The setting and hardening of concrete is accompanied with nonlinear temperature distribution caused by development of hydration heat of cement. Especially at early ages, this nonlinear distribution has a large influence on the crack evolution. As a result, in order to predict the exact temperature history in concrete structures it is required to examine thermal properties of concrete. In this study, the convection heat transfer coefficient which presents thermal transfer between surface of concrete and air, was experimentally investigated with variables such as velocity of wind, curing condition and ambient temperature. At initial stage, the convection heat transfer coefficient is overestimated by the evaporation quantity. So it is essential to modify the thermal equilibrium considered with the boiling effect. From experimental results, the convection heat transfer coefficient was calculated using equations of thermal equilibrium. Finally, the prediction model for equivalent convection heat transfer coefficient including effects of velocity of wind, curing condition, ambient temperature and boiling effects was theoretically proposed. The convection heat transfer coefficient in the proposed model increases with velocity of wind, and its dependance on wind velocity is varied with curing condition. This tendency is due to a combined heat transfer system of conduction through form and convection to air. From comparison with experimental results, the convection heat transfer coefficient by this model was well agreed with those by experimental results.

The heat transfer characteristics between liquid lead bismuth eutectic (LBE) and helium are of great significance for the two-loop cooling system based on an accelerator-driven system (ADS). This paper presents an experimental study on the resistance characteristics and heat transfer performance in a LBE-helium experimental loop of ADS. Pressure drops in the LBE loop, the main heat transfer, and the coupled heat transfer characteristics between LBE and helium are investigated experimentally. The temperature of LBE has a significant effect on the LBE thermo-physical properties, and is therefore considered in the prediction of pressure drops. The results show that the overall heat transfer coefficient increases with the increasing helium flow rate and the decreasing inlet temperature of helium. Increasing the LBE Reynolds number and LBE inlet temperature promotes the heat transfer performance of main heat transfer and thus the overall heat transfer coefficient. The experimental results give an insight into the flow and heat transfer properties in a LBE-helium heat exchanger and are helpful for the optimization of an ADS system design.
This paper deals with the development of a new method that can obtain heat transfer coefficient and reference tree stream temperature simultaneously. The method is based on transient heat transfer experiments using two narrow-band TLCs. The method is validated through error analysis in terms of the random uncertainties in the measured temperatures. It is shown how the uncertainties in heat transfer coefficient and tree stream temperature can be reduced. The general method described in this paper is applicable to many heat transfer models with unknown free stream temperature.

Experimental study has been carried out on the characteristics of pressure drop and heat transfer of brazed plate heat exchangers using R-404A. Data are presented for the following range of variables: the mass flux ($20~80kg/m^2s$), chevron angle($20^{circ}C,\;35^{circ}C,\;45^{circ}C$) and inlet pressure of he refrigerant (1.4 and 1.6 MPa). for both subcooled and tow-phase flow, as chevron angle increases, pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient decrease. Condensation hat transfer coefficient and pressure drop was compared with the previously proposed correlations. Among them, Traviss correlation agreed with experimental results within -35~82% for heat transfer coefficient and -73~93% for pressure drop.
Contactless electrical power transfer through an air gap is a revived technology for supplying energy to many movable applications including Maglev. In this paper, magnetic equivalent circuits and analytical models of contactless electrical power transfer systems are developed and evaluated through experiment. Overall coupling coefficient and overall efficiency are introduced as means for evaluating the systems' performance. Compensating capacitors in primary and secondary sides of the systems improve the overall coupling coefficient and overall efficiency. Using the analytical models, the effects of different parameters and variables such as air gap and load current are analyzed to give a high coupling coefficient and an improved efficiency of power transfer for different compensation structures.
Generally, methods using transfer techniques, like the transfer matrix method and the transfer stiffness coefficient method, find natural frequencies using the sign change of frequency determinants in searching frequency region. However, these methods may omit some natural frequencies when the initial frequency interval is large. The Sylvester-transfer stiffness coefficient method ("S-TSCM") can always obtain all natural frequencies in the searching frequency region even though the initial frequency interval is large. Because the S-TSCM obtain natural frequencies using the number of natural frequencies existing under a searching frequency. In this paper, the algorithm for the free vibration analysis of axisymmetric conical shells was formulated with S-TSCM. The effectiveness of S-TSCM was verified by comparing numerical results of S-TSCM with those of other methods when analyzing free vibration in two computational models: a truncated conical shell and a complete (not truncated) conical shell.

