Velocity and DCM Partial Matching Methods for Ship Flexure Compensation of Transfer Alignment (전달정렬의 선체 유연성 보상을 위한 속도 및 DCM 부분 정합방식)

  • This paper is concerned with a transfer alignment of SDINS under ship motions. To reduce alignment errors induced by the ship body flexure, an error compensation method is suggested based on velocity and DCM partial matching, and by interpreting the simulation results and comparing with the conventional velocity and quaternion partial matching, it is shown that the proposed method is effective enough to improve the azimuth alignment performance.

Simplified Cubature Kalman Filter for Reducing the Computational Burden and Its Application to the Shipboard INS Transfer Alignment

  • In this paper, a simplified Cubature Kalman Filter (SCKF) is proposed to reduce the computation load of CKF, which is then used as a filter for transfer alignment of shipboard INS. CKF is an approximate Bayesian filter that can be applied to non-linear systems. When an initial estimation error is large, convergence characteristic of the CKF is more stable than that of the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), and the reliability of the filter operation is more ensured than that of the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF). However, when a system degree is large, the computation amount of CKF is also increased significantly, becoming a burden on real-time implementation in embedded systems. A simplified CKF is proposed to address this problem. This filter is applied to shipboard inertial navigation system (INS) transfer alignment. In the filter design for transfer alignment, measurement type and measurement update rate should be determined first, and if an application target is a ship, lever-arm problem, flexure of the hull, and asynchronous time problem between Master Inertial Navigation System (MINS) and Slave Inertial Navigation System (SINS) should be taken into consideration. In this paper, a transfer alignment filter based on SCKF is designed by considering these problems, and its performance is validated based on simulations.

  • Measurement time delay in the transfer alignment is very important. It has been well known that the time delay degrades the alignment performance and makes some navigation errors on the transfer alignment of slave INS(SINS). Therefore there are many schemes to eliminate that time delay but the compensation technique through the estimation by Kalman filter through modeling the time delay as a random constant is generally used. In the case of change over measurement time delay or the large measurement time delay, estimation performance in the existing compensation technique is degraded because model of time delay is not correct any more. In this paper, we propose the method to keep the time delay almost constant even though in the abnormal communication state and very small through feedback compensation using double buffer. Double buffer consists of two moving window to temporarily store measurements from master INS and slave INS in real time.

  • In Strapdown Inertial Navigation System, alignment accuracy is the most important factor to determine the performance of navigation. However by an existing self-alignment method, it takes a long time to acquire the alignment accuracy that we want. So, to attain the desired alignment accuracy in as little as $\bigcirc$ minutes, we have developed the precise multi-position alignment method. In this paper, it is proposed a inertial measurement matching transfer alignment method among alignment methods to minimize the alignment error in a short time. It is based on a mixed velocity-DCM matching method be suitable to the operating environment of vertical launching system. The compensation methods to reduce misalign error, especially azimuth angle error incurred by measurement time-delay error and body flexure error are analyzed and evaluated with simulation. This simulation results are finally confirmed by experimentations using FMS(Flight Motion Simulator) in Lab and the integration test to follow the fire control mission.

Heat Transfer Characteristics of Flat Plate Finned-Tube Heat Exchangers with a Variation of Fin Pitch and Number of Tube Row (핀-튜브 열교환기의 핀피치 및 열수 변화에 따른 열전달 성능특성에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the heat transfer performance of flat plate finned-tube heat exchangers with large fin pitch. In this study, twenty-two heat exchangers were tested with a variation of fin pitch, number of tube row, and tube alignment. The heat transfer coefficient decreased with a reduction of the fin pitch and an increase of the number of tube row. The staggered tube alignment improved heat transfer performance more than $10\%$ compared to the inline tube alignment. A heat transfer correlation was developed from the measured data for flat plate finned-tubes with large fin pitch. The correlation yielded good predictions of the measured data with mean deviations of $3.6\%\;and\;6.4\%$ for the inline and staggered tube alignment, respectively.

  • This paper presents algorithm including Kalman filter for transfer alignment of velocity and quaternion matching method, when master inertial navigation system is a gimbled type and slave inertial navigation system is a strapdown type on a cruising ship which is naturally in motion of horizontal axis attitude. And relative attitudes are considered on a measurement equation for quaternion matching between master INS and slave INS.

  • A simulation technique, which simulate dynamic motion and communication environments of ship in the lab, is needed in order to reduce the testing cost when we evaluate the transfer alignment performance of shipboard INS. Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation(HILS) can be used as an effective test method for those system because it can provide flexible and realistic simulation environments, various test scenario, and repeated test environment in the lab without additional cost and person. This paper presents the methods for implementing the real time HILS environment for testing transfer alignment performance of shipboard INS. It includes real time executive for controlling realtime simulation and calculating the ship motion, communication method for interfacing between the systems, and coordinate transformation method for converting real ship coordinate attitude data to lab coordinate attitude data.

Experimental Study on the Heat Transfer Characteristics of Spiral Fin-Tube Heat Exchangers (나선형 핀튜브 열교환기의 열전달 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This study experimentally examines the air-side performance of spiral finned tube heat exchangers. The effects of fin spacing, fin height, and tube alignment were investigated. Reduction of fin spacing decreased the Colburn j factor. However, the effect of fin height on the Colburn j factor was negligible. An increase of tube row decreased the Nusselt number for both staggered and in-line tube alignments. However, the decrease of the Nusselt number for the in-line tube alignment was much more significant than that of the staggered tube alignment. The average Nusselt number of the staggered tube alignment was larger than that of the in-line tube alignment by $10\%$ when the Reynolds number ranged from 300 to 1700. An empirical correlation of the Nusselt number was developed by using geometric parameters of heat exchanger and correction factors. The correction factor considered the effects of tube alignment and number of tube rows on the heat transfer. The proposed correlation yielded a mean deviation of $4\%$ from the present data.

  • In order to develope transfer alignment algorithm which achieves accurate initial alignment of slave strapdown inertial navigation system(SDINS) of a missle using master SDINS of mobile launchers third-order suboptimal filter is constructed to estimate the transformation matrix between two SDINS coordinates. In Kalman Filter formulation, the measurement equation uses that of accelerometer when stationary, and is replaced by that of gyroscope when elevating the missle. This switching method is applied to increase the degree of observability and to remove the error generated by lever arm effect. Simulation results show that the azimuth transfer error is about 0.3 mrad, and confirm that this scheme has a potential for real application.

  • The optical element was usually used in optical devices and optical transfer devices, but it has been recently used in communication, computer and medical equipment. With the development of very high speed optical-communication, the development of the kernel parts of optical communication has also increased. Presently, the alignment of the optical element is time consuming, and an effective alignment algorithm has not yet to be developed. In this paper, the alignment automation of the optical element is studied. The ultra precision stage is applied to an optical element alignment to improve the accuracy of the alignment. The automation program of the optical element alignment is developed by LabVIEW programming to save the alignment time. The alignment algorithms of the optical element consist of field search and peak search algorithms.
