Numerous research has been conducted using internet search data since the mid-2000s. For example, Google Inc. developed a service predicting influenza patterns using the internet search data. The main objective of this study is to prove the hypothesis that highway traffic indices are similar to the internet search patterns. In order to achieve this objective, a model to predict the number of vehicles entering the expressway and space-mean speed was developed and the goodness-of-fit of the model was assessed. The results revealed several findings. First, it was shown that the Google search traffic was a good predictor for the TCS entering traffic volume model at sites with frequent commute trips, and it had a negative correlation with the TCS entering traffic volume. Second, the Naver search traffic was utilized for the TCS entering traffic volume model at sites with numerous recreational trips, and it was positively correlated with the TCS entering traffic volume. Third, it was uncovered that the VDS speed had a negative relationship with the search traffic on the time series diagram. Lastly, it was concluded that the transfer function noise time series model showed the better goodness-of-fit compared to the other time series model. It is expected that "Big Data" from the internet search data can be extensively applied in the transportation field if the sources of search traffic, time difference and aggregation units are explored in the follow-up studies.

This study shows how to estimate AADT(Annual Average Daily Traffic) on temporary count data using new grouping method. This study deals with clustering permanent traffic counts using monthly adjustment factor, daily adjustment factor and a percentage of hourly volume. This study uses a percentage of hourly volume comparing with other studies. Cluster analysis is used and 5 groups is suitable. First, make average of monthly adjustment factor, average of daily adjustment factor, a percentage of hourly volume for each group. Next estimate AADT using 24 hour volume(not holiday) and two adjustment factors. Goodness of fit test is used to find what groups are applicable. MAPE(Mean Absolute Percentage Error) is 8.7% in this method. It is under 1.5% comparing with other method(using adjustment factors in same section). This method is better than other studies because it can apply all temporary counts data.
VDF(volume-delay function) is one of the most important factor to improve the reliability of traffic demand estimation because it is for estimation of link travel time based on the traffic volume variation. Because VDF of link except for freeway is applied as the parameter of BPR(bureau of public road) of U.S., it causes to deteriorate the accuracy of traffic demand estimation. The purpose of this paper is to establish new parameter of VDF based on the real-surveyed traffic data in order to improve the problem of the existing VDF. We suggest the reclassification of road hierarchy, the approach of traffic survey, the estimating method of VDF parameter, and the improvements of new VDF application. The new VDF allows us to estimate more realistic traffic situation in parts of demand, travel time and path between origin-destination.

In reflection of road expansion and increasing use rates, interest has blossomed in predicting driving environment. In addition, a gigantic scale of big data is applied to almost every area around the world. Recently, technology development is being promoted in the area of road traffic particularly for traffic information service and analysis system in utilization of big data. This study examines actual cases of road management systems and road information analysis technologies, home and abroad. Based on the result, the limitations of existing technologies and road management systems are analyzed. In this study, a development direction and expected effort of the prediction of road information are presented. This study also examines regression analysis about relationship between guide name and traffic volume. According to the development of driving environment prediction platform, it will be possible to serve more reliable road information and also it will make safe and smart road infrastructures.

As the result of the study shows, Round Robin Algorithm allows servers to ensure definite traffic distribution, unless incoming data loads differ much. Although error levels are high in some cases, they were eventually alleviated by repeated tests for a long period of time. The study uses two software packages (Packet Capture and Round Robin Test Package) to check packet volume from Virtual Network Structure (data generator, virtual server, Server 1, 2, 3), and finds out traffic distribution toward Server 1, 2, and 3. The functions of implemented Round Robin Load Balancing Monitoring System include round robin testing, system monitoring, and graphical indication of data transmission and packet volume.
Recently, the traffic volume of mobile communications increases rapidly and the small-cell is one of the solutions using two offload schemes, i.e., local IP access (LIPA) and selected IP traffic offload (SIPTO), to reduce the end-to-end delay and amount of mobile data traffic in the core network (CN). However, 3GPP describes the concept of LIPA and SIPTO and there is no decision algorithm to decide the path from source nodes (SNs) to destination nodes (DNs). Therefore, this paper proposes a dynamic mobile data traffic offload scheme using small-cells to decide the path based on the SN and DN, i.e., macro user equipment, small-cell user equipment (SUE), and multimedia server, and type of the mobile data traffic for the real-time and non-real-time. Through analytical models, it is shown that the proposed offload scheme outperforms the conventional small-cell network in terms of the delay of end-to-end mobile data communications and probability of the mobile data traffic in the CN for the heterogeneous networks.
This paper suggests the set-up plan of the assessment scope in road noise considering road characteristics with the prediction model of road noise. The RLS90 prediction model with some assumptions is used to establish the assessment scope of road noise. The main contents of the applied assumptions are smooth drive of cars, flat region, location of all noise sources in one lane, drive in design speed, and set-up of assessment scope according to traffic volume and car speed. The information of traffic volume to predict road noise is obtained by the distribution of small cars and full-sized cars in road. In this study, the total traffic volume in road is computed by adding the number of small cars to the conversion number of small cars, which means the number of small cars making the same noise as one full-sized car. The prediction result of road noise with the influence factor of traffic volume, car speed, distance between road and receiver is presented. The resultant assessment scope of road noise is obtained by combining road noise prediction data with the set-up standard of road noise assessment scope.
This paper discusses operational technique and effectiveness of Variable Speed Limits system that is implemented to control the traffic-flow on the Naebu Expressway. As the first step of the analysis, traffic data collected from vehicle detectors are corrected and smoothed. Applying a pattern analysis technique to the traffic data, the weekday traffic is classified into four different groups, and median of each group is calculated. Using three state variables, i.e., diverted traffic volume, average density and average speed, the conditions of roadway segments are determined. Computational outputs resulted from the application of the proposed model to the scenarios show that implementation of Variable Speed Limits system improved both safety and efficiency of the expressway. For the operational strategy, this paper also presents the change rate of the speed limit, and the effective duration of the speed limit according to the entering traffic volume.

It may be reasonable to consider density per unit area over time rather than analyze traffic volume, which is simply the traffic volume per unit of time, in assessing the maritime traffic congestion of a certain area. This study contributes to the standardization of maritime traffic congestion assessment methods for the maritime traffic safety diagnosis institute while seeking a new method to minimize evaluation error due to converted traffic volume per ship tonnage level. To solve this problem, a method to evaluate maritime traffic congestion by comparing the area occupied by a vessel with the area of its route using vessel identification data from the Automatic Identification System (AIS) has been proposed. In this new model, it is possible to use actual data due to the development of information and communication technology, reducing conversion error while allowing for the evaluation of maritime traffic congestion by route.
The collective of highly reliable traffic data is necessary for traffic signal control. This study is to test application of RTMS sensor to traffic signal control. In order to find out the possibility of its application th traffic signal control, 5 types of experiments were performed. The major findings are as follows ; -The detection are a has been changing according to degree and gain. -At the results of experiments for interference are a measure, Degree 60 is stable condition. -At the results of reliability test for volume and speed. the error rate decreases as speed increases and that of Zone 1 is lower than that of Zone 3. -Two modes are set up for reliability test of traffic volume. It founds that the detection reliability of the stopped vehicles are higher than that of the passing vehicles at sidefire-intersection mode. It founds that the results are vice-versa at sidefire-highway mode. Conclusively, this sensor cannot directly apply to colection of traffic data for traffic signal control. However, this sensor can be substituted for a loop detector which is used popularly for signal control, and freeway traffic control if above faults are made up.
