A Study on Improvement of Sound Quality of Vehicle Using the Vibrational Power Flow (진동 유동해석기법을 이용한 자동차 실내소음 저감 및 음질 개선)

  • Reduction of structure-borne noise of the compartment in a car is an important task in automotive engineering. Transfer path analysis using vibroacoustic reciprocity technique or multiple path decomposition method has generally been used for structure-borne noise path analysis. These methods are useful in solving particular problem but do not quantify the effectiveness of vibration isolation of each isolator of a vehicle. To quantify the effectiveness of vibration isolation, the vibrational power flow has been used for a simple isolation system or a laboratory based isolation system. It is often difficult to apply the vibrational power flow technique to the complex isolation system like a car. In this paper, a simple equation is derived for calculation of the vibrational power flow of an isolation system with multiple isolators such as a car. It is successfully applied to not only quantifying the relative contributions of eighteen isolators but also reducing structure-borne noise of a passenger car. According to the results, the main contributor of eighteen isolators is the rear roll mount of an engine. The reduced structure-borne noise level is about 5dBA.

  • In this paper, the capacity criteria have been proposed in order to select a cooperative relay node in WSNs, under the environment where direct path has a poor link gain. This process may ensure the efficiency improvement of signal transfer between source and destination and reduction of energy consumption as well. Two criteria are incorporated to select a cooperative relay node. Firstly, calculate the energy gain ratio between the relay path and the direct path. Secondly, investigate the effects of relay node's usage in WSNs through the simulation in terms of energy consumption. In the simulation, the relationship between energy consumption and direct path gain, uniformly generated in the certain range and its positive effects have been identified.

  • Effective acquisition technology is an important factor determining the competitiveness of companies(Roxas et al., 2011). Since the importance of technology transfer has been increased, there has been a growing interest in company, government, university and research institutes (Bozeman et al., 2015). Despite the national efforts for activating technology transfer, a lot of technology is still in universities and R&D center(Ockwell et al., 2009). The barriers of technology transfer are a main reason to inhibit the technology transfer. In order to be lower technology transfer barriers, it is necessary to derive the technology transfer broker based on social network analysis. However, most studies related to technology transfer broker had been focused on empirical study(Bozeman et al., 2015). Therefore, it is needed to suggest the method to grasp the opportunity that can lead to technology innovation based on analyzing and visualizing the network of technology transfer. The method in this study provides the company with the connectable path, technology transfer broker and strategy to classify the technology actor within the network. Finally, the method is applied to Global MVP for verifying the feasibility of method.

Numerical Study of Heat Transfer with Selective Phase Change in Two Different Phase Change Materials (이종 PCM의 선택적 상변화 시의 열전달 해석)

  • A numerical analysis of solid-liquid phase change was performed on a heat transfer module which consisted of circulating water path (BRINE), heat transfer plate (HTP) and phase change material (PCM) layers, such as high temperature PCM (HPCM, $78{\sim}79^{\circ}C$) and low temperature PCM (LPCM, $28{\sim}29^{\circ}C$). There were five arrangements, consisting of BRINE, HTP, LPCM and HPCM layers in the heat transfer module. The time and heat transfer rate for melting/solidification was compared to their arrangements, against each other. As results, the numerical time without convection was longer than the experimental one for melting/solidification. Moreover, the melting/solidification with the BRINE I-LPCM-BRINE II-HPCM arrangement was faster(10 hours) than the others; HPCM-BRINE-LPCM, BRINE I-HPCM-LPCM-BRINE II one.

  • Transfer types at the Seoul Metropolitan Urban Railway Stations can be classified into transfer between lines and station transfer. Station transfer is defined as occurring when either 1) the operating line that operates the tag-in card-reader and that operating the first train boarded by the passenger are different; or 2) the line operating the final alighted train and that operating the tag-out card-reader are different. In existing research, transportation card data is used to estimate transfer volume between lines, but excludes station transfer volume which leads to underestimation of volume through transfer passages. This research applies transportation card data to a method for station transfer volume estimation. To achieve this, the passenger path choice model is made appropriate for station transfer estimation using a modified big-node based network construction and data structure method. Case study analysis is performed using about 8 million daily data inputs from the metropolitan urban railway.

