  • This paper presents a Rotem's methodology for the establishment of train operation plan in Railway system. Train operation plan is the key prior plan to proceed the design of the civil and E&M relevant subsystem. But, due to the limitation of the environmental and project condition, common consensus to the key factors which make up the operation plan have not been accomplished. So, as a result of this comparative review for the general approaching method of train operation plan and application status of the major key factors being performed by Rotem, we will get the opportunities to improve the accuracy of the train operation plan.

  • In the train schedule plan corresponds to a master plan for transport services. This service plan must be constructed to minimize operational cost or maximize revenue considering transportation demands and resource capacities in the operation company, and it includes several sub-planning activities such as train operation frequency plan, train schedule plan, train capacity assignment plan, and rolling stock requirement plan. In this paper, we present profitability evaluation system for the current train schedule plan. The proposed system can be used for evaluating profitability by estimating train service revenue considering customer demands.

  • It is very difficult to find optimal train operation plan when analyzing the economic investment using traditional railroad travel demand estimation method. Train operation plan depends on travel demand and vice versa. To solve this problem, this study suggests a demand estimation method to address an optimal train operation scheme with the modal spilt using initial train operation plan and trip assignment.

  • In railway system, the transportation plan corresponds to master plan for transport services.   • In the railway system, transportation plan corresponds to a m aster plan for transport services. In these sub- planning processes, train can be con side red as a product for providing customer services, and customer demands and operational advantages must be considered. In this paper, we present an effect estimation system for the train capacity pattern in a train schedule, and the effect of capacity pattern can be expressed as minimum spilled demand, minimum train service cost, and maximum train revenue or profit.

  • 철도운영기관은 수송수요예측과 열차차량의 수송능력을 토대로 수송계획을 세우고 이에 따른 열차운행계획을 수립한다. 열차운행계획을 통해 열차 운행간격이 조정되어 열차운행시간표(열차다이아)가 작성되고, 열차운행에 사용되는 열차의 차량운영계획이 수립된다. 열차운영기관에서는 열차 운영관리의 효율성을 높이기 위해 다이아에 편성되어진 열차들의 승무인원을 판단하고 배치하는 승무일정계획을 수립해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 승무일정계획 문제인 승무다이아 작성단계에 제약조건을 만족하는 이웃해 탐색기법을 적용하여 승무 계획의 효율적 관리가 가능하도록 하는 방법론을 제시한다. 연구에서 제시한 방법론에 의해 생성된 승무 다이아는 실제 운영하는 열차시간표를 대상으로 기존 승무다이아와 결과 값을 비교하여 제시된 방법론의 효율성을 검증하였다.

Discrete event simulation of Maglev transport considering traffic waves

  • A magnetically levitated vehicle (Maglev) system is under commercialization as a new transportation system in Korea. The Maglev is operated by an unmanned automatic control system. Therefore, the plan of train operation should be carefully established and validated in advance. In general, when making a train operation plan, statistically predicted traffic data is used. However, a traffic wave often occurs in real train service, and demand-driven simulation technology is required to review a train operation plan and service quality considering traffic waves. We propose a method and model to simulate Maglev operation considering continuous demand changes. For this purpose, we employed a discrete event model that is suitable for modeling the behavior of railway passenger transportation. We modeled the system hierarchically using discrete event system specification (DEVS) formalism. In addition, through implementation and an experiment using the DEVSim++ simulation environment, we tested the feasibility of the proposed model. Our experimental results also verified that our demand-driven simulation technology can be used for a priori review of train operation plans and strategies.

개선된 알고리즘에 의한 지하철 운행간격 제어 (Train Regulation by the Advanced Algorithm for Subway)

  • Even if the train of subway starts in a certain interval from the origin according to the operation plan. as the number of passenger gets increased during operation. the boarding and getting-off time will increase, and the temporary breakdown happens to the system of train during operation, causing the delay from the operation plan. this leads to the vicious circle of train operation. making the interval of train operation irregular in downtown especially. To solve this problem, we propose the method of advanced algorithm by the actual data relating to the train operation including operation time required between stations, distance between stations. capability of train, and the dwelling time, location and distance between the preceding train and next one. The central train control system adjusts the dwelling time at each station in order to recover the delayed time, and increase the operation speed at the each station. As control algorithm is applied the dwelling time and to increase the speed, the train maintains certain interval after certain amount of time passes.

  • The purposes of this primary study are the selection of rail station and train operation management techniques for express-rail operation service at the convectional railway electrification. For these analyses, we used the KNR statistics and KROIS data of rail stations and train users by rail line. Therefore, we chose the important stations for express-rail operation of Kyongbu conventional rail line (esp. Seoul-Jochiwon section) through the rail transportation demand. and then, suggested primary operational management plan thorough the effects analyses of decreasing total travel time and increasing transportation demand by train speed-up. This study has some bounds and limits for proceeding, as it does, we excluded as followings: the conditionals of fate system, headways and train diagram, economic/financial analysis and technological assessment, and other railway technological infrastructures and a certain railcar specification, etc. . We propose to enlarge this study into a feasibility study of express or skip-stop operation service and compatible vehicle system decision considering with the best possible investment rail line, furthermore. in front of Kyongbu (Seoul-Busan) high-speed rail open in 2004, we have to try to progress the efficiencies of railway operation applying various train operation management plan.

  • The KTX, first Korean Highspeed train from Seoul to Busan, is scheduled to begin its passenger service in 2004, with improvement of existing railroad between Daegu and Busan and Honam region. This paper aims to suggest the best train operation plan and detailed diagram pattern so that the KTX could work effectively as much as possible. I suggest for instance, connecting direct train and local train, hub stations plan, multi-destination train, and improvement of fare system.
