The purpose of this study is to investigate implications for future STEAM education by analyzing the surveys by the in-service teachers who participated in the Advanced STEAM Teacher Training Program(ASTTP) for raising interests and understanding of science and technology and nurturing STEAM literacy and problem-solving ability of students. ASTTP was developed for promoting 'teacher competence for STEAM.' ASTTP is a 60-hour program(4 credits), which includes offline intensive course of 38 hours, online training course of 12 hours, a course of implementation at schools for 5 hours, and a workshop for 5 hours (based on the 2014 program). For the offline intensive course, teachers take various professional development classes and activities, such as open-laboratory tours, advanced experiments, mentoring programs, and team projects as well as lectures on diverse disciplines. For the online course, teachers take online classes freely while they are encouraged to work with other teachers in groups. After taking both online and offline courses, the teachers are required to implement their STEAM lesson plans in their classrooms. Finally at the workshop, some selected teachers share how successfully they have implemented STEAM education. About 700 teachers have successfully taken the program from 2012 to 2014. Based on the surveys by the teachers, the program has been modified and improved. Our analysis shows increased professional development in STEAM education for the participating teachers. This study can provide some implication and helpful insights for people who need to develop and manage teacher training programs for STEAM education and other education programs in general.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was examine the effects of Self-Development training on the Self-Identity for head nurses. Methods : The sample consisted of 24 head nurses in one university hospital in Seoul. The subjects were divided into two groups for the training. Self-Development training was developed by the researcher for during 4 sessions in two weeks that is, 2 hours a day/ 2 times a weeks / two weeks / each group. Self-Development training program consists of identification of self-development elements, self-identification I, self-identification II, and human relationship. Two-weeks before and 4-weeks after the training, subjects completed the questionnaires. Analysis was done by SPSS PC 10.0 for percentile, mean, standard deviation, paired t-test and correlation. Results : The results of this study showed that the Self-Identity had not significant differences before and after Self-Development Training. When compared 5 subscales, self-assertiveness is significant difference, and goal-directedness has the lowest score before and after training. 11(46%) of head nurses mean scores at the 4 weeks after training were slight higher. Conclusion: On the basis of the finding, the researcher makes the following conclusion. This study is one step towards understanding the impact of Self-Identity for the head nurses. It would be beneficial to replicate this study with larger, more diverse samples.
Purpose: This descriptive research was conducted to identify educational needs in pediatric nursing handoff training to improve students' handoff skills. Methods: Data were collected using a survey with 188 senior nursing students and 48 pediatric nursing professors and clinical nurses. The survey included items on general information as well as experiences in handoff training, necessity, training content, and items for a handoff training program in pediatric nursing. Results: Of the nursing students, 30.5% reported receiving handoff training during their clinical hours. After their handoff training, the students' confidence index was only 3.78 out of 10. Significantly, 98.3% of the respondents said that pediatric handoff training is necessary. In addition, participants reported that simulation practice (26.5%) is an appropriate educational method, and the time required for handoff training should be 8.16 hrs. Admission process was placed first as the most critical circumstance for handoff (56.8%). High demands were observed for the necessity of training content for patients with respiratory problems. Conclusion: The results of this study show the various educational needs for developing a patient safety pediatric handoff training program to promote nursing students' skills in handoff.
This study included 12 mothers and their 5-year-old children. Over 5 weeks, mothers participated in 2 hours filial therapy training twice a week, and 30 minutes special play at home once a week. Each mother was videotaped playing with her child and completed three self-report instruments : Parental Acceptance Scale(Porter, 1954), Parenting Stress Index(Abidin, 1990), and Child Behavior Checklist(Oh et al., 1997). These measurements were taken three times : before, immediately after, and 8 weeks after the program. Enhanced empathic interaction and parental acceptance level through filial play therapy training was maintained 8 weeks after the training. Eight weeks after the training, child's behavior problems were significantly reduced in comparison to immediately after the training.