Identification of the Interior Noise Generated by SUV Axle and Modification of the Structural on Axle System for Noise Reduction (SUV용 액슬의 소음원 규명 및 소음 저감을 위한 액슬의 구조변경에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents experimental and analytic methods to reduce interior noise generated by car axle. The test vehicle has a whine noise problem at passenger seats. In order to identify transfer path of interior axle noise, the vibration path analysis, the modal analysis and running modal analysis are systematically employed. By using these various methods, it has been founded that the interior noise generated by car axle was air borne noise. To reduce and predict axle noise, various structural modifications are performed by using FEM and BEM techniques, respectively. Through the modification of the axle structure, the air borne noise of the axle was reduced 3$\sim$4 dBA level.

  • It is important for identification of noise and vibration problem of tire to consider influence of interaction between road and tire. A quantification of road noise is a challenging issue in vehicle NVH due to extremely complicated transfer paths of road noise as well as the difficulty in an experimental identification of input force from tire-road interaction. A noise caused by tire is divided into road noise(structure-borne noise) and pattern noise(air-borne noise). Pattern noise is caused by pattern shape of tire, which has larger than 500 Hz, but road noise is generated by the interactions between a tire and a vehicle body. In this paper, we define the quantitative analysis for road noise caused by interactions between tire and road parameters. For the identification of road noise, the chassis dynamometer that is equipped $10mm{\times}10mm $ square cleat in the semi-anechoic chamber is used, and the tire spindle forces are measured by load cell. The vibro-acoustic transfer function between ear position and wheel center was measured by the vibro-acoustic reciprocity method. In this study three tires with different type of mechanical are used for the experiment work.

Structural Design for Key Dimensions of Printed Circuit Heat Exchanger (인쇄기판형열교환기 핵심치수 구조설계)

  • The mechanical design procedure is studied for the PCHE(printed circuit heat exchanger) with electrochemical etched flow channels. The effective heat transfer plates of PCHE are assembled by diffusion bonding to make a module. PCHE is widely used for industrial applications due to its compactness, cost efficiency, and serviceability at high pressure and/or temperature conditions. The limitations and technical barriers of PCHE are investigated for application to nuclear components. Rules for design and fabrication of PCHE are specified in ASME Section VIII but not in ASME Section III of nuclear components. Therefore, the calculation procedure of key dimensions of PCHE is defined based on ASME section VIII. The effective heat transfer region of PCHE is defined by several key dimensions such as the flow channel radius, edge width, wall thickness, and ridge width. The mechanical design procedure of key dimensions was incorporated into a program for easy use in the PCHE design. The effect of assumptions used in the key dimension calculation on stress values is numerically investigated. A comparative analysis is done by comparing finite element analysis results for the semi-circular flow channels with the formula based sizing calculation assuming rectangular cross sections.

  • A design process for the structure-borne noise in a passenger vehicle is presented. The proposed process is improved from the previous one. The major difference between the current and last ones is that most of the countermeasures should be developed before fixing a tool for structural parts. This is requested for QCDP(Quality, Cost, Delivery and Productivity) by the design engineers. The proposed one consists of 4 steps: Problem definition, Cause analysis, Development of counter-measure and Validation. Based on the general rule: divide and conquer, the complex problem can be simplified into a few critical sub-systems through the first step: Problem definition. Secondly, the critical causes can be identified for the critical sub-systems through the second step: Cause analysis. Thirdly, effective countermeasures are investigated and produced through the third step: Countermeasure development. The proposed countermeasures are finally validated in the forth step: Validation.

Prediction of Spectral Phonon Mean Free Path Contribution to Thermal Conduction in Silicon Using Phonon Kinetic Theory (포논 기체 운동론을 이용한 실리콘 내 포논 평균자유행로 스펙트럼 열전도율 기여도 예측)

  • Knowing the mean free paths (MFPs) of thermal phonons is an essential step in performing heat transfer analysis for nanomaterials, and in determining the optimum design for tailoring the heat transfer characteristics of nanomaterials. In this study, we present a method that can be used to calculate accurately the phonon MFP spectra of nanostructures based on simple phonon kinetic theory. Here, the kinetic theory may be employed by extracting only the diffusive-transport part of the phonon spectrum (i.e., the MFPs are less than a thermal length). By considering phonon dispersion and polarization effects, the phonon MFP distributions of silicon at room temperature are calculated from phonon transport properties and the spectral MFP. Our results are validated by comparison with those of the first principle and MFP spectroscopy data.
