In this study, we develop a method to achieve heat transfer enhancement inside a square duct with high aspect ratio without changing any inner structures. Especially, a method to lower the possible maximum temperature is suggested if constant heat flux is provided to single surface of square duct. Knowing the fact that heat transfer rate is inversely proportional to flow area, we proposed tapered channel concept which uses narrower gap toward the flow exit where the maximum temperature is expected. To maintain equivalent power consumption, inlet section has been enlarged. To verify the proposed concept, experimental tests have been performed.
A comparison of fully developed heat transfer and friction factor characteristics has been made in rectangular ducts with one wall roughened by five different shapes. The effects of rib shape geometries and Reynolds number are examined. The rib height-to-duct hydraulic diameter, pitch-to-height ratio, and aspect ratio of channel width to height are fixed at $e/D_e=0.0476$, P/e=8, and W/H=2.33, respectively. To understand the mechanisms of the heat transfer enhancements, the measurements of the friction factors are also conducted in the smooth and rough channels. The data indicate that the triangular type rib has a substantially higher efficiency index than any other ones in the range we studied.

Convective heat transfer coefficient was measured around a circular secondary jet ejected into the supersonic flow field. The wall temperature measurement around a injection nozzle was conducted using infra-red camera. The constant heat flux is applied to the wall around a secondary nozzle. According to jet to freestream momentum ratio, the injection flow penetrates into the supersonic flow field. The measured temperature is used to calculate the convective heat transfer coefficient.

The objective of the present study is to investigate the convective instability driven by buoyancy and the heat transfer characteristics of nanofluids. Using the property relations of nanofluid expressed as a function of the volume fraction of nanoparticles, the ratio of nanofluid Rayleigh number to basefluid one, f is newly defined. The results show that the density and the heat capacity of nanoparticles act as a destabilizing factor. With an increase of ${\gamma}$ which is the ratio of thermal conductivity of nanoparticles to that of basefluid, the thermal instability of nanofluid decreases but the heat transfer rate increases.

Due to the coupling between momentum and energy transport theoretical analysis of the loop performance is very complicate, therefore it is necessary that these problems be solved by experimental investigation before applying th loop thermosyphon to heat exchanger design. The evaporator and condenser of the loop thermosyphon were made of carbon-steel, and distilled water was used as working fluid in the experiments. From the experimental data correlations of heat transfer coefficient for evaporator and condenser sections were obtained. For heat fluxes in th range of 13~78kW/$m^2$, the correlation equations of heat transfer coefficients in evaporator and condenser predict the experimental behavior to within $\p$\pm$5% and\;\pm20$% respectively.

The influence of reciprocating frequency and radius on heat transfer in the roughened rectangular channel is experimentally investigated. The aspect ratio (width/height) of the duct is 2.33 and the rib height is one fifteenth of the duct height. And the ratio of rib-to-rib distance to rib height is 10. The discrete ribs were periodically attached to the button wall of the duct with a parallel orientation. The parametric test matrix involves Reynolds number, reciprocating, and reciprocating radius, in the ranges, 1,000∼6,000, 1.7∼2.5 HB and 7∼15cm, respectively. The combined effects of reciprocating frequency and reciprocating radius have considerable influence on the heat transfer due to the modified vortex flow structure.
The study on the characteristics of heat transfer by various working fluid and wick structure is an important subject in order to design low temperature heat pipe. The purpose of this research was to study the heat transfer characteristics of heat pipe according to various working fluid and wick thickness by ADI method and experimental results. As the results the heat transfer by various working fluid could improve by good heat conductivity of fluid and small ratio t/k. The working fluid could be selected in close vicinity to boiling temperature among fluid properties the value of ratio little influenced heat transfer of heat pipe. In case of distilled water, the response of the effect in heat recovery was more rapidly showed than response of other working fluid. The maximum heat flux increased in proportion to the characteristics of working fluid but the pore and wick permeability among wick characteristic was little effect in the wetting state.
The natural convection heat transfer in a vertical plate with discrete heat sources was studied experimentally. The particular interest was the thermal interaction of the heat sources. In this study, the radiative and conductive heat transfer were considered as heat loss, Thus, the net convective heat transfer rate was presented as adiabatic temperature and thermal wake function. As a results, for non-uniform heating condition, heat input ratio(q1/q2) was most dominant parameter for the thermal wake function. The convective heat transfer rate is decreased with the increasing of channel ratio. For the range of $7.50{\times}10^5<Rac<8.66{\times}10^6$, a useful correlation was proposed as a function of channel Rayleigh number.

Surface heat transfer of a fully developed turbulent air flow in a $45^{\circ}$ inclined ribbed square duct with two and four heating walls was experimentally investigated, at which the experimental works were performed for Reynolds numbers ranging from 7,600 to 24,900. The pitch-to-rib height ratio, p/e was kept at 8 and rib-height-to-channel hydraulic diameter ratio, $e/D_h$ was kept at 0.0667. The channel length-to-hydraulic diameter ratio, $L/D_h$ was 60. The heat transfer coefficient values were decreased with the increase in the number of heating walls. Results of this investigation could be used in various applications of internal channel turbulent flow involving roughened walls.

The organic electroluminescent(EL) device has gathered much interest because of its large potential in materials and simple device fabrication. We fabricated EL devices which have a blended single emitting layer containg poly(Nvinylcarbazole)[PVK] and poly(3-dodecylthiophene)[P3DoDT]. The molar ratio between P3DoDT and PVK changed with 1:0, 2:1 and 1:1. To improve the external quantum efficiency of EL devices, we applied insulating layer, LiF layer between polymer emitting layer and AI electrode. All of the devices emit orange-red light and it's can be explained that the energy transfer occurs from PVK to P3DoDT. Within the molar ratio 1:0, 2:1 and 1:1, the energy transfer was not saturated, which results in the not appearance of PVK emission in the blue region. In the voltage-current and voltage-light power characteristics of devices applied LiF layer, current and light power drastically increased with increasing with applied voltage. In the consequence of the result, the light power of the device have a molar ratio 1:1 with LiF layer was about 10 times larger than that of the device without PVK at 6V.
