  • We derive the Z-parameters for the two coupled antennas used for wireless power transfer under the assumption that the antennas are canonical minimum scattering antennas. Using the Z-parameter and the maximum power transfer efficiency formula, we determine the maximum power transfer efficiency of wireless power transfer systems. The results showed that the maximum power transfer efficiency increases as the mode number or the radiation efficiency increases. To verify the theory, we fabricate and measure two different power transfer systems: one comprises two antennas generating $TM_{01}$ mode; the other comprises two antennas generating $TM_{02}$ mode. When the distance between the centers of the antennas was 30 cm, the maximum power transfer efficiency of the antennas generating the $TM_{02}$ mode increased by 62 % compared to that of the antennas generating the $TM_{01}$ mode.

  • This study proposes the control strategy for the seamless mode transfer of indirect current controlled parallel grid-connected inverters. Under the abnormal grid condition, the grid-connected inverter can convert the operation mode from grid-connected to stand-alone mode to supply power to the local load. For a seamless mode transfer, the time delay problems caused by the accumulated control variable error must be solved, and the indirect current control method has been applied as one of the solutions. In this study, the design of control parameters for the proportional-resonant-based triple-loop indirect current controller and the control strategy for the seamless mode transfer of parallel grid-connected inverters are described and analyzed. The validity of the proposed mode transfer method is verified by the PSiM simulation results.

  • The spatter generation rate of GMA welding with $CO_2$ gas shielding was measured with the change of welding conditions such as wire feeding rate and welding voltage and then the results were analized with the accompanying changes in metal transfer mode and in bead geometry. The spatter generation rate (SGR) was relatively low not only wit the short circuit transfer but with the truely globular transfer mode. However, the SGR resulted with the mixed mode were consistantly high. The resultant wave pattern of mixed mode was due to the coexistance of short-circuit and globular transfer and characterized by the frequent appearance of instantaneous short circuit. Considering the result of SGR and that of bead geometry, it could be concluded that when the wire feeding rate (or welding current) was either low or high, the optimum bead shape could be obtained along with the low spatter generation. However, in the middle range of wire feeding rate, the optimum bead shape was only obtained in the mixed mode condition resulting in the high spatter generation.

  • To enable a master-slave control independent microgrid system (MSCIMGS) to supply electricity continuously, the microgrid inverter should perform mode transfer between grid-connected and islanding operations. Transient oscillations should be reduced during transfer to effectively conduct a seamless mode transfer. This study uses a typical MSCIMGS as an example and improves the mode transfer strategy in three aspects: (1) adopts a status-tracking algorithm to improve the switching strategy of the outer loop, (2) uses the voltage magnitude and phase pre-synchronization algorithm to reduce transient shock at the time of grid connection, and (3) applies the hybrid-sensitivity $H_{\infty}$ robust controller instead of the current inner loop to improve the robustness of the controller. Simulations and experiments show that the proposed strategy is more practical than the traditional proportional-derivative control mode transfer and effective in reducing voltage and current oscillations during the transfer period.

  • A grid-connected inverter with critical loads should be able to supply a stable voltage to critical loads at mode change and during clearing time while detecting unintentional islanding. This study proposes a mode transfer method for a grid-connected inverter with critical loads. The proposed method, which integrates the grid-connected and islanded mode control loops into one control block, provides an autonomous and seamless mode transfer from the current control to the voltage control. Therefore, the proposed scheme can supply a stable voltage to critical loads at mode change and during clearing time. Experimental results are provided to validate the proposed method.

  • Spin-lattice relaxation pathway of $CH_2$ spin system by two dimensional NOESY sequence has been discussed. Two-dimensional spectra governed by dipolar relaxation mechanism were simulated in term of transfer mode, the generalization of conventionally used magnetization mode in one dimension. The transfer matrix directly related to the Redfield relaxation matrix can be constructed by the multiplet of transfer mode. The observable relaxation transfer modes causes to variation of the off-diagonal signal intensity of phase sensitive NOESY spectra from which variable spectral density can be extracted with simple group theoretical calculation. The variation of the J-coupling peak intensity as a function of the mixing time in 2-D spectra for $n-Undecane-5-^{13}C$ and Bromoacetic $2-^{13}C$ acid has been theoretically traced.

  • An analytical procedure based on the transfer matrix method to estimate not only the natural frequencies but also vibration mode shapes of the thin-walled members composed of interconnected cylindrical shell panels is presented. The transfer matrix is derived from the differential equations for the cylindrical shell panels. The point matrix relating the state vectors between consecutive shell panels are used to allow the transfer procedures over the cross section of the members. As a result, the interactions between the shell panels of the cross sections of the members can be considered. Although the transfer matrix method is naturally a solution procedure for the one-dimensional problems, this method is well applied to thin-walled members by introducing the trigonometric series into the governing equations of the problem. The natural frequencies and vibration mode shapes of the thin-walled members composed of number of interconnected cylindrical shell panels are observed in this analysis. In addition, the effects of the number of shell panels on the natural frequencies and vibration mode shapes are also examined.

  • The arc stability and the metal transfer mode of high deposition GMA welding were investigated using various compositions of shielding gas with two types of filler, ie solid wire and metal cored wire. As for a solid wire, the transfer mode changed from axial spray to rotational spray with increasing wire feed rate (welding current) and the transition current was different with the gas composition. The gas composition also affected the apparent stability of rotating arc. As for a metal cored wire, on the other hand, no transition occurred and thus spray transfer mode could be applied with the welding current over 500A (deposition rate over 300g/min). Looking for the development of high deposition GMA welding process, above results were discussed in two different ways, one is to elevate the transition current, the other is to stabilize the rotational transfer mode.

  • One of the problems we face up at the time of planning or improving a transportation transfer facility is which modes and how close we have to put together. The goal here is to keep the connecting transportation mode as close as possible to the prime transit mode, so people travel a minimum transfer path, a distance from one mode to another. Too much a physical separation between modes will limit, even with an intensive improvement of the component links, the level of service of a transfer path as a whole. This study defined a transfer path as the whole stretch of the distance from an arrival point of one mode to the departure point of the connecting mode. The transfer path was divided into three typical segments as side walk, stairways, and indoor corridors. Preference surveys were made for each of these segments, resulting in relative resistance. The sum of individual segments weighted with the relative resistance will make a transfer resistance of the path, which in turn constitutes a transfer utility function together with the overall satisfaction score obtained by the interview survey. The transfer utility function has been utilized to evaluate the transfer distance between modes.

  • This paper propose seamless transfer operation between grid-connected and stand-alone mode in the three-phase inverter for microgrid. The inverter operates grid-connected mode and stand-alone mode. Grid-connected mode is the inverter connected to grid and stand-alone mode is to deliver energy to the load from inverter at grid fault. When conversion from gird-connected to stand-alone mode, the inverter changes current control to voltage control. When grid restored, the inverter system is conversion from stand-alone to grid-connected mode. In this case, load phase and grid phase are different. Therefore, synchronization is essential. Thus Seamless transfer operation stand-alone to grid-connected mode. In this paper, propose sealmless transfer operation between grid-connceted and stand-alome mode, and this method is verified through simulation and experiment.