This paper deals with the heat transfer characteristics of R-1270 (Propylene), R-600a (Iso-butane) and R-290 (Propane) as an environment friendly refrigerant and R-22 for condensing. The experimental apparatus has been set-up as a conventional vapor compression type heat pump system. The test section is a horizontal double pipe heat exchanger. A tube diameter of 12.70 mm with 1.32 mm wall thickness is used for this investigation. The test results showed that the local condensing heat transfer coefficients of hydrocarbon refrigerants were higher than that of R-22. The average condensing heat transfer coefficient was obtained with the maximum value in R-1270 and the minimum one in R-22. Comparing the heat transfer coefficient of experimental results with that of other correlations, the presented results had a good agreement with the Cavallini-Zecchin's correlation. It reveals that the natural refrigerants can be used as substitute for R-22.
Thermal shock behavior of alumina ceramics were studied by quenching the heated alumina specimen into the water of various temperatures over 0~10$0^{\circ}C$. The critical thermal shock temperature difference ( Tc) of the specimen decreased almost linearly from 275$^{\circ}C$ to 20$0^{\circ}C$ with increase in the cooling water temperature over 0~6$0^{\circ}C$. It is probably due to the increase of the maximum cooling rate which is dependent of the convection heat transfer coefficient. The convection heat transfer coefficient is a function of the temperature of the cooling water. However, the critical thermal shock temperature difference( Tc) of the specimen increased at 25$0^{\circ}C$ over 80~10$0^{\circ}C$ due to the film boiling of the cooling water. The maximum cooling rate, which brings about the maximum thermal stress of the specimen in the cooling process, was observed to increase linearly with the increase in the quenching temperature difference of the specimen due to the linear relationship of the convection heat transfer coefficient with the water temperature over 0~6$0^{\circ}C$. The critical maximum cooling rate for thermal shock fracture was observed almost constant to be about 260$\pm$1$0^{\circ}C$/s for all water temperatures over 0~6$0^{\circ}C$. Therefore, thermal shock behavior of alumina ceramics is greatly influenced by the convection heat transfer coefficient of the cooling water.
This study experimentally investigates effect of boiling heat transfer when ultrasonic vibration was applied. Under the wall temperature condition, temperature distribution in a cavity was measured during the boiling process and heat transfer coefficient of convection, sub-tooled boiling and saturated boiling states were measured with and without ultrasonic vibration, respectively. Also, the profiles of the pressure distribution in acoustic field measured by a hydrophone were compared with the augmentation ratios of heat transfer calculated by local heat transfer coefficient. Result of this study, heat transfer coefficient and augmentation ratio of heat transfer is higher with ultrasonic waves than without one. Especially, augmentation ratio of heat transfer is more increased the convection state than sub-cooled boiling and saturated boiling states. Acoustic pressure is relatively higher near ultrasonic transducer than other points where is no installed it and affects the augmentation ratio of heat transfer.

The authors have developed the transfer dynamic stiffness coefficient method(TDSCM) which is based on the concepts of the substructure synthesis method and transfer influence coefficient method. As a result, we suggested the algorithm for free vibration analysis of beam-like structures which are mainly found in mechanical design by applying the TDSCM in the previous reports. In this paper, we extend this algorithm to the forced vibration analysis for them. And we also confirmed the merits of this method.
