  • Unlike the existing CMOS chip, ISB (Intelligent Silicon Bead) is new concept biochip equipped with optical communication and memory function. It uses the light for power of SoC CMOS and interface with external devices therefore it is possible to miniaturize a chip size and lower the cost. This paper introduces an input protocol and a design of the low power and the low area to transfer the power and the signal through a single optical signal applied from external reader device to bead chip at the same time. It is also verified through simulation and measurement. In addition, low-power PROM is designed for recording and storing ID of a chip and it is successful in obtaining the value of output according to the optical input. Through this study, a new type biochip development can be expected by solving high cost and a limit of miniaturizing a chip area problem of an existing RFID.

  • iATA (Internet Advanced Technology Attachment) is a block-level protocol developed to transfer ATA commands over TCP/IP network, as an alternative network storage solution to address insufficient storage problem in mobile devices. This paper employs RAID5 distributed storage servers concept into iATA, in which the idea behind is to combine several machines with relatively inexpensive disk drives into a server array that works as a single virtual storage device, thus increasing the reliability and speed of operations. In the case of one machine failed, the server array will not destroy immediately but able to function in a degradation mode. Meanwhile, information can be easily recovered by using boolean exclusive OR (XOR) logical function with the bit information on the remaining machines. We perform I/O measurement and benchmark tool result indicates that additional fault tolerance feature does not delay read/write operations with reasonable file size ranged in 4KB-2MB, yet higher data integrity objective is achieved.

  • The concept of energy-efficient networking has begun to spread in the past few years, gaining increasing popularity. A common opinion among networking researchers is that the sole introduction of low consumption silicon technologies may not be enough to effectively curb energy requirements. Thus, for disruptively boosting the network energy efficiency, these hardware enhancements must be integrated with ad-hoc mechanisms that explicitly manage energy saving, by exploiting network-specific features. The IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) standard is one of such efforts. EEE introduces a low power mode for the most common Ethernet physical layer standards and is expected to provide large energy savings. However, it has been shown that EEE may not achieve good energy efficiency because mode transition overheads can be significant, leading to almost full energy consumption even at low utilization levels. Coalescing techniques such as packet coalescing and interrupt coalescing were proposed to improve energy efficiency of EEE, but their implementations typically adopt a simple policy that employs a few fixed values for coalescing parameters, thus it is difficult to achieve optimal energy efficiency. The paper proposes adaptive interrupt coalescing (AIC) that adopts an optimal policy that could not only improve energy efficiency but support performance. AIC has been implemented at the sender side with the Intel 82579 network interface card (NIC) and e1000e Linux device driver. The experiments were performed at 100 M bps transfer rate and show that energy efficiency of AIC is improved in most cases despite performance consideration and in the best case can be improved up to 37% compared to that of conventional interrupt coalescing techniques.

  • Recently, many countries have been developing new protocols to improve the performance of tactical ad hoc networks for implementing NCW (Network Centric Warfare). Combat net radio (CNR) networks are the most important communication infra for the ground forces such as infantry of Army. U.S. Army had developed MIL-STD-188-220D that is the Interoperability Standard for DMTDs (Digital Messages Transfer Device Subsystems) for voice and data communication in CNR. MIL-STD-188-220D is a candidate for MAC protocol of TMMR which is next radio and has a few constraints to used in TMMR. NAD (Network Access Delay) defined in MIL-STD-188-220D needs time synchronization to avoid collision. However, it is difficult for time synchronization to fit in multi-hop environment. We suggest the enhanced DAP (Deterministic Adaptable Priority)-NAD to prevent conflicts and decrease delays in multi-hop CNR. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the performance in multi-hop CNR networks.

  • When the application code is downloaded into the mobile device, it is important to provide authentication. Usually, mobile code execution is overlapped with downloading to reduce transfer delay. To the best of our knowledge, there has not been any algorithm to authenticate the mobile code in this environment. In this paper, we present two efficient code authentication schemes that permit overlapping of execution and downloading under the two cases: the first is when the order of transmission of code chunks is determined before the transmission and the second is when this order is determined during the transmission. The proposed methods are based on hash chaining and authentication trees, respectively. Especially, the latter scheme utilizes previously received authentication informations to verify the currently received chunk, which reduces both communication overhead and verification delay. When the application code consists of n chunks, communication overheads of the both schemes are 0(n) and verification delays of these two schemes are O(1) and O(log n), respectively.