The International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities(IALA) model course recommends specific aspects of basic curriculums for Vessel Traffic Services(VTS) operator education such as modules, course hours, contents, etc. Most domestic training programs for newly appointed VTS operators comply with such recommendations. The objective of this study is to determine whether such modules for VTS operator training recommended by the current IALA model course correspond to the actual opinions of VTS operators who are currently working in the field. To this end, the relative importance of basic modules for vessel traffic services operator training was analyzed using the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) method. A questionnaire was designed to include 8 modules recommended by the IALA model course, and the survey results of 52 individuals working at 5 VTS centers were analyzed. The result showed that, unlike the assumption by the IALA, domestic VTS operators viewed Nautical Knowledge as the most important modules, followed by Emergency Situations, Traffic Management, Language, Equipment, VHF Radio, Communication Co-ordination, and Personal Attributes, in that order.
This study aims to determine the changes in health beliefs and practices of dental hygienists on infection control after having received special training on that subject. The study population consisted of dental hygienists working at the dental institutions located in Seoul and Gyeonggi areas. The intervention group and the control group each had randomly assigned 26 dental hygienists. The intervention group received training courses on infection control once a week for 3 hours, for a total of 4 training sessions. We used a survey tool to find the changes between the two groups regarding their health beliefs and practices on infection control measures. The survey was conducted prior to the training sessions, 3 months and 2 weeks after the training. The study results revealed statistically significant increases in perceived sensitivity, perceived seriousness, and perceived benefits after the training courses in the intervention group (p<0.05). A statistically significant decrease in perceived barriers was also noted in the intervention group (p<0.05). Additionally, there was a statistically significant increase in the practice of infection control in the intervention group as compared to the control group (p<0.05). Therefore, we conclude that infection control training is crucial in bringing about positive changes to the health beliefs of dental hygienists, and a structured system is necessary for continuous infection management along with training in order to improve infection control practices.
In most child-care facilities, homeroom teachers take the responsibilities for safety education, which has been conducted in class hours on a regular basis. It was found that most homeroom teachers are lacking in teacher training opportunities, and the younger they are, the less training experience they get. Teachers with fewer teaching careers had a greater interest in safety education and training courses. In addition, homeroom teachers have been utilizing monthly toddler magazines as a method to acquire knowledges for safety education and prevention of safety accidents. The safety accidents which have most frequently occurred in care-care facilities turned out to be stumble and tear, and infants aged 3 years or younger were found to be easily exposed to the safety accidents mainly due to the frolic between peers during the free-choice activity time. The homeroom teachers recognized only traffic safety education among the range of safety training courses, which varied depending on teaching career such as traffic safety education and indoor/outdoor safety environment training, etc. In addition, it turned out that the safety training methods were limited to the utilization of discussion techniques, role-playing, description and demonstration.
This study attempts to investigate that the training of pitch manipulation would help Korean speakers reduce the intonation errors based on the review of many previous studies on Korean speakers' phonetic realization of intonation. The previous studies have indicated that Korean speakers have problems with pitch manipulation in their production of English word stress, sentence stress, and eventually intonation. To train Korean speakers phonetically realize English pitch patterns, a blended learning module was operated for two weeks: face-to-face instruction for six hours and e-learning instruction for three hours in total. This module was designed to help Korean speakers realize pitch as a distinctive phoneme. An acoustic assessment on five Korean female English speakers shows that the training of pitch manipulation helps Korean English speakers reduce the intonation errors indicated in the previous studies reviewed.
The goal of this paper is to provide the specific forecasting steps and to explain how to design the forecasting architecture and training data sets to forecast very short-term wind power when the numerical weather prediction (NWP) is unavailable, and when the sampling periods of the wind power and training data are different. We forecast the very short-term wind power every 15 minutes starting two hours after receiving the most recent measurements up to 40 hours for a total of 38 hours, without using the NWP data but using the historical weather data. Generally, the NWP works as a predictor and can be converted to wind power forecasts through machine learning-based forecasting algorithms. Without the NWP, we can still build the predictor by shifting the historical weather data and apply the machine learning-based algorithms to the shifted weather data. In this process, the sampling intervals of the weather and wind power data are unified. To verify our approaches, we participated in the 2017 wind power forecasting competition held by the European Energy Market conference and ranked sixth. We have shown that the wind power can be accurately forecasted through the data shifting although the NWP is unavailable.
