  • Traffic-related environmental factors (TREF) are a major problem in developed countries, leading to increased atopic sensitivity, allergy symptoms, and diseases. This study shows an association between traffic-related pollutants, distance of road and gas station from the children's daycare center, and allergy symptoms. Data was obtained from the 2018 survey, an ongoing allergic diseases prevalence survey for children aged 4-7 (n=1175). This survey considered 36 public daycare centers, across 6 districts in Seoul. Allergic symptoms were defined as the presence of at least 1 or more allergic diseases (International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC)). TREF was derived from the distance to the nearest main roads and gas stations. Geographic data processing and variable computation were conducted using ArcGIS version 10.2. The odds ratios for allergy symptoms increased by 1.189 (1.235-2.679) times with decreasing distance to main roads and by 1.846 (1.176-2.896) times with decreasing distance to a gas station. This study concludes that main roads and gas-stations near children's daycare centers are related to the allergy symptoms in children.

  • Information and communication technology (ICT) is a promising solution for mitigating road traffic congestion. ICT allows road users and vehicles to be managed based on real-time road status information. In Tanzania, traffic congestion causes losses of TZS 655 billion per year. The main objective of this study was to develop an optimal approach for integrating real-time road information (RRI) to mitigate traffic congestion. Our research survey focused on three cities that are highly affected by traffic congestion, i.e., Arusha, Mwanza, and Dar es Salaam. The results showed that ICT is not yet utilized fully to solve road traffic congestion. Thus, we established a possible approach for Tanzania based on an analysis of road traffic data provided by organizations responsible for road traffic management and road users. Furthermore, we evaluated the available road information management techniques to test their suitability for use in Tanzania. Using the floating car data technique, fuzzy logic was implemented for real-time traffic level detection and decision making. Based on this solution, we propose a RRI system architecture, which considers the effective utilization of readily available communication technology in Tanzania.

  • Based on the results of the internet service survey, the traffic demand forecasts of the AO/DI internet service and N-ISDN service have been performed for each channel(B-channel and D-channel). These traffic forecasts can be used as useful input data for investigating packet processing capacity of the TDX-10A switching system and suggesting guideline for capacity increasement.

  • In this paper, we survey traffic control issues for the B-ISDN based on the ATM. We first investigate traffic descriptors to represent the characteristics of various ATM traffics in a standardized form. Also, we examine key issues related to the connection admission control, usage parameter control, network parameter control, priority control, and congestion control.

  • As a part of acoustical design, it is often necessary to quantify aspects of an existing environment and to predict the result of adding an acoustical treatment. The most common sources of exterior noise, also termed as environmental noise,(or community noise) are traffic noise, air craft noise, industrial noise, etc. Transportation(air, road, and rail)noise is the dominant and most common source of noise exposure in residential neighborhoods, and the annoyance is its most consequential effect. The road traffic noise becomes aggravated due to the rapid increase of vehicles. It has a great effect on the dwelling environment. Therefore we investigate the characteristics and sources of the road traffic noise through grasping the status of the road traffic noise. In the present study, preceding studies investigated the noise level of urban areas in Seoul were reviewed and the noise level of urban areas in Seoul was measured at first, fifth, tenth, and nineteenth floor for two days of weekdays and two days of weekend.

  • This study aims to seize the differences in drivers' attitudes and to speculate about the attitudes which may be causally related to traffic accidents based on data collected from group survey questionnaire in the four countries. The questionnaire was composed of 9 problem areas and prepared in Japanese English and Korean languages. The survey was conducted in Japan Canada U.S.A and Korea in 1987 The present study analysed the driver's attitudes toward behaviour of pedestrians traffic signal and causes of traffic accidents. The main results are :(1) The order of high percentage of those who cited the pedestrians as major cause of accidents was Korea Japan, Canada and U,S,A This markes the very high number of accidents involving pedestrians in Korea. (2) The percentage of who answered that most drivers started before the sign changed to Go sign at an intersection were higher in Japan and Korea than in U.S.A (3) Regarding the caues of accidents if the drivers were to meet with an accident the percentage of responses attributing faults to themselves for the accident was very high in Japan. Korea came next. In contrast the percentage of responses attributing faults to others is higher in Canada and U.S.A than Japan and Korea.

  • This paper attempts to find an improved organizational structure for operating the traffic safety facilities. Currently, police is in charge of the facilities while the local government is in charge of its budget. By doing so, many inefficiencies and problems occur in these things. A delphi technique is used to survey these inefficiencies. Problems, and improved role and organization by three expert groups in local government, police and university The survey results are analyzed by each expert group as well as by the total group. The multidimensional scaling technique is also used. The most preferable answer is to newly establish a traffic experts' agency under the local government. The second preferable answer is to set the current traffic police under the control of the local government.

  • In approaching sea area of Busan harbour, there are many traffic vessels and external forces such as strong seasonal wind and lateral flow are existed. Since the area caused the risk of navigation and ship operators feel hard to enter/depart on Busan port, we carried our the evaluation of traffic risk and propriety at Busan no.1 fairway. In order to assess the safety in the fairway, we analyzed ship's traffic stream based on the marine traffic survey and evaluated the traffic safety of present Traffic Separation Schemes(TSS) and suggest TSS in the research using full mission ship-handling simulators. As a result, the suggested TSS has an effect on improving the traffic safety. In addition, this paper was to suggest the dredging area of depth of water, the passage of towing vessels and control of warships for preventing of maritime accidents in the Busan no.1 fairway.

  • A point based speed enforcement system(SES) has been widely used in roadways to reduce the operating speeds and potential traffic accidents. Recently, the needs for introudcing new SES using point-to-point speed measurement was presented, however, no practical guidelines or justification of the system was available. This study investigated the effectiveness of the current SES and introduction of the new SES through user interview survey method. Survey results showed that 33% of respondents were unsatisfactory to the current way of SES operation, which was 11% higher than satisfactory respondents, and about 70% of the respondents supported the introduction of point-to-point based SES operation. A majority of respondents preferred the straight roadway segment, bridge and tunnel, and curved roadway segment for a start application site with the segment length of 1-5 km long. Using these survey results, an introduction scheme was discussed in terms of legal bases, installation criteria, and operational guidelines.

  • Traffic information is closely related to our daily lives. Thanks to the development of portable electronic devices, we can get traffic information rather easily. In particular, Most of traffic informations are being provided through mobile apps due to the spread of smartphones. Accordingly, to improve usability is emerged significant challenge. Therefore, this paper perform comparative evaluation for four traffic mobile apps which is currently being offered in our country and draw user needs. Then we suggest direction of traffic information apps for the future. First, We summarized research trend on information visualization and techniques which is used to traffic mobile apps with introduction traffic mobile apps. We adopted heuristic evaluation technique which is suitable for evaluating visualization and drew evaluation elements for traffic information visualization. Then, We conducted a survey based on evaluation elements so we was able to give objectivity to evaluation of information visualization which was could subjective. Based on the results we could derive results of evaluation of visualization for four traffic mobile apps. We expect that the results of this study will be contributed to develop of traffic information visualization services.