  • Recently, mobile devices support multi-functions such as 3D game, wireless internet, moving pictures, DMB, GPS, and PMP. Bigger size of display device is indispensable to support these functions and higher speed of the interface is needed. However, conventional parallel interfaces between processor and display nodule are not competent enough for that high speed transfers. High-speed serial interface is beginning to appear as an alternative for parallel interface. The advantages of the serial interface are high bandwidth, small number of interconnections, low-power consumption, and good quality of electro-magnetic interference. In this paper, we implement serial interface and use it for a display module. LVDS is used for PHY layer and a defined packet is used for link layer. The feature of the implemented serial interface is the reduced number of interconnections with enough bandwidth.

  • The objective of this study is to numerically investigate the cooling characteristics of the heat sink as a cooling device for the amplifier. In order to analyze the heat transfer performances of the heat sink, the steady-state thermal model of the ANSYS software was used and analyzed with the fin thickness, fin pitch and fin number of the heat sink. As a result, the temperature at the junction of heat sink was decreased with the increase of fin thickness and fin number. In addition, the thermal resistances of the heat sinks were enhanced from $0.764^{\circ}C/W$ to $0.739^{\circ}C/W$ and $1.254^{\circ}C/W$ to $0.610^{\circ}C/W$, respectively, with the increase of the fin thickness from 1 mm to 3 mm and fin number from 9 to 20, respectively.

  • High-efficiency white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) were fabricated with two emissive layers and a spacer was sandwiched between two phosphorescent dyes which were, bis(3,5-Difluoro-2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl-(2-carboxypyridyl) iridium III (FIrpic) as the blue emission and bis(5-acetyl-2-phenylpyridinato-N,C2') acetylacetonate $((acppy)_2Ir(acac))$ as the red emission. This spacer effectively prevented a triple-triple energy transfer between the two phosphorescent emissive layers with blue and red emission that was showed a improved lifetime. The white device showed Commission Internationale De L'Eclairage $(CIE_{x,y})$ coordinates of (0.33, 0.42) at $22400\;cd/m^2$, a maximum luminance of $27300\;cd/m^2\;at\;0.388\;mA/cm^2$, and a maximum luminous efficiency of 26.9 cd/A.

  • Semiconductor nanocrystal quantum dots (NQDs) have recently attracted considerable interest for use in photovoltaics. Band gaps of NQDs can be tuned over a considerable range by varying the particle size thereby allowing enhance absorption of solar spectrum. NQDs, synthesized using colloidal routes, are solution processable and promise for a large-area fabrication. Recent advancements in multiple-exciton generation in NQD solutions have afforded possible efficiency improvements. Various architectures have attempted to utilize the NQDs in photovoltaics, such as NQD-sensitized solar cell, NQD-bulk-heterojuction solar cell and etc. Here we have fabricated CdSe NQDs with the band gap of 1.8 eV to 2.1 eV on thin-layers of p-type organic crystallites (1.61 eV) to realize a donor-acceptor type heterojuction solar cell. Simple structure as it was, we could control the interface of electrode-p-layer, and n-p-layer and monitor the following efficiency changes. Specifically, surface molecules adsorbed on the NQDs were critical to enhance the carrier transfer among the n-layer where we could verify by measuring the photo-response from the NQD layers only. Further modifying the annealing temperature after the deposition of NQDs on p-layers allowed higher conversion efficiencies in the device.

  • An automatic combination and assembly system for phone-camera lens modules was developed. The system enables the assembly of the relative orientation of the individual lenses making up the lens module. Conventional assembly systems assemble a lens module from eight assembly units. The developed system reduces this number to half by combining each lens and a spacer into a single assembly unit. Also, the number of transfer stages for sequential assembly is minimized without increasing the assembly time. Therefore, high productivity and a footprint that is only about 25 % of that of a conventional assembly system can be realized. The system features a modular design to allow it to cope with rapid changes in the market. Only a few components, such as the picker and guide, need to be replaced for changing to a new assembly model.
