Finite Element analysis is widely applied to elevated temperature forging processes and shows a lot of information of plastic deformation such as strain, stress, defects, damages and temperature distributions. In highly elevated temperature deformation processes, temperature of material and tool have significant influence on tool life, deformation conditions and productivities. To predict temperature related properties accurately, adequate coefficients of not only contact heat transfer between material and dies but also convection heat transfer due to coolants are required. In most F.E analysis, too higher value of contact heat transfer coefficient is usually applied to get acceptable temperature distribution of tool. For contact heat transfer coefficients between die and workpiece, accurate values were evaluated with different pressure and lubricants conditions. But convection heat transfer coefficients have not been investigated for forging lubricants. In this research, convection heat transfer coefficients for cooling by emulsion lubricants are suggested by experiment and Inverse method. To verify acquired convection and contact heat transfer coefficients, tool temperature was measured for the comparison between measured tool temperature and analysis results. To increase analysis accuracy, repeated analysis scheme was applied till temperature of the tool got to be in the steady-state conditions. Verification of heat transfer coefficients both contact and convection heat transfer coefficients was proven with good accordance between measurement and analysis.
New method for evaluation of heat transfer coefficient is proposed. In general, many researchers have been studied about inverse problem in order to calculate the heat transfer coefficient on three-dimensional heat conduction problem. But they can get the time-dependent heat transfer coefficient only through inverse problem. In order to acquire temperature-dependent heat transfer coefficient, it requires much time for numerous repetitive calculation and inconvenient manual modification. In order to solve these problems, we are using the SQP(Sequential Quadratic Programming) as an optimization algorithm. When the temperature history is given by experiment, the optimization algorithm can evaluate the temperature-dependent heat transfer coefficient with automatic repetitive calculation until difference between calculated temperature history and experimental ones is minimized. Finally, temperature-dependent heat transfer coefficient evaluated by developed program can used on various heat transfer problem.

Plate and shell heat exchanger(P&SHE) is widely applied as evaporators or condensers in the refrigeration and air conditioning systems for their high efficiency and compactness. In order to set up the database for the design of the P&SHE, heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics for single phase flow of water in a plate & shell heat exchanger are experimentally investigated in this study. Single phase heat transfer coefficients were measured for turbulent water flow in a plate and shell heat exchangers by Wilson plot method. The shell side heat transfer resistance was varied and the overall heat transfer coefficients were measured. The single-phase heat transfer coefficients in a plate side were obtained by Wilson plot method. Single-phase heat transfer correlations based on projected heat transfer area and friction factor correlations have been proposed for single phase flow in a plate and shell heat exchanger.

In nucleate boiling, bubbles are created by the expansion of entrapped gas or vapor at small cavities in the surface of heat transfer. Namely, surface roughness is the important factor of heat transfer. This paper deals with the characteristics of boiling curve according to surface roughness. Freon-113 is used as the experimental fluid. The results are as follows; 1. In the case of the same as "q=C$\Delta$T$^{n}$ ", the lower numberical index "n", the larger heat transfer coefficient and the lower wall superheat "$\Delta$T" is obtained for the rougher surface. 2. In the working of every kind of heat transfer sruface with boiling, improvement of capabilities of heat transfer can be devised by adding suitable roughness on the heat transfer surface. 3. When the metal nets of moderate mesh number are established, the capabilities of heat transfer can be improved in evaporation of liquid in vessels. But in the case that the sucession of bubbles in checked by using the nets which are too tight, the generation of bubbles union decreases critical heat flux. decreases critical heat flux.
In theoretical simulations of proton transfer in DNA, environmental factors nearly have not been considered. In our calculations, using QM/MM method on the basis of CP2K, proton transfer on adenine-thymine base pair is studied in water, at wide scope temperature, and under the external electric field. Our results indicate that the external electric field induces the proton transfer at room temperature, and its intensity and temperature have some effect on hole localization and proton transfer.

Naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to investigate the mass transfer processes from a square cylinder at various Reynolds numbers and various angles of attack. Distribution of the local mass transfer coefficients on each face of the cylinder changes dramatically with the angle of attack. Such variation of local mass transfer rates closely connected with the complex flow phenomena such as stagnation, acceleration, separation, reattachment and vortex shedding. The average Sherwood number has a minimum value at 12.deg.-13.deg., and a maximum value at a=20.deg.-25.deg. A comparison of present mass transfer measurement with other heat transfer measurements, using the heat/mass transfer analogy, shows good agreement in average transfer rates, same trend but notable differences in local values. Therefore, naphthalene sublimation technique can be adopted to explore heat transfer processes in the complex flow situations, which is considered to be hardly possible with the conventional heat transfer measurements.
The extensive usage of pretensioned prestressed concrete component in modem construe- tion as structural members mandates precise understanding of its mechanism. Especially, an adequate transfer of prestressing force from steel tendons to concrete around the end regions of the member is a critical issue. Due to the importance of the topic, several investigators have formulated equations modeling the transfer bond length based on various bonding mechanism between steel and concrete. However, the existing models are still inadequate in predicting the bond development in pretensioned prestressed concrete members. Therefore, this study presents a model of transfer bond length based on rational theory that can simulate experimental results. The model is developed into solid mechanics based structural analysis computer program. The program is validated by comparing the analysis results with experimental results of bond stress distribution, concrete strain profiles, and transfer length in pretensioned prestressed concrete members. The proposed analytical procedure in this study can be utilized as a useful tool for realistic evaluation of transfer length in pretensioned prestressed concrete members.

Research in heat transfer and solidification commonly involves experimentation and mathematical modeling with associated numerical analysis and computation. Inverse problems in heat transfer are part of this paradigm. During the solidification of metal casting, an interfacial heat transfer resistance exists at the boundary between the casting and the mold, and this heat transfer resistance usually varies with time. In the case of the squeeze casting the contact heat transfer resistance is decreased by pressure and ideal contact is almost accomplished. In the present work, heat transfer coefficient, which is inverse value of the heat transfer resistance, was used for convenience. A numerical technique, Non-Linear Estimation has been adopted for calculation of the casting/mold interfacial heat transfer coefficient during the squeeze casting process. In this method, the measured temperature data from experiment were used. The computational results were applied to the analysis of heat transfer and solidification.

Heat transfer augmentation in a rib-roughened duct is affected by the rib configurations, such as rib height, angle of attack, shape, rib to rib pitch, and aspect ratio of a duct. These have been the main subjects in studying the average heat transfer and the friction loss of the fully developed flow. Investigating distributions of local heat transfer coefficients and flow patterns in a duct with the rib turbulators is necessary to find the characteristics of heat transfer augmentation and to decide the optimal configurations of ribs. In the present study the numerical analyses and the mass transfer experiments are performed to understand the flow through a rib roughened duct and the heat transfer characteristics with various angles of attack of ribs. A pair of counter-rotating secondary flow in a duct has a main effect on the lateral distributions of local mass transfer coefficients. Downwash of the rotating secondary flow, reattachment of main flow between ribs and the vortices near ribs and wall enhanced the mass transfer locally up to 8 times of that in case of the duct without ribs.

Forced convective boiling heat transfer coefficients were predicted for an annular flow inside a horizontal tube for pure refrigerants and nonazeotropic binary refrigerant mixtures. The heat transfer coefficients were calculated based on the turbulent temperature profile in liquid film and vapor core considering the composition difference in vapor and liquid phases, and the nonlinearity in mixing rules for the calculation of mixture properties. The heat transfer coefficients of pure refrigerants were estimated within a standard deviation of 14% compared with available experimental data. For nonazeotropic binary refrigerant mixtures, prediction of the heat transfer coefficients was made with a standard deviation of 18%. The heat transfer coefficients of refrigerant mixtures were lower than linearly interpolated values calculated from the heat transfer coefficients of pure refrigerants. This degradation was represented by several factors such as the difference between the liquid and the overall compositions, the conductivity ratio and the viscosity ratio of both components in refrigerant mixtures. The temperature change due to the concentration gradient was a major factor for the heat transfer degradation and the mass flux itself at the interface had a minor effect.
