{\pm}0.20$) was found at FSH level 280 mg.

  • First, The flow into and out of unemployment has been increasing considerably too since the late 1997. Moreover, about half of job changes involve career changes associated with industrial and occupational changes which workers work for. Workers who switch industries and occupations significantly suffer greater wage losses than observed similar workers who find new jobs in their pre-turnover industry or occupation. These findings imply that labor mobility is more likely to cause losses in accumulated skill of workers. Second, this study compared the wage return to past training when a worker remains with an employer with the wage return to past training when a worker moves to a new employer. Surprisingly, training provided by previous employers has significantly positive wage effect. These findings that the skill acquired by employer- provided training is transferable across some firms. Third, this study finds that the likelihood of sectoral mobility decreases with training received in the current industry. It gives an evidence of the industry- specific training. Based on these findings, this paper suggest the way of dividing the costs of benefits of training among employers within their sector to prevent under-investment in training.

  • In this era of changing system, we may learn lesson from newly developed Uniform Electronic Transation Act(UETA) in 1999. Korea has its counterpart as the Basic Electronic Transaction Act and Electronic Signature Act made by 1999. While UETA stresses on transaction law between individuals, that of Korean stresses on the role of government in electronic transaction. Both laws have the common definitions as electronic record, electronic signature, however, UETA has its own definitions such as automated transaction, computer program, electronic agent, information, information processing system, and security procedure. Especially, transferable record in section 16 is one of the most unique concept which Korean law does not provide. Korean government is planning to introduce electronic note in the near future, which will make unprecedented reform in Korean financial industry. Since Korean law does not have such a concept as electronic note, revision of the law is expected soon. Korean law has its specialty which puts stress on cyber mall, authentication agency, and consumer protection. In U.S., the interpretation of law by court is important when they have disputes according to common law traditon. Studies on cases on disputes in U.S. is needed most for Korean application.

  • I. The Factors Influencing In Vivo Embryo Production by Condition of Superovulation Treatment These studies were carried out to establish an effective and practical system for comrnercialization of embryo production techniques by analyzing several factors influencing in vivo embryo production on superovulation treatment in Korean native cattle. In vivo embryos were flushed 226 times from 128 donors. The results obtained from the studies on the factors influencing in vivo embryo production by superovulation treatment were as follows : FSH-P had a significiant advantage(83.0%) over SUPER-OV in the percentage of fertilized embryos(P<0.01). No difference was found loetween FSH-P and SUPER-OV in the percentage of transferable and freezable embryos.2. The response of superovulation by SUPER-OV was greater than that of FSH-P The donors having 8~9 and more than 10 of corpora lutea(CL) derived by FSH-P were 40.0%(most frequent) and 33%, respectively. The donors having more than 12 and 10 CL derived by SUPER -OV were 33.3% (most frequent) and 56.6%, respectively.3. Embryo production after treatment of repeated superovulation was remarkablely decreased at 3rd time by FSH-P but did not differ among 1, 2 and 3rd times by SUPER-OV. Embryo production on intervals of repeated superovulation was significantly different for the number and percentage of fertilized, transferable and free-zable' embryos in FSH-P (P<0.01) and rernarkablely decreased in repeated superovulation of 81~120 interval days. The SUPER-OV showed no differences in interval days of repeated superovulation and was found better than FSH-P in the response of repeated superovulation. • This study was carried out to establish an effective and practical system for commercialization of embryo production techniques by analyzing several factors influencing in vivo embryo production on days and seasons of flushing in Korean native cattle. In vivo embryos were flushed 226 times from 128 donors. The results obtained for the factors influencing in vivo embryo production on days and seasons of flushing were as follows :1.The percentages of fertilized, transferable and freezable embryos by seasons were significantly different in both FSR-P and SUPER-OV(P<0.01). The percentages of them were highest in sunrrner with FS H-P and highest in autumn with SUPER -OV.2. The production of transferable and freezable embryos by flushing days was highest in 8 days with FSH-P, and there was no difference between 7 and 8 days for SUP ER-OV. 3. The failure rates of recovery were 17.0% in SUPER-OV and 21.2% in FSH-P, respectively. The donors superovulated but failed recovery were 8.5% in SUPER-OV and 12.9% in FSH-P, respectively. Nonsuperovulated donors was 8.4% and donors giving less than 2 eggs at recovery was 8.4% in both FSH -P and SUPER-OV 4. The donors returned to normal estrus after superovulation were 34.1% after 1 cycle,39.4% after 2 cycles, and 16.7% after 3 cycles by FSH-P, respectively. For SUPER-OV, they were 55.3, 33.0 and 9.6%, respectively. Generally, normal estrus after the treatment of superovulation was earlier and the occurrence of ovarian cyst was also lower in SUP ER-OV than in FSH-P.5.The percentages of blastocyst in embryos flushed at 7~8 days after estrus were 21. 9% and 54.3% in FSH -P and SUPER-OV, respectively. The development of embryos was faster in SUPER-OV than in FSH-P.(Key words : in vivo embryo, flushing days, superovulation, FSH-P, SUPER-OV)

  • A total of 58 strains of Enterobacter species isolated from clinical specimens at Kyungpook National University Hospital in Taegu and Yonsei University Hospital in Seoul were tested for the molecular characterization to investigate the nosocomial infection through the study of R plasmids which might spread among Gram negative organisms regardless of their originated strains. All strains resistant to ampicillin, cefoxitin and cephalothin but susceptible to moxalactam were subjected to the further test for the determination of in detail MIC value against 23 drugs of common use including beta-lactam antibiotics and R plasmid profile analysis. The reistance frequency of strains against carbenicillin (53.4%) was similar to those against chloramphenicol, tobramycin, and sulfisomidine. Though the MIC values of resistance criteria against ceftazidime, aztreonam, imipenem, and norfloxacine in NCCLS manual were not available but MIC ranges of strains tested were very low. There were differences in patterns and frequencies of resistance between the strains isolated in Seoul and Taegu isolates. Seoul isolates showed a tendency of higher multiplicity of resistance than those of Taegu isolates. The resistances against cefoxitin, cephalothin, cefoperazone, cefotaxime, nalidixic acid, and rifampin were not conferred to the conjugally transferable R plasmid. The approximate molecular size of conjugally transferable R plasmids ranged 30 to 151 megadalton, and one or 2 to 3 R plasmids were identified in each transconjugants.

  • A total 64 strains of Escherichia coli including 38 strains of urinary tract infection and 26 strains from other clincal sources were studied for several properties related to the virulence markers of organisms. Urinary isolates(76.3%) showed higher frequency of mannose resistant hemagglutination(MRHA) wi th human erythrocytes(A type, $Rh^+$) than the strains of control group isolated from other sources(34.6%). Seventeen strains(44.4%) of urinary isolates and 2 strains(7.7%) of control group showed hemolysis on blood agar plate. There was no significant difference in MIC's of 23 drugs between both groups of urinary isolates and control group. But they showed high frequency of resistance to ampicillin, carbenicillin, piperacillin, kanamycin, and trimethoprim, but were very susceptible to cefotaxime, moxalactam, ceftizidime, imipenem, and norfloxacine. Fourteen strains(36.8%) of urinary isolates and 10 strains(38.5%) of control group showed conjugally transferable resistance conferred to R plasmids. The urinary isolates carried one or more to 6(mean 3.4) plasmids of approximate molecular weight ranged 3.1 to 94 megadalton(Mdal) and strains of control group carried 2 to 5(mean 3.8) plasm ids of size ranged 3.6 to 130 Mdal. The size of conjugally transferable R plasmid identified with transconjugants ranged 32 to 130 Mdal.
