On Improving the Productivity of Busan Container Terminal (부산 컨테이너 부두의 효율적인 운영방안에 관하여)

  • Since the middle of 1950's, containerization has been rapidly spread over the world in virtue of great merits providing to interensts, and the fundamental changes in port management and prot operations are resulted. As the container terminal is a complex system which is consisted of various subsystems, the treatment for improving the productivity is required in a comprehensive fashion, both in each of its parts and as an integrated system. This paper aims to make an intensive analysis of the Busan Container Terminal system, especially focusing on its subsystems such as ship operation system, storage system and transfer system. First of all, the intrinsic capacity of various subsystems is calculated and it is checked whether the current operation is being performed effectively through the formal analysis. Secondly, the suggestion is presented to improve the operation by considering the throughput that the port of Busan will have to accept in the near future. The results are as follows; 1) As the inefficiency is due to the imbalance between various subsystems at Busan terminal, transfer equipment level must be up to 31% for straddle carrier and 67% transfer crane above all. 2) The yard capacity must be increased by reducing the free dwell time of containers in order to accept the traffic volume smoothly in the near future. 3) The better way to reduce the port congestion is to change berthing rule from the FIFP to the Pre-allocated system by considering the ship arrival pattern.

  • We have considered and developed a subsystem of switching system which provides Internet access service, taking into considerations of traffic and quality problems. In this paper, Internet subsystem with a structure and function has been presented that turns the switching system into the optimized gateway between switching system and Internet. And, this paper developed simulation model and analyzed a performance of inter-processor communication unit which practically functions as an Internet traffic transfer.

  • As a domestic traffic control signal system, either the system with which a traffic signal turns into green at regular intervals or the system with which an amber or a red signal flickers on local roads without heavy traffic at midnight has been utilized. However, when the former system is used for roads with light traffic at midnight, delays and congestion can be incurred. Besides, in case of the latter signal system, the risk of vehicle crash is high. This study proposes a response type of flickering green signal system that rearranges signal system after analyzing beacon messages including sensor data. The proposed system, on a trunk road or a branch road at midnight, makes the signal keep flickering in green; When a vehicle enters the range of RSE, the transfer coverage, it transmits beacon messages regularly and Agent System analyzes the messages and alters the signal. It is a system by which vehicles move following the altered signal system, which will not only ensure smooth flow but also prevent vehicles from crashing on a road with light traffic. As a result of a simulation, traffic throughput and the average waiting time displayed 10 to 30 percent better improvement than existing signal systems, in terms of performance.

  • Optical transport has been sucessfully developed as a fast information transfer since 1970s, and a WDM system, based on the wavelength division multiplexing technique, was implemented to the backbone network. The WDM technique is able to improve its data traffic by utilizing its optical fiber efficiently, and is suitable for an easy network operation and management. Therefore, trend for DWDM, which is known to be one of DWM system being currently used, and the direction for optical network development will be investigated in this study.

  • Thermosyphons are simple devices that can passively transport thermal energy over relatively long distance with little temperature degradation. These attributes permit the use of low grade thermal energy for thermal control of structures including the snow melting and deicing to the pavement surface. The thermosyphon system requires no costly energy input and Is completely maintenance free. This paper presents the experimental results of the snow melting system in which thermosyphon was utilized to transfer the geothermal energy to the pavement to obviate slipping traffic accidents due to freezing of pavement in winter.

  • In general, golden time refers to the most important time in the initial response to accidents such as saving lives or extinguishing fires. The golden time varies from disaster to disaster, but is aimed at five minutes in terms of fire and first aid. However, for the actual site, the average dispatch time for ambulances is 9 minutes and the average transfer time is 17.6 minutes, which is quite large compared to the golden time. There are various causes for this delay, but the main cause is traffic jams. In order to solve the problem, the government has established emergency car concession obligations and secured golden time to prioritize ambulances in places with the highest accident rate, but it is not a solution in rush hour when traffic is increasing rapidly. Therefore, this paper proposed a deep learning-based emergency vehicle priority signal system using collected sound data by installing sound sensors on traffic lights and conducted an experiment to classify frequency signals that differ depending on the distance of the emergency vehicle.

  • There is explosive increase of traffic with economic growth and high level of civilization, and the increase causes so many complicated traffic problems. To solve these problem, the best way is expansion of road. bridges and some kind of traffic establishments. But this way need so many investment of time and money. So We must use the bounded roads and bounded establishments very effective way. To do so we have to gather the information about the road, vehicles, and etc. In this study, I will introduce you the way of gathering the information about vehicles, and transferring database server.

  • This paper proposes a heuristic load balancing algorithm for multiprocessor systems. The algorithm minimizes the number of idle links to distribute load traffic and reduces its communication cost. Each processor iteratively tries to transfer unit load to/from every neighbor processors. However, real load transfer is collectively done after complete load traffic calculation to minimize useless traffic. The proposed algorithm can be employed in various interconnection topologies with slight modifications. In this paper, it is applied to both hypercube and mesh environments. For performance evaluation, simulation studies are performed. The performance of proposed algorithm is compared to those of two well-known algorithms. The results show that the proposed algorithm always balances the loads perfectly. Furthermore, it reduces the communication costs by $70{\%}{\~}90{\%}$ in the hypercube ; and it reduces the cost by $\75{\%}$ in the mesh, compared to existing algorithms.

  • Currently, ITS (Intelligent Transport System) system is supporting a variety of services to be enhanced traffic's efficiency and driver's safety as developing of information communications and network technology. High data transfer communications such as Wibro, HSPA and WAVE are used for providing ITS services, but there are some differences from specification and performance applied. So, users who are employing the communication systems to transfer data whatever they want to have been suffering from use. In this paper, it is proposed that user can use various high data transfer communication systems wherever environments they are in using adaptation of system change. Also, it is implemented performance of system which uses alternate communication scheme in mobile terminal based on embedded platform.

  • Today, the data broadcasting service provides various multimedia contents to users. This paper suggests a resource management system which controls multimedia resources in order to reduce the receiving time of the contents during the realtime data broadcasting of multimedia traffic information. To verify the efficiency of the resource management system, this paper has introduced the realtime traffic information integrating and authoring systems through MOT (Multimedia Object Transfer) protocol-based BWS (Broadcast Web Site) service in which multimedia data are transmitted by T-DMB (Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) and implemented a resource management system which controls the creation of multimedia resources in connection with the said systems. As the receiving time of the contents created with resources from the resource management system has decreased by 1/13, they are suitable for realtime data broadcasting.
