  • For large reciprocating compressors in parallel operation, an analytical study has been carried out on the gas pulsation in associated discharge piping lines. Since the pressure pulsation at a valve, valve dynamics, and the gas flow rate through the valve are interrelated, affecting one another, these need to be solved simultaneously. Acoustic transfer matrix method, which relates acoustic pressure and velocity at one location to those at another location, has been adopted to calculate the effect of the gas flow at one valve location on the gas pulsation at other valve locations.

  • The purpose of the present study is to identify the drying cylinder model in paper plants and to analyze characteristics of process responses for changes in input variables. The model developed in this work is based on actual plant operation data and the steam pressure applied to the cylinder behaves as one the main variables. It is found that heat transfer coefficients from the condensate to the canvas could be represented as empirical relations based on heat conductivities and operation date. The effectiveness of the cylinder model is demonstrated by the measured moisture contents and web temperature. Using transfer functions derived from the cylinder model stability of the drying process is analyzed.

  • To improve economic of solar power generation, stirling engine is required continuous operation and the receiver has to be provided with an additional combustion system. The hybrid receiver with a specially adapted combustion system is possible to 24 hr/day operation by solar and gas-fired. The inner cavity and external wall serve as absorber surfaces using collected irradiation and heat transfer surfaces for the gas heat flow, respectively. The hybrid receiver was designed and fabricated for the dish/stirling system. The analytical method for pridicting natural convective heat loss from receiver is used. The Koenig and Marvin model is used to estimate convection heat loss and heat transfer coefficiency.

  • The purposes of this research are to modelize test system of SM TESTING by ARENA, software, input several items of specimen's testing process, resources of system and transfer loop, etc, give a hypothesis and then, obtain results reducing the efficiency of the whole system finally by overload of specific facilities in the testing system through the simulation so as to obtain several materials such as specimen and testing facility, transfer loop, etc. by simple and various forms without any necessity of numerical modelization. It will add facilities of over load and reduce facilities with low operation rate, so increase the efficiency of the system.

  • Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) of satellite image is an important performance index in satellite image applications. Therefore MTF performance is assessed using satellite image for the ground target during LEOP phase after launch. But the MTF performance assessment using the ground target can be affected by imaging conditions such as cloud and weather. In this paper system requirements and satellite operation for assessing MTF performance of satellite image using stellar sources are proposed. Satellite capability in collecting stellar sources using the satellite which is designed for earth observation and satellite image usefulness for assessing MTF performances were analyzed. The proposed approach will be useful to assess MTF performance of earth observation satellite in lower earth orbit.

  • A 75ton thrust turbopump system for liquid rocket engine was analyzed thermally and mechanically. A 2D axisymmetric model of the turbopump assembly was created. In the analysis operation cycle including chill-down, operation and post operation steps were considered. Appropriate heat transfer conditions for each step were modeled and applied. Transient temperature distribution was calculated, consequent mechanical analysis was conducted to predict stress and deformation. Effects of external heat insulators and heat dissipation at the bearings were considered in the heat transfer analysis.

  • The aim of this paper is to present the most important issues on the implementation, operation and maintenance of foundation for machines. The article presents the newest solutions both in terms of technology implementation as well as materials used in construction of such structures. Foundations for machines are special building structures used to transfer loads from an operating machine to the subsoil. The purpose of these foundations is not just to transfer loads, but also to reduce vibrations occurring during operation of the machine, i.e. their damping and preventing redistribution to other elements of the building. It should be noted that foundations for machines (particularly foundations for hammers) are the most dynamically loaded building structures. For these reasons, they require precise static and dynamic calculations, accuracy in their implementation and care for them after they have been made. Therefore, the paper in detail present the guidelines regarding: design, construction and maintenance of structures of this type. Furthermore, the most important parameters and characteristics of materials used for the construction of these foundations are described. As a result of the conducted analyzes, it was found that the concrete mix, in foundations for machines, should have a low water/binder ratio. For its execution, it is necessary to use broken aggregates from igneous rocks and binders modified with mineral additives and chemical admixtures. On the other hand, the reinforcement of composites should contain a large amount of structural reinforcement to prevent shrinkage cracks.

  • This paper proposes a method to adjust the turn ratio of a transformer for the high-efficiency operation of an LLC converter with a wide input range in a wired/wireless integrated charging system for electric vehicles. The characteristics of the inductive power transfer converter in the integrated charging system are analyzed to design the LLC converter, and the DC-link voltage range is derived. The aspect of voltage gain following each parameter of the LLC converter is analyzed, and the resonant network and transformer are designed. Based on the designed parameters, the feasibility of the design and control method is verified by implementing the operation of the LLC converter according to the DC-link and battery voltages.

  • Total Transfer Capability (TTC) should be pre-determined in order to estimate Available Transfer Capability (ATC). Typically, TTC is determined by considering three categories; voltage, stability and thermal limits. Among these, thermal limits are treated mainly in this paper on the evaluation of TTC due to the relatively short transmission line length of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) system. This paper presents a new approach to evaluate the TTC using the Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) for the thermal limit. Since the approach includes not only traditional electrical constraints but also real-time environmental constraints, this paper obtains more cost-effective and exact results. A case study using KEPCO system confirms that the proposed method is useful for real-time operation and the planning of the electricity market.

  • The aim of this study is to numerically investigate a compact reformer system currently under development and to design a better reforming system with more efficient heat transfer and reforming reactions. Numerical models were established separately for both the combustion part and the reforming reaction part. A comparison between the calculation results and experimental data showed that the concentration of the reformate at the exit of the reforming system was in good agreement with the measured data, but for the temperature at the exit little difference between them was found. After checking the validity of the numerical models, the heat transfer between the combustion gas and reforming catalysts was estimated and the behavior of the catalyst bed was investigated as a function of the operation parameters.
